So When Is The nbn FTTP and HFC Speed Upgrade Kicking in?

I'm with "More" through Commbank Yello rewards on a 250/50 plan and just ran a speed test expecting to see 750 down this morning but haven't seen a speed boost yet. Is this going to be rolled out in stages or has someone at NBN co just not pushed the big red speed boost button yet?

Edit after checking their (More's) website: Delays expected for nbn®orders
nbn® system enhancements are scheduled for 13/09/2025-15/09/2025. Orders will resume once the upgrade is complete.

        • Check what it says in your more account, I don't think 100/40 is getting upgraded.

          • @CodeXD: 100% it is, first email I received from them on 26/8.

            Speed Tier - Present - September 2025
            Fast Plus - 100/40Mbps - 500/50Mbps

            • @blorx: That's awesome.

If it has updated when you log in to your more account, turn off nbn box and router, wait 15 mins and turn it back it. Should be on new speed afterwards.

              • @CodeXD: Plan says "Fast Max (nbn® speed tier 500/50mbps)" 🙂
Will try it all out later tonight.

            • @blorx: Maybe it’s us 100/40 groupings that are delayed? 100/20 seemed to be automatic and over the weekend, but our plans could be getting phased out..? I suspect they have to manually migrate all accounts to 100/20 then push us automatically to 500/50 from there.

              • @OGGazelle: Still no upgrade yet. No message from More to say anything's happened either (not sure if I'm waiting on that or not).

    • I'm with More. Mine just got upgraded this morning 532/46 Mbps

    • Just spoke to Superloop, because the current plan (100/40) isn't listed as one that has a direct upgrade path from NBNco, "No upgrade will be applied". They offered me to select a new plan/signup.

Anyone know if the 30 day NBN cancel period they tout is legit?

  • -2

I'm with Leaptel and signed on with their 500/50 service, I contacted them today and they told me I wouldn't be receiving the update - pricks.

    • +2

      That is the update..?

    • I was also a bit confused, as i just signed up to their 500/50 plan.
But it is cheap at their current discount.

Thing is you can see that they had the upgrade for this price range but tagged on another $5.
      100/20 used to be $74.95
      500/50 now $79.95

  • Superloop here and plan shows as 1000/100 now. Have yet to do a speedtest though.

    • My Superloop 1000/100 is working since yesterday I guess

  • Update on Buddy. My plan was updated to 500/50 this morning but speed remained the same. Checked again now - DL has been upgrade but UL is still 20mbps.

    • And that's why I switched to Buddy! I reached out complaining my speed was still at 20mpbs. They told me to check a setting on my TP Link modem called "bandwidth control". And guess what, it was set to 20mbps. Disabled it and we now have 500/50!

Aussie BB HFC user (1000/50) here, I had to power cycle both my NTU & own router for the new upload speed (100 up) to kick in.

  • I'm with Superloop - FTTP 500/50, the new speed kicked in last night after 6 PM.

    • Do you see the updated speed also showing in your account? Nothing upgrade for me yet .

      • yeah, it shows up as current plan when I go into 'Change my plan' section in the Superloop app.
I did speedtest on the day and it showed the new speed.
Probably need to try power cycle your NTD and router.

        • Still showing the existing 250/25 for me - expecting upgrade to 750/50

Edit: OK got the upgraded speed. Wi-fi speed test showing ~400/40. Didn't have to reboot anything

          • @timhn: nice…might need to upgrade the router to get the full speed.

            • @zidd: It can. Plugged laptop straight to router and speed test was hovering ~774/47 , lol

  • Received an email from Tangerine saying upgraded. Meant to be on 500/50. Upload has doubled to about 44 mbps but download is still around 85 mpbs.

    • Did you try testing it with an ethernet cable?

I had the same result (upload went up, but download didn't) and it turned out my powerline adapter couldn't go higher than 100mbps due to old wiring.

      • Tried with Ethernet before it maxs out @ about 120. The Wi-Fi 6 router gets me about 110. Still nowhere near the promised 500. I restarted the NBN box as well as my router.

        • What router do you have?

          • @noz: It's one of the Netgear ones. But definitely Wi-Fi 6/7 compatible.

            • @Nickelback: Assuming you have FTTP, on your NBN NTD, what colour is the light for the UNI-D port that your router connects to?

              • @noz: You're right FTTP. The light is amber/orange.

