Woolworths Groceries: 20% Cashback, All Customers ($40 Cap, Min Spend $200) @ ShopBack

2210

Couldnt see this one posted - guess its shopbacks response to this

It says 20% cashback, min spend $200 and cap of $25 - which basically means its really $25 for $200+ spend.

Edit: Guess I didnt understand the deal right, min spend is $100 so it says its capped at $25 for $200 spend

Edit2: After all the confusing terms and conditions, I guess the deal is really $25 cashback for min $200 spend. Deal title updated.

Edit3: Deal updated to reflect 20% cashback and $40 cap (Min spend 200) as reported here credit @charlesgao01

Hope this helps some of us.

Enjoy!

Why bother advertising 20% cashback when realistically it’s only 12.5% cashback?

    • +1

reminds me of those ebay deals 30% off capped at $100 🥴

    • +1

Its a bit confusing, the terms say min spend $100, but the header says spend $200. May be the rep can confirm

      • @Dealking Email states "Only on orders over $200".

        • I probably need to update the deal to read $25 on $200+ spend - guess thats the best way to put it.

    • +2

yes surely this is against advertising regulations.

  • +9

So it's 12.5% cashback … not even close to 20%. Very misleading advertising.

    • +2

Either that, or they're just very bad at maths.

  • Confusing. No thanks

  • +1

    Is the minimum $200, $100 or $50?

    You won't get Cashback on:

    Any order containing tobacco items
Orders with value less than $50
Orders made from outside of Australia
O>rders placed over $1K or if more than 5 orders are placed on the same day
Minimum order value to be eligible for New customer cashback must be $100 excluding GST, discounts, tobacco products, bag fee & crate service fee.
Minimum order value to be eligible for Existing customer cashback must be $50 excluding GST, discounts, tobacco products, bag fee & crate service fee.

    • yes - confusing at best - its all over the place. Hopefully the rep can confirm.

    • +1

My 2 cents on the interpretation is as follows:
      - for new customer, <$100 spend: 0%; $100-$199.99 spend: 0.5%; $200+: 20% capped at $25 (effectively 12.5% with the cap)
      - for existing customer, <$50 spend: 0%; $50-$199.99 spend: 0.5%; $200+: 20% capped at $25 (effectively 12.5% with the cap)

Please correct if other have different read

      • New Woolworths Customers (Spend $200) - 20% Capped at $25 per order
Existing Woolworths Customer (Spend $200) - 20% Capped at $25 per order
        Everyday Market 5.5%
New & Existing Woolworths Customer (Spend under $200) - 0.5%

Need the rep to confirm really, none of the calculations add up to 20%.
        The terms are very inconsistent.
As per the last point - any purchase <$200 will only be 0.5% plus the $25 cap at $200 makes it 12.5%.

      • +1

        Yes, I think you're right.
To advertise 20% when it is unobtainable considering the cap is deceptive.

  • New Woolworths Customers (Spend $200) 20%, we will say as 20% to trick customers because we pay maximum only $25 - Capped at $25 per order
    same for
Existing Woolworths Customer (Spend $200) 20%, Capped at $25 per order.

  • +1

    misleading

  • +2

Wow, advertising an offer with a possible 20% cash back when it's not even possible to obtain is amazing incompetence at best.

  • +1

hate these half cooked deals from Shopback lately. Screams, we can do anything, don't give shit.

  • +1

So I made an order with apples in it, and Woolworths refunded me 9 cents because the weight of the apples was not exact, does this mean my entire cashback is void?

    • +1

I personally have very little experience with grocery cashbacks, its best if the store rep can confirm.

  • +2

They already updated, Existing Woolworths Customer (Spend $200), Capped at $40 per order

    • Thanks - updated the title and description

  • +5

Hey folks 👋 thanks for all the feedback on this Woolies deal, we totally get where you’re coming from. The $25 cap made it feel more like 12.5% than 20%, which wasn’t great.

Good news though — we’ve listened and increased the cap to $40 per order 🎉 So now you’ll be able to get the full value on your shop without it cutting off too soon.

Appreciate you all calling this out and helping us improve 🙌

    • +1

Thanks! Are you able to kindly confirm all terms for the benefit of this group? for eg. min spends for new v/s existing customers? does 20% only apply for min $200 spend with $40 cap?
Edit: Also, can you please advise on

So I made an order with apples in it, and Woolworths refunded me 9 cents because the weight of the apples was not exact, does this mean my entire cashback is void?

      • +1

Yes, the system triggers it as a refund based on the original cashback value and also as a change to the order, and it will automatically reject it.

      • -8

Hey 👋 thanks for checking! Here are the current terms:

✅ New Woolworths Customers (Spend $200+) – 20% Cashback, capped at $40 per order
✅ Existing Woolworths Customers (Spend $200+) – 20% Cashback, capped at $40 per order
        ✅ Everyday Market – 5.5% Cashback
        ✅ New & Existing Woolworths Customers (Spend under $200) – 0.5% Cashback

On refunds — unfortunately if any part of the order is refunded (even small amounts like weighed fruit/veg), the whole Cashback will be rejected. This is due to the terms which state that any cancelled, refunded, exchanged, or returned purchases aren’t eligible for Cashback.

