Really really really (profanity) wucky marketing where 25/8 is considered to be "Quick As"………………..

    • +1

      As "Quick as" dial up.

      • +2

The fastest "dial up" was 56kbps, or 0.056Mbps. You might be thinking of ADSL2, where the average speed was 12Mbps (many people got less), and maximum speed was 24/1 Mbps if you lived within 100m or so of the exchange or ADSL2 node.

Nobody had 8Mbps upload or higher unless you were a business or educational institution, and paid thousands of dollars a year for a leased line or had a link via microwave dish.

When NBN was installed at my house, even at 12/1, it was an improvement over the 8Mbps I was getting with ADSL2. And cheaper too, as I didn't have to pay $30/month for the landline plus $30/month to the cheapest Internet Service Provider.

    • Honestly what are you negging about?

Is it cheap for 25/8? Are there issues with Amaysim's service? If yes and no respectively then it's a deal, and the fact you wouldn't personally buy it has absolutely no relevance.

25/8 would be fine for my household and I'll consider jumping on this depending on feedback about Amaysim's service to WA. It'll be a good way to force me to transition from a provider I'm paying way too much to.

      • Is it cheap for 25/8?

Only for the first two months of the introductory period.

The cheapest 25/10 plan listed on OzBargain is $53.90/month ongoing price, which makes the ongoing Amaysim price of $70/month look horrible.

And that $53.90/month plan has free static IP if you can justify a need for it.

        • Churn after 2 months?

    • marketing where 25/8 is considered to be "Quick As"

Thats as fast as my dads internet can be on his fttn service at Noosa.

      • Not uncommon.

  • option to opt out cgnat?

    • amaysim don't use CG-NAT for nbn.

      • so will get a dynamic ip address?

        • Yeah dynamic IP.

I thought 25/8 speed plans had been grandfathered and weren't a current product anymore.

Seeing that this price reverts to $70 a month after 6 months is terrible value. I hope there are not many people already paying this. It just gives one the feeling that they are being exploited because they may not know what they are actually getting.

Also, a 2 month promo period? Not worth the effort.

    • Especially considering soon I'll be paying $80 pm for their 750/50 plan.

    • I thought 25/8 speed plans had been grandfathered and weren't a current product anymore.

Not grandfathered. For example, Superloop are still offering "NBN Everyday Internet 25/10". But even worse value at $72/month after the introductory offer.

    • Thats the max speed some people can get .. like my dads fttn service.

And to be honest, as fast as he needs for his use.

    • For many like me stuck on FTTN, its the max that we can currently get so don't discount a large number of people who cannot get faster speeds until the FTTP upgrade is rolled out nation wide.
The prices of the lower speed plans are a rip off in pricing compared to the larger plans and feels like it is subsidising those on the larger plans :(

    • 25/10 hasn't been grandfathered. You can still get 12/1.

  • Their regular prices are insane.

    $30/month “introductory 2-month offer” for 25/8.
    Regular price $70/month 🚩😤🤯