                • @Nickelback: ok cool .. well you're negotiating at gig-e between router and NTD then, so that isn't the issue. Sounds like you're going to have to contact Tangerine unfortunately..!

                  • @noz: Thanks. Yeah I'll reach out to them tomorrow.

                    • @Nickelback: I am also with Tangerine and experiencing a similar issue (upload 40+ mbps download hardly exceed 100 mbps) would greatly appreciate you sharing the outcome. TIA mate.

                      • @baggiggsio11: check your Ethernet cable and ensure it is CAT 5e or 6 or above

  • Aussie Broadband: had to go into my account and change the plan manually. Was on 100/40, now on 250/100 with no change in monthly price.

People with older iPhones / iPads, you might see a max download speed of 100mbps because of their Wi-Fi NIC bottleneck, even though the theoretical speed is like 800.

My 2nd gen iPad pro only gets 100mbps download, but my PC on the same wifi now gets 260mbps

  • More Internet here. Rebooted the NBN modem around midday today to get the higher speeds. All ok now. 500/40 is sweet as. Ookla tested as 540/47.

  • Is this upgrade thing for fttp and above only? Not for fttn?

  • Aussie Broadband 250/25 (750/50) and still no upgrade as of yet. I've reset my NTD/Router several times in hopes that the new speeds kick in but not yet.

  • I tried this morning and it was still on my old speed. But after a quick reboot of my router/modem. It picked up the new speed.
So if you still don't have the new speed, try rebooting/power cycling your router/modem.
    Hopefully that should fix it.

I turn off NTD + router, waited 15 mins, turned it back on.

Finally on 500/50… or at least speedtest shows 370/50 so the old ZTE H268A is trying its best.

  • I can understand lower speed tiers, but what’s the point of 500, 750 Mbps speed tiers? Hard to tell any difference for most people. I think most people would rather get a discount on their current plan. The issue is the 25 and 50 Mbps plans are the most popular I think

    • I think most people would rather get a discount on their current plan

The speed boost is passed on from NBN Co so don't be confused by generous ISP

  • I got mine upgrade on 14 Sep, from 250 to 750, which is great.

  • I'm still waiting on mine… Internode taking their sweet time :(

  • With More. Management page shows the upgraded speed plan. Still hasn't taken effect.
EDIT: resetting NTD did nothing. Sad.

    • Same here with More

    • If you can see it in management page, turn off ntd and router, wait 5 mins and then turn it back on.

      Worked for me last night.

      • Didn't work for me. Checked management page again and I'm back to my original 100/40 plan!?

        • Not sure when more is upgrading 100/40.

I was on 100/20 and it worked for me once I rebooted it

          • @CodeXD: Finally got upgraded.*
It looks like there was a gap of about two days from when they silently upgraded my upload speeds to when the download speeds were upgraded too.

            • interestingly, the plan on the management page hasn’t changed yet.
            • @WhonderWy: Very weird, management page was the first thing that changed for me!

    • I'm with More. Mine just got upgraded this morning 532/46 Mbps.

    • With More. Management page shows old speed. Resetting did nothing.

  • Nothing still. Exetel.

    • Did you power cycle your router?

I'm with exetel and was upgraded pretty much as soon as it was promised.

Leaving them next month though, 6 months promo pricing coming to an end.

  • AussieBB FTTP. 1000/100. Didn't have to do anything to NTD or Router.

  • More. Still capped at around 90Mb.
Plan upgraded on the website, tried an NDT port reset on the site and restarted router, no luck.
Will restart the nbn box when i get home

  • 500Mbps upgrade went through on Buddy. Was only getting about 100Mbps so had to go into the app and kick my connection to get the full speed upgrade.

  • I see a lot of people are stuck under 100Mbps.

Make sure your equipment router/switches all support at least gigabit speeds. If you have a very old router/switch you will be limited by the slowest device. If your router/switch only have 100 Mbps ports then that will be your limiting factor.

Also sometimes old cables/bad cables will not negotiate to gigabit speeds and drop to 100Mbps. So if you are sure your router/switch supports gigabit speeds, try replace your WAN/LAN cable with better quality cables.

Some routers will have negotation lights which you can check or from your routers web interface.

I hope this post helps some of you.

  • With ABB, Lost my internet connection last night, has to restart the NBN box, and noticed speed is bumped from 100 to 500

  • Optus FTTP 100/20 to 500/45…still nothing
Did asked on chat yesterday, rep said may take 24/48 hrs from the 15/9 to upgrade to new speed

    • Same here. My app shows 680/43 Mbps now. Contacted chat agent and was told the NBN team is working on the activation notified through SMS once completed.

