nbn/Opticomm 25/10 $53.90/Month Ongoing ($0 Static IP on Request) | Optional $1.95/Month Home Phone & $19.95 Setup @ IT'S FUBAR

360

We're back with a FY25 ongoing deal for our low speed NBN plan which has been very popular with the OzBargain community. These are particularly appealing to users with low internet demands, yet are still very capable of running all your typical streaming services without buffering if you're only watching on a single device. This financial year we're also launching our bolt-on home-phone service which has been in pilot for a while.

While a few of our competitors are offering 25mbps services around the ~$50 p/m mark, most of them are for a limited period (e.g. 3-6 months), which sets us apart. No need for the calendar reminder to move away from your current provider only to lose all your savings when you accidentally roll past the promotional period 🥲.

Plan Price
NBN/Opticomm 25/10 $53.90 ongoing
PAYG Home Phone $1.95 ongoing*

Our 25mbit plans are $53.90 p/m ongoing until our next wholesale price changes which is typically at the start of each financial year.

Our PAYG Home Phone service bolts onto any of our NBN plans for an additional $1.95 per month and is designed to be used with an ATA or modem/router with an inbuilt ATA (which is not locked to a current carrier!). There is a $19.95 setup fee which includes a CAT-A port from another provider or establishment of a new number as there is still a lot of manual support work required with getting these services online. Outbound call rates are available on our website here.

We also offer a static IP address on our services on request at no extra charge - you'll just need to confirm with us how you plan to use it as we had an influx of customers requesting a static address without knowing what it is.

Services are pre-paid month-to-month. Complete our sign up form, we'll process your order and send you a pro-rated invoice and activate your service same day Monday to Friday. We're a small family owned business down in Geelong aiming to provide kickass, on-shore customer service.

We can also offer a Netcomm NF18MESH preconfigured modem shipped to your door for $99 with our plans. Just let us know you need a modem in your order form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a modem/router that was provided by XYZ provider?
Typically, yes. Most models provided by Optus, Telstra, Belong, Vodafone, Aussie Broadband etc can be used with our services without issue, unless you require a home phone service - as in many cases SIP settings are locked down and cannot be tweaked. You may need to tweak some settings.

Will I need to change settings on my modem/router to get online?
We use IPoE/DHCP for our NBN services which is often referred to as "auto configuration". Opticomm unfortunately is via PPPoE and requires manual configuration. If you're an NBN customer, as long as you're coming over from another provider using IPoE/DHCP, you won't need to touch a thing. Common carriers who don't need reconfiguration include: Telstra, Aussie Broadband, Belong, Optus, Superloop, and some Vodafone services.

How quickly can you get me online?
Typically, same day Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm AEST unless there's an issue with connecting your address. Once you apply with us, we sanity check your order and approve it. You are then issued a pro-rated invoice by our system. Once this invoice is paid, our provisioning systems will kick off your NBN order within the hour. We're a pre-paid service - so it's important you pay your invoice as soon as it comes in if you're expecting to get connected quickly. Opticomm services may not always be same day as these take longer to provision and are less automated due to the lower volume of services we deal with on their network.

Can I schedule a connection in the future?
Yes, our order forms contain a box where you can request your preferred activation date.

How do I go about moving over with a Home Phone?
First, confirm you have an unlocked modem and are capable of adjusting the SIP settings on your device. If so, sign up for our NBN/Opticomm plan and specify that you have a home phone service. It's important to note we need to take over the home phone service before we activate your internet as this is the safest way to guarantee you do not lose your number. Porting can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to complete, so we suggest giving plenty of notice to us. Once your port date is locked in and the number is in our control, we will move your NBN service over to us.

25/10 over $10 @ ~50 a month. Man, we truly stuffed the NBN hey.

    • Agree. How did cost of the same speeds 10 yrs ago get more expensive over time?

      • +2

I mean by this logic I should still be buying a packet of tim-tams at the supermarket for $2 like I could in 2012 :)

Jokes aside, much of the cost of provide internet service isn't necessarily the amount of speed provided, it's the cost of getting access to the infrastructure that connects to your home. That (in itself) has a baseline "last mile" cost. Once the connectivity is established you'll note the cost of increasing speed drops away massively above 50/20.

Unfortunately inflation hits the cost of accessing the infrastructure, not really the speed itself - if that makes sense!

        • +6

I understand the point you're trying to make and I wasn't pointing fingers at you specifically. It's more of a systemic issue in how we've handled connectivity in Australia and the pricing available here is a direct result.

