@KoalaTeaPuns: funny enough they said that to me last friday and saturday too, so i’m curious if they’ve actually issued the refund or if they’re just saying it to say it. Usually, refunds land in my account within 24 hours

    • +1

Anyone had any progress on their refund? Mine still showing as return started despite Auspost tracking showing it arrived back to them a week ago.

      • Jump on CS and try to accelerate it. If the tracking says it's back with them, I don't see why they wouldn't help out.

        • They've told me multiple times it's been 'issued for refund' but I've seen nothing.

First I was told they got it and I should have the money in a few days.
Then I was told it was going back to the U.S. and I should hear back in about a week.
Then I was told it was 30 days because it's from Amazon Haul.
And now I've just been told it's been issued (again) and the refund will be with me in a few days.

I'm at wits end and at the point where I may reach out to my bank and start disputing the transaction.

I'm concerned because all I've been promised at this point is that I will receive a refund of the difference when I buy and take receipt of a 9070 XT, but based on replies below it seems that this is also a white lie…

          • @Maloxis: Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

Early in the week when I called again, I was told again that someone would contact me in 24-48hrs.
Yet again that didn't happen, so I called back yesterday and spent half an hour waiting for someone to tell me that the refund will be sent in 24-48hrs -_-

I'm sending back the $2000 GPU that they told me to buy as a replacement, so I'll probably spend the next month chasing that refund up as well.

I'm really over Amazon after all of this.

            • @artless: I actually (!) got my Amazon credit back - I asked for this because it was quicker than the bank refund.

Ordered the 9070XT, we'll see what happens when I receive it and start reaching out to the c/s reps again.

If they go back on their word, I have photo proof that they committed to it and I'll go to my bank over it and dispute the transaction.

              • @Maloxis: I hope your result is different to mine!

I was just reading through the AmazonPrime subreddit and a lot of people have similar stories about being lied to like this.
There are mentions of emailing jeff@amazon.com and andy@amazon.com, so I'll give that a go before I start the return.

              • @Maloxis: How did you go?

                • @artless: Nothing. Same 24-48 hour story.

Sent an email to jeff at amazon, but will probably open a dispute with my bank at this point for the $322.

I’ll keep the new gpu though.

                  • @Maloxis: Damn. Keep us posted.
I'm sending the GPU back, it's literally been sitting in the box at thee front door since delivery because I had a feeling they'd stuff me around.

Still haven't got a refund for the first one, so I might just get charge backs started for both once I send it off.

                    • @artless: Came back and offered a $300 gift card - I may just take it, I don't think I'll get too much further with it hey.

  • -2

I feel much better seeing this deal up at 2 mins after posting and not pulling the trigger.

    • You missed out on a great deal, I got $500 for free and will buy a 9070XT with my refund and credit.
      Don't hesitate, just buy it.

  • +1

I also received the hairdryer, requested refund as gift cards and one day later my account got blocked… Returns and Refund Policy Violation wtf
and the worse is I cant place orders to spend my 1k in gift cards fml

    • Requesting refunds as gift cards is giga sus wtf?

    • Well that's weird. Your return rate might be higher and thats why your account got flagged.

    • still blocked?

      • +1

        yes

"After a thorough review, we have decided not to restore your full access to this account. You will not be able to place orders on our site."

        • @deadfish Damn !

I wonder if you hit a threshold - how many Amazon returns have you done ? Closer to 3 or to 33 ?

          • @Nom: exactly 3 (GMKtec K8 Plus, Philips 4400 Espresso Machine and mercusys router)

    • Yeah amazon has beeb dodgy tried to refund me in amazon credits aswell and wouldnt offer any compensation apart from 100$ towarda a new card

  • +2

Have to return the hairdryers for refund, offered nothing else than a refund. Said it was from 3rd party seller so could not offer a replacement

  • +7

Hello Ozbargain- sharing my success story with this deal. TL;DR I got $948.39 in Amazon balance + the refund.

Ignoring some of the comments in this post about best way to deal with customer rep, upon receiving my hairdryer I logged into Amazon support and asked them to give me a call. I spoke with customer rep A within 2 minutes. I was not pushy or rude or obnoxious.