      • Still waiting for the SMS🤣

      • hows your upload speed any increase ?

        • No speed increase so far. I am also waiting for the SMS :)

  • I'm with more and got 750 after restart router yesterday.

  • Tangerine in Adelaide- the upload went to 50 a few days ago but still around 100 down. Restarted modem around noon today with no change. Did get an email from Tangerine at 10am stating
"Your nbn® plan’s speed has increased as part of our free speed upgrades*. "

will give another restart later and see what happens. I can see my plan as 500/50 in accout info, using eero 6+.

    • Any change to download speed? I'm with Tangerine as well, but got no email and no speed increase.

      • Download speed still around 100 this morning. Check online in your account to see the speed of your plan

  • Ok im in sydney With optus FTTP i was on the 240/22 plan now i should be on 680/43 plan as my app plan has updated and says this… now i noticed my upload speed has increased but my download speed has not… optus chat is no help… anyone else in this vote ?

    • My app says 500/45 since yesterday morning…but no change to actual speed as of 3 hrs ago

      • the speeds im getting at the moment is 290/47 hopfully itll kick in soon for us

    • +2

I'm with Optus too and on the same plan. No speed upgrade yet for me. Did you restart router and NBN connection box

      • ive reset everything a few times to check if any changes happen.. but only change for me is the upload speed im currently getting 290/47 , i would of thought it would be all in one go and a simple upgrade with a flick of a button

      • Now it's showing "updating your service" in the app..
        Doggy Optus

        • Guys, pls update when new speed is active. I don't know why Optus is taking this long while others can upgrade with little effort.

          • +1

            @Chhaava: Just got speed upgraded…. finally..woohoo

            • @jobargain: Great. Thanks for the update. I will check when i get back home. Did you get any sms from the NBN activation team?

              • @Chhaava: Nope..just noticed the internet dropped out. Restarted NBN modem and router… 💥

                • @jobargain: I restarted my modem and reconnected my NBN box. So speed improvement. Optus hasn't upgraded mine yet

  • Merged from 100 to 500 on iiNet

Anyone on iiNet has the upgrade come through? I’m still waiting for mine to kick in. Thanks

    • I'm with Leaptel and still waiting too

      • Login to the Leaptel portal on their website and kick your session. You may need to reboot your router after that.

        • But the email said I need to do no nothing. Why they lie?

          • @SpicyPeanut: Mine came through automatically. Doing this can give you the faster speeds sooner.

            • @Twix: kicked my session, rebooted router, speed got slower

              • @SpicyPeanut: Wired ethernet or Wi-Fi 5GHz?

                • +1

@Twix: Tried both, kicked/reboot x3, still <100mbps. Oh well. Thanks for the advice

                  • @SpicyPeanut: Check your router WAN port isn't limited to 100M. Is your router QoS setting off?

                    • @Twix: no limit on WAN port and QoS not on :( Any other ideas?

                      • @SpicyPeanut: Maybe delayed on nbn's end. Contact Leapel tech support.

    • +2

I'm not with TPG group anymore …

But did read somewhere, iiNet email saying - about a staggered upgrade - happening over a period of days up until the 19th.

If hasn't happened after 19th … Then certainly something wrong.

    • Southern phone upgraded two days ago , I'm looking forward to no buffering

      • Speed test says I'm still on 100. Online portal says 500. Did you have to do anything on your end? I rebooted router the other day, maybe I have to actually reboot the NBN box.

        • No , came through automatically

        • +1

Could be due to your router or the device that you ran the speed test.

My upgraded speed is 750/50. First, I've tested with the laptop's wifi and it was hovering around 300Mb download. Plug straight to ethernet port on the router and got ~759Mb

          • @timhn: Hey thanks for the tip. Got the speed now.

    • Yes, mine took place last Sunday. Did you get any notification from iiNet on your upgrade specifically? I received an email and text message last week confirming it would take place on 14 September.

After the upgrade, I didn't notice any speed increase. Speedtest was around 200mbps, same as before. Same result using the Asus router's built in speedtest. Thought the upgrade didn't take place until I connected a laptop directly to NTD and got 700mbps. Turns out my antivirus was affecting speedtest and the built in speedtest is unreliable.