Tim Tam analogy doesn't really work. Tim Tams were $3.5-$4 in 2012 and are $6 but regularly go on sale for $3, so same price? However, Tim Tams are dodgy with the speciality flavours as they contain 1 or 2 less than original but cost more.

          • +5

@rainbowunicorn: Hahaha the Tim Tam comment was just a general joke about inflation. But I do remember being able to get them at $2 a pack once upon a time…

I know you're not pointing fingers - I was just providing some contexts on the last mile costs which have only increased with inflation over the years. Bandwidth is getting cheaper, but the costs of accessing last mile have grown with inflation, and NBN's desire to recoup their investments into fiber (which ultimately we should have done 20 years ago when it would have cost us way less!)

  • why is it fubar?

  • +2

I've been with IT'S FUBAR for a bit under a year and the service has been great with excellent communication.

    • same, and have avoided the hassle of switching providers every x months. I could save a few dollars here or there by switching, but if you miss the right disconnection date, then next month is full price and you end up loosing too much. This is easier.

      • -2

you end up loosing too much

you prefer to be tight ?

  • +4

FUBAR have been great for the 10 or so clients I have brought over to them. The use of IPoE auth means 0 modem reconfig when they switch from the big telcos such as Optus, Telstra, Voda, Aussie BB and Leaptel. Makes the switch seamless. They are also one of the only "Budget" providers in this price range that have a POP in Perth and other states, Great for people living anywhere other than Sydney/Melb. Highly recommend them. Thanks for all your assistance over the last few months.

    • Most welcome! Thanks for the support :)

  • Hey Fubar(nator), I'm keen to look at this with a deeper eye. I'm currently on AussieBroadband 25/10 for $79. What's the total cost of me moving (as I'm on Opticomm)? Do i still ahve to pay the rediculous amount to move providers?

    • +1

Assuming you're on a month to month plan it shouldn't really cost you anything other than a bit of time to fill out our forms and pay the invoice to get online. Our dad jokes might also grate on you after a while, so I'd consider that a "cost" to your sanity as well ;)

Being Opticomm, you will need to be prepared to reconfigure your modem though - Opticomm services aren't zero touch to get online sadly.

  • quick question
I want to transfer my mum's connection from superloop, she's getting fttb
i' m given 2 options, do i select the "in use" option? is an appointment required for opticomm or is it all automatic?

    In Use

    • Our online SQ only checks against NBN, not Opticomm - but based on the in-use line I'd say your mum's on NBN not Opticomm :)

The "in use" line indicates there's currently an active service on that line - so that'll be the one you want to pick. Unfortunately to swap your address it needs an NBN technician appointment to jumper your line over. Looks like the address is on very old infrastructure. If you email us or DM me I'll try look into more specifics about why that is.

      • Thank you i’ll get in touch

  • +1

Moved my grandparents over to the 25/10 plan at the end of last year.

The service has been reliable, and 25mbit down is perfectly adequate for their needs.

  • +1

Been pretty happy with the service and have been using it since the last deal. Cheers 🧡

  • Commenting to follow up. I think I'll switch over, saves some hassle and above comments are positive. Good timing

  • Decent deal. It's frustrating that the lower speed nbn plans have been artifically made expensive to force users onto thje higher speed plans.

A lot of pensioners don't need 100Mbs+ plans.

Maybe we nee dto accept the "investment" of the nbn is lost and absorb the debt into the general Govt debt so nbn can cut the wholesale access charges.

    • have been artifically made expensive

      How so?

  • We also offer a static IP address

I thought IPV6 promised to provide enough addresses that every human on Earth could have several million. What happened to that dream?

    Do IPV6 static IPs exist?

    • +2

Most providers who supply/support IPV6 do so in a static or at least "sticky" manner. Unfortunately V6 has seen slow adoption, mostly due to the architectual considerations to make it work nicely with legacy devices. Additionally, as many sites and services havent been available previously on V6, providers didnt really have an incentive to prioritise implementation.

Australia had historically been slow on IPV6 but things have caught up in recent years. Check out: https://stats.labs.apnic.net/ipv6/

We're still not yet offering V6 to customers publicly as we've had other product development focuses with our customer portal and we're a small family business, but I plan to get this live for customers this quarter.

  • We have a small business in 4215. Currently with Telstra NBN with phone line coming from the Telstra Smart Modem 2. Mainly just receiving calls but at most make a few calls a day. What plan do you recommend? NBN doesn't need to be fast, just reliable

    • You sound like the exact customer we built our company around before starting to offer residential services! Our NBN services have primarily had the SMB market in mind from day one and there's no technical difference between our home phone and business voice services except that the home phone service is designed with voice integrated modems in mind. A lot of Telstra modems work jist fine with our internet, but they lock a lot of settings needed to have the phone lines work.