Rep A after some time told me that he'd arrange a refund because a replacement was not possible because of a lack of stock. I told them that the black one was available. He had some back and forth about "Well it's Amazon US it's different. Well when I click the link it sends me to the 6800 fighter that's what you ordered."

After some discussion, I calmly pointed out "Hey, the ASIN I ordered for this item WAS the 7900 XTX." The rep verified this. I told them that if I ordered the correct ASIN, I can expect the item. It's in stock in black, there's no reason they can't fulfil this.

Rep A then went down this route and said that it just wasn't possible because the black 7900 XTX was $948.39 more expensive. It was too big of a leap. So I kept reiterating "I ordered the correct ASIN. If I ordered the wrong one I'd understand, but I've straight up been scammed here with a hairdryer". Rep A told me they had limitations.

Rep A is right. The basic customer service rep cannot approve such a big difference on his own. So I asked if I could speak to a supervisor. He connects me with Rep B.

Rep B brought up the 6800 fighter again, I argued back with the ASIN, we spoke for a bit. I went on hold for a long time. He came back to me and said "Look, you've been an active Amazon customer since 2012 so we're going to do this right and give you a one time credit to your account of the difference. I'm also going to instantly process the refund of the hairdryer you received instead of waiting for it to return to the warehouse. You still have to return that within 7 days."

After 49 minutes on call, I received a one time balance addition of $948.39 to go towards any purchase I want. So this deal, while not netting me a 7900XTX, did net me almost $1k for free.

Thanks OP. And to prove I'm not bullshitting, here's my gift card activity balance. You can see the amount I spent on the card on the 17th, and the two refunds.

    • +2

you could essentially buy the 5080 now. grats!

    • +1

      Awesome outcome, congrats!

    • +1

      insane!

    • Amazon are straight up scumbags for giving out this shit only to certain people and only $10 promotional credit offers to others.

      • You have rights under the accc to request a replacement and not a refund…if you wanted to take it further know your rights and take it further

  • +5

I got a pretty good outcome as well which although could be better I am still happy with and didn't want to push further.

Called up customer service and told them about the wrong item. He gave me the generic response that they can issue a return. I pushed and asked why they cannot replace it, and he said that they do not have access to the system to check stock (?) so they could not process a replacement.

I said there is a similar card to that model which they can replace, and he asked which one it is and I pointed him to the Hellhound XTX on the same page which is a different ASIN but the closest to that card. He said that I can get a refund difference on that one, and at this point I told him that it is unnaturally expensive for that card, so what if I order a different card to this one, as long as it is a similar price, and he said to put the card I am looking for in my cart. I found a 5080 that was $30 cheaper and added it to my cart and he said he could process a refund difference for this one.

Basically, am able to cop a 5080 for the same price as the deal listing. Be affirmative and reasonable and they should give you what you want.

    • +1

Good job, great result. Don't know how you could have got a better result then a $830 5080.

      • Straight credit would obviously be better but absolutely no complaints from me.

  • +1

I still haven't got my hair dryer lol

    • I got it now, and recieved a $500 Amazon credit for my troubles

  • +3

Been trying to get a price difference refund to get the 7900 XTX or equivalent for the past week or so and ended up with around $700 in gift card balance + the refund

Seems like the resolution you get depends heavily on the rep and I've gotten better results over the phone rather than through chat

If you can't get anything other than the refund out of them, just keep calling until you get one who will actually escalate to their "concern team" or direct supervisor while you're on the line

    • +1

Mine went to the concern team and they gave me nothing. I probably should have called.

      • +1

Think them "escalating to the concern team" is just them trying to get you off the line or chat.

I got that from a few different reps where they said they had escalated it and I would get a email reply within 24-48 hours and nothing ever came of it

  • +2

BE here, not sure if this is common case but my promise for the price difference of a white 5070ti has been taken back. The leader team sent me an email saying that the promise was wrongly made and they contacted the management team to deal with the associate I was taking to.

Chat 3 times and escalate to leader team, and they keep answering the same thing. False promise, can only return. Call once and get the same reply. Don’t know what’s happening, gonna just return and refund, so tired about this.

    • +2

Couldn't be arsed fighting for a replacement either, too much of a hassle already in returning it.

      • +1

It really doesn't take that much effort. I just did it today, end to end phone call was 33 mins 40 seconds and I got $500 Amazon credit out of it. Quite a good outcome.