Hope that clears things up 👍

Hey, GYB, refunds due to oos void the cashback isn't very fair. Is it possible Shopback can talk to Woolworths/Coles rergarding this?

It is very easy to verify and obvious on invoices/orders when refund is triggered by oos, not customer initiated refund. It would be more fair if actual cashback adjusted/reduced to reflect the refund due to oos provided meeting all other terms and conditions.

On the other hand, not meeting minimum spending due to less weight provided is another matter, just to be fair. In this situation, we, as customers, should consider to buy a bit more to avoid this happening.

GYB, don't you agree with us?

Please relay this message and get back to us. I am sure a lot of people here were and are going to be caught in such situation after spending over $200 or even $150 and not receiving any cashback due to oos items.

This is the time we need you to got our back.

@apple0604: Sorry guys, thousands of people apply for this, and it is impossible to track these things manually. That’s why there is a system in place to check. If there is any change — even $0.01 — to the original value, there will be no cashback. Hope this answers your question.

            • @Kas: I don't really care, but still think it is not fair. I am not a IT person. How difficult it can be to modify the system to recognise if refund is due to oos?

But do appreciate your reply. Let's see what rep, GYB, will say or if he/she doesn't bother to reply.

              • +1

@apple0604: Sorry for misunderstanding, I should mention it, that is what I received as reply. Not my statment.

        • Appreciate your effort, but still super confusing
New Woolworths Customers (Spend $200) 20%
Existing Woolworths Customer (Spend $200) 20%

But then you read the T&C:
Minimum order value to be eligible for New customer cashback must be $100 excluding GST, discounts, tobacco products, bag fee & crate service fee.
Minimum order value to be eligible for Existing customer cashback must be $50 excluding GST, discounts, tobacco products, bag fee & crate service fee.

          Make it easier for people.

        • +2

I've literally never had a woolworths order that didnt have any adjustments, pretty much kills this

        • @trotsky per our discussion in the TCB thread I think this is in direct contradiction to what you said.

Do you have experience to the contrary with SB?

    • +2

Why are you even calling it a percentage cashback?

This is just a different way of saying $40 bonus with $200 minimum spend. The previous deal was even more of a bonus ($25 bonus on $200 spend).

Spending more penalises you unlike how a 20% cashback would benefit you.

      • +1

        Right.
I decided to ignore this deal(?)

        • Fair call — with the cap, it’s effectively a $40 bonus on $200+ spend, not a true 20% across the board. Will get the wording updated to make it clearer 🙏

  • +4

Shopback, you really need to lift your game with these constant errors on your app, t&cs, emails promos not actually available on app etc etc.. it's getting ridiculous.

    • We hear you on the errors across app/T&Cs/emails. The team’s working on tightening this up so it’s consistent going forward. Appreciate you calling it out 🙌

      • less Artificial Intelligence and more Actual Intelligence

    • Speaking of which… never got my $10 off $10 spend from Sept 8th. Under “earn more” > ”history” > ”competition too strong”.

  • +1

Beware, Woolies orders are pretty much (99%) rejected for cashback. if one item is out of stock or you purchase an item that is price adjusted (i.e chicken breast), and there is a "refund", there goes the whole cashback order, even if it's no fault of your own

    • Sorry 99%??? , as per this comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16928625/redir
If you add any fruit, veg or meat , of cause it is going to be change. So I would say 100% there is no cahback and no deal, just in case if it exactly match, they will put some small item as OOS and slip from payiing to shopback and, with online ordrs, they get notification whether order came through any of the cashback click or not.

      • Is it for real that they purposely do that? That's cheating, isn't it?

        • +2

          kind of scam..

    • Wow, just saw this and the comments above. Makes this deal almost impossible to achieve I think.

I'm certainly not going to risk it.

      • Unfortunately I put in an order before any of those "any changes by Woolworths void the cashback" msgs - guess I'll have to plead via support if (when) that happens :(

  • +2

I couldn't work out why the negs still despite updated t&cs… Then I saw the 'any change by woolies to the order and no cashback.'

This kind of offer is harming your brand shopback and that's coming from someone that uses shopback as its main cashback provider. I don't often neg cashback deals but this one is not a good one…

  • I mean if you make a shop for over $200 and the ‘refund’ doesn’t take it under 200 you should get the full cash back.

  • Does the "change" include any substitutions woolies does? Even if it doesnt result in a refund, some random item will be substituted for something else. Especially if you are buying stuff worth 400$

  • These grocery deals are such an accident waiting to happen it borders on being a scam. Absolutely disgraceful conditions/limitations. Not blaming Shopback but these cashback websites need to be better advocates for their customers, not just happy to blame the partner merchant (as valid as it may be they are the cause).

    • +1

How is it not Shopback's fault? If the partner merchant is imposing impossible restrictions, don't even advertise it as available cashback. From what it sounds like though, Shopback is imposing the restriction themselves.