With that in mind the deal listed here would be perfect, but you might need to be prepared to get a new modem. We can supply one ready to go and ship it to you if preferred. It will have all the relevant settings in it for the lines to work as well.

  • I’m interested in this, but their name isn’t on the list of Opticomm providers.

    • Look for City Communications on their list who provide our wholesale access. If we continue gaining demand for these services over the next 6 to 12 months our volume should increase enough to deal directly with Opticomm. Demand just hasn't been there to date due to the limited areas Opticomm service. We actually only started offering Optiomm as some family we wanted to look after moved to an Opticomm address.

  • I entered my address which is on Fixed Wireless and it comes up with 6 NBN consumer options with different speeds. The higher speed plans sound unobtainable for my area on Fixed Wireless. Other providers have options like Fixed Wireless Standard & Fixed Wireless Plus. How do I know what I will get and how it compares?

    • We don't advertise the Fixed Wireless plans directly on the website or sign up form because of the fact that they often cause a lot of confusion and they make up a (relatively) small section of our customer base. You'll find the plans and prices listed in our CIS, but we offer Fixed Wireless Home Fast and Fixed Wireless Home Super Fast: https://www.itsfubar.com.au/legal/cis-nbn/

Drop us an email if you want with your address - the typical evening speeds vary quite a bit based on what NBN tower you're coming off (this is an NBN limit, not on our side).

  • Hi @fubarnator - As an existing customer, we received an invoice reflecting the increased monthly rate, which was issued without prior notice regarding the price increase.
Having reviewed your General Terms & Conditions and the Product Schedule, I was unable to identify provisions that permit a fee increase without prior notification.
Could you please clarify the specific clause or policy that authorizes the adjustment?

    • Hi Wolfy - an email was sent to all customers on 01/06/25 advising of the upcoming price changes. A popup was also on our website from this date during the last 30 days, as well as a notification on our client portal which is still live: https://my.itsfubar.com.au/news/view/4/changes-to-plans-and-…. Even our previous OzBargain post was updated on that date - so the price change was pretty hard to miss if I'm being honest. We went above and beyond to notify all clients.

      • And to answer the second part of your question, refer to clause 42a in the general terms and conditions - not that I enjoy needing to refer to these!

      • My order was placed before 01/06/25, but the service was activated afterward.
I use various ad and spam blockers on my browsers, which likely prevent pop-ups, and I have no reason to visit your client portal.
Until I saw the price change announced in this post, I had no reason or need to revisit your previous OzBargain listing, which I now see was updated on 01/06/25.

Honestly, I was unaware that your prices had changed or that the new pricing would be applied retroactively to existing customers.
Your website's landing page still states: "NBN Services starting at $49.95 per month" ( see https://ibb.co/4wJZGQB1 ).
Therefore, I find it difficult to agree with the claim that you "went above and beyond to notify all clients".

        • +2

I have replied to your DM and adjusted your invoice for this month down to $49.95. As a small business, we do everything we can to do right by our customers - and this gives you this full month at your expected price to seek an alternative provider if that's the approach you'd like to take.

          • @fubarnator: Thank you for providing clarification on the matter (especially at this time of day).

        • You're welcome. Thanks for reaching out - and again apologies you weren't captured in the list of notified customers due to the outstanding order.

  • I have been wanting to change providers and have been keeping my eye on fubar. I am looking for internet and home phone, when I seen the title "$1.95/Month Home Phone" I thought now is the time until I read the cost of the calls on top of this.
I was hoping for a deal more like the crazytel Craycray Plan with local, national and mobiles included for $8.
Until fubar has reasonable home phone I will stay where I am.

    • why don't you just swap to Crazytel for your number then you can move to any internet provider whenever you want?

      • Yes of course this is an option but would have liked to got all in one (just a personal preference) current provider is not too bad, quite reliable.

  • This looks to be what my 88 year old dad should be on. He was telling me yesterday that his 25 speed service from Aussie Broadband has gone to $80 a month and for me to look for a better deal. All deals i could find were intro ones then about what hes paying now.

25 is about the max speed on fttn at Noosa and honestly for his use is fine anyway .. not much streaming, just internet and email stuff.

Only issue is he wouldnt be able to change any modem things and would need me when i visit (hes noosa i am gold coast)