        • Fairs, not everyone is going to have the same outcome. Congrats tho!

  • +1

I’ve had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with Amazon.
Like all of you I ordered the 7900 XTX, but instead, I received a hair dryer. When I contacted customer service to report the issue, the agent assured me that if I purchased a similar graphics card, Amazon would refund the original order and price-match the replacement.

Trusting their word, I went ahead and purchased the suggested replacement 5070 ti. But when I followed up after receiving the new product, I was shocked to be told that no such promise was ever made. I reminded them the phone call was recorded and asked them to review it to confirm what was discussed—but Amazon refused to investigate.
At this point, I was already extremely disappointed. I submitted a return request for the replacement graphics card, and Amazon has confirmed they received the item. I called to ask about my refund, only to be told I would have to wait 30 days. Even after escalating the issue to a "manager," I was still told there was no way to process the refund any sooner.

I’m feeling deeply discouraged and helpless. I have recordings of the original phone calls, and yet I’m still being denied a fair resolution. How can a company accept a returned item and then refuse to issue a refund in a timely manner? It’s beyond my understanding.

    • +1

This is my renturn order https://ibb.co/B5FTLNgL

The item has arrived Amazon and they confirmed today. The 'projected' receiving day is 25 Oct, and the refund is 30days away…. So ridiculous

      • +1

Ridiculous that Amazon can just decide to keep your $830 for 2 months.

        • Yeah but unlikely to be that long. I do wonder if a lot more would have gotten upgrades to 9070XTs if so many weren't so set on 5080s etc which no doubt would have raised flags in their systems.

        • Yep crazy

      • +1

This happened to me before when I returned a expensive item ($2500 camera). They seem to take forever to check that it matches the expensive item that was paid for (not a switcheroo) but noting that you didn't receive it in the first place…

        • +1

Such a terrible experience for you, mine return is a sealed unopened product. We already suffered by purchasing a wrong product, and they hold the fund for a unreasonable time is just unacceptable

  • +1

Returned mine 2 weeks ago now it stuck in Melbourne facility anyone else having issues with the retuen?

    • Is it stuck or is marked as delivered?

Recently returned mine, it went to the local Aus Post sorting facility, and was marked as "delivered".

I asked CS, and they said from there it gets sent back to the US, but I'm not 100% sure.

      • +1

Yeah just says waiting processing at facility been over a week. Really getting a bad taste with amazon after this with no compensation.

  • No luck getting a 5070ti or a 5080, or even getting a gift card straight away. I have to place an order with the black 7900xtx and get the difference refunded after

    • Hope you got it in writing..

      • +1

In order to help you, we will provide you the price difference on what you paid and what you are paying for the new order.
Once the new order is delivered, request you to contact us and we will provide you price difference

I prefer online chat instead of a phone call. They sent me an email after the chat.

        • I have received the similar via email but they still can turn black to white……

          • @abuseyourdna: Which is what they did to me.
I was told that there was no 7900 XTX stock and I could order a different item as a replacement and the price would be matched.
I linked a 5080, asked I could order it as the replacement and was told yes, order it and make the payment, and after receiving it to contact Amazon and the price difference would be refunded.
I contacted Amazon the day after receiving the item and was told that they will not and do not offer price matches, even though I have screenshot of the chat.
Follow up calls have been just as unsuccessful.

            • @artless: Same happened to me even I ordered 5070 ti

            • @artless: So now you are out of pocket and they wouldn't credit you? That's so bad.

I've got $500 credit sitting in my account right now, read my full write up on what happened.

  • +2

Received a hairdryer as well. Able to get a full refund without return + $500 gift card with the first agent I spoke to over the phone.

    • +1

Same thing happen to me, I will post the full report soon, hopefully people will find that helpful.

      Just be polite but assertive

  • +4

I got my RX 7900 XTX / Hair dryer today. I knew instantly it wasn't the card as the package was not big enough nor heavy enough, it was only 1.36kg. I filmed myself unboxing it and then took some photos, and hopped straight onto Amazon support opting for the call back option, not live chat.

TLDR: I received a $500 credit immediately plus the refund for the return, which will go through the normal return process. So in the end, I will have an Amazon balance of $1336 which I can spend on anything I wish. I paid for the original order with Amazon gift cards. Entire end to end call to achieve this result was 33 mins and 40 seconds. It was a polite conversation, no fighting or begging at all.

So after I picked up the call from Amazon, I explain what happened with the item how I received a smart hair dryer instead of the RX 7900 XTX I ordered. I was asked to upload some photos to prove what I'm saying. The representative said the only option was to return the item for a full refund, I said I want the item, I don't need a refund. He said the black version is too expensive, the difference is too much so replacement is not an option, the only option is a refund of the price I paid. When he said this the second time, I requested a supervisor. He then asked if I still wanted to speak with a supervisor even though he "has given out the correct information", I said yes.

He then placed me on hold for about 10 mins and when he came back, he warm transferred me to a supervisor. The supervisor immediately apologised and offered me 50% of the difference. ($1811 - $836)/2 = $487.50. I said make it $500. He then asked to put me on hold while he obtained approval from the "support team". 2 mins later, he came back and said its all approved. He will process a $500 credit to my account immediately, but I need to immediately place an order. I told him I will not place an order until I get the $836 back first as I used Amazon giftcards to pay for the original order. I don't want to have so much in credit in my Amazon account. He said, ok that's understandable, he will process the return for me and the original refund will come from the normal return process.

So now I have $500 credit in my Amazon account and I have sent the hair dryer back via the QR return code the supervisor created for me.

I haven't decided how I would use it, I might just get the 9070 XT for around $900-1000 and use the rest of the credits for something else. Overall, very pleased with the experience and result, it was a "deal" as I've been able to get $500 Amazon credit out of it at the cost of them holding onto my $836 for a month and spending around 30 mins on the phone.

Looks like this is a standard resolution for this, some people got way more credits, but they probably pushed harder. I think $500 is more than reasonable so happy to accept it. Be polite, but also assertive, focus on the fact that you want the item, not a refund.

    • +2

I'm happy for you, this is a good result! Hopefully I can get something sorted too.

It's hard to have a conversation with the staff when they keep talking over you. And harder to get answers when they stick to a script and keep repeating the same lines.
They said they don't price match, I would ask for their definition of price match as I felt that this was more of a price guarantee than a match. They would just keep saying they don't price match.

      • +1

The speaking over you part is quite concerning. The conversation I had with the initial agent was quite cordial. I allowed the agent to say his piece and he allowed me to say mine. It is very obvious he had a script, so basically according to his script, you either get a full refund or replacement, but the guy kept sayinf replacement is not possible because this item was sold by Amazon US.

You aren't going to get very far with the initial agent. He/she doesn't have much delegation to give you much. Just politely say, I want to speak to a supervisor, that's the person who has the power to give you credits. Focus on the fact that its been a month since ordering, you need this part for your build and for the inconvenience and gently push them to a resolution you want. Ask for a stretch goal first, like full difference with the $1811 black one, if they push back, then suggest they cover the difference for a cheaper RX 7900 XTX or 9070 XT. You should definitely be able to get at least $500 credits.
        Good luck!

        • +1

Still no success. They just keep saying:
          -someone will call in 24-48hrs
          -refund will come in 24-48hrs
-you will receive an email in 24-48hrs

          None of which ever happen.

I've decided to just return the 5080, so I'll be spending the next month chasing up the original GPU refund as well as the money for the replacement they told me to get.

  • +2

I got really lucky — still not sure how it all played out.

Grabbed my hair dryer and called customer service. At first, they only offered a $500 credit, but I pushed for a replacement. Eventually, they agreed to give me the RTX 5080, with one catch — I had to order it right away, and once it arrived, they’d refund the price difference. I even got that confirmed in writing from a supervisor (email).

The 5080 arrived, I called CS again… and got hit with the classic bait and switch. They said the previous supervisor was wrong and refused to honor the written agreement. Tried multiple times, but got nowhere — figured I’d just return the 5080 and move on.

Later that day, while adding some gift cards, I noticed I’d somehow been credited over $1,000 in gift cards. Still not sure how, but I’m not complaining.

    • +1

Are you sure those credits are not just from your RTX 5080 refund which you paid for out of pocket?

      • +1

The credits are from the refund. Except the CS rep denied the refund

        • +1

Nice, you got really lucky. I thought this was most likely either a price error or a scam. I bought it anyways so I can get some credits from Amazon lol

          • +2

@btchodler: Yes very lucky. As several people have reported their replacement was later retracted. The safe play is just take the $500

  • Final update!

I have now received and installed a 9070 XT. This deal turned out pretty well. I basically got $500 of Amazon credit out of this month-ish saga. I wonder how many people bought this hairdryer, judging from the comments here, Amazon must have lost at least $50k easily with this deal.

    • +1

The real takeaway here is to never fully rely on what customer service promises you—whether over the phone or through web chat. Even if you have it in writing, a different supervisor can easily deny it later. Always insist on having the credit applied to your account immediately.

      • +1

Absolutely, or you end up like me and waiting on $3000 worth of refunds while bouncing from one useless customer service rep to the next.

      • +2

Can’t agree more, same $3000 stuck there and the return is even coming back to me lol. Going to see hairdryers again. Idk why they say they received it but something 5kg (2 hairdryers) coming shoot!

        • They are sending the returns back to you? Why?

      • Definitely, I got the guy to credit me immediately and refused to purchase first before I received the refund for the hairdryer.

Will take these golden lessons to future deals like this. :)

      • +1

I had a customer service member reassure me that she will monitor my refund and call me. No call was received. I had to call them back.

  • +1

For context, I bought the second wave of this card (I paid $845) 3 days after this deal was posted, thanks to pgrid.

40 minute phone call with support and pretty quickly escalted to talking with a supervisor. at first, i was only offered a reimbursement on expedited delivery for my next graphics card purchase since I complained about the amount of time this whole process took. they also initially denied a replacement card as they "had no control over Amazon Global"

eventually after a lot of back and forth, they agreed to look at some cards that were being sold by either Amazon US, UK or Au. I went for the max and found a xfx 7900xtx ($1850), it was denied as the difference would be too much. I kept pushing and only looking at cards that were around $1600-1700, he finally folded after I added a ASUS 5070ti TUF OC ($1650). The supervisor then said Amazon will credit the difference after I buy the card ($805). I told him that I usually scout for deals and that I only bought the 7900xtx because it was at a good price. He understood this and I ended up getting a credit of the difference directly to my gift card balance.

In the end, I essentially got $800 from Amazon that I can put towards whatever I want, hopefully won't run into many issues with the refund process (which I asked to be refunded directly to my card).

  • Have any refunds come through yet? I called again yesterday chasing up mine and got the usual "24-48 hours" line.

    • All done, I got a full refund plus $500 credits, I purchased a 9070 XT instead and used the credits to fund other Amazon purchases.

      Pretty good deal

      • +1

I'm glad you got a positive outcome. I wonder how many people got a good result vs how many are still fighting just to get their initial refund back (like me).

        • I hopped on chat this morning and asked why it hadn't been refunded 1 month after being marked as return delivered by Auspost. They applied the refund straight away plus gave $20 credit as an apology.
Happy to just get my money back and be done with it.

Confirmed the refund just arrived (gift card balance since I paid with gift cards).

          • -1

@unco: I kept badgering them, so 7 days after I returned the hair dryer, they manuall credited me and gave me $10 (in addition to the $500) for my troubles.

  • Still waiting for refund. Been passed about customer services. Originally offered chance to buy card and they will cover difference, only for them to change mind and give $60 credit. Not happy with Amazon. Probably last time I order from Amazon US site.

    • -3

Did you follow what the others did? Pretty easy to get some extra credits (at least $500) for your troubles

  • +2

I followed the steps above and got approx $1000 in amazon credits. prob best amazon deal to date for me.

    • +1

Oh wow, that is a very good result.

Meanwhile they still have $3000 of mine and I have zero GPUs, so I'm leveling the curve for good vs bad results haha

  • +1

After a month of chatting and emailing Amazon support, I finally received a price difference credit to buy the black 7900 XTX from them.

Here’s my advice: don’t let them escalate your case to the “specialist team” — they’re useless. Instead, when chatting or calling, ask directly for a supervisor. Supervisors have the authority to issue credits. If one says no, just end the chat or call and try again until you find someone willing to help. Good luck!
