  • It was $100 last year.

  • churned and burned and got $50 from them for the same promotion last year. Trying to think of a good reason why I shouldn't do it again :)

  • 0% interest free for first 5 months too!

The 0% p.a. promotional interest rate mentioned for purchases is valid for 5 months from the date of card approval.

$50 is not much of an incentive to get a credit card from the cba

    • Just cancel it in a few months time. You will still be + $50, money that you didn't have before.

  • True. CBA dont even allow you to earn Qantas points!

  • Does anyone know if there are any cancellation fees applicable?

I was about to neg the deal due to my run in with CBA before.

    Here's an overview about it:

$100 cash back promo. I applied, they accepted, but rejected my application. A few months later, they approved my card but told me that because my card was approved after the promotion I wouldnt be eligible for it.

Bearing in mind, my finances were exactly the same as during the promo. So I dont see why I wasnt approved earlier.

      How did you get accepted/rejected/accepted?

      • Flowers and Chocolate.

      • accepted over the phone
        rejected by email/letter
finally accepted a few months later by letter

    • Happened to me but it was HSBC card with $50 promo a while ago. They took a few weeks to process the application and approved it 1 day after the promo ended which I didn't realise because the promo wouldn't end for a month when I applied so I didn't think it would take so long. Called to ask about the $50 to realise they approved it 1 day after the promo ended hence no eligible >.< Make sure you call and neg them about approval if you want to be eligible for this sort of promo.

  • Damn, I wanna get this deal again but I already claimed the $50 by opening a new CC last time with the CBA. Nothing is a better feeling than taking a little bit of the banks(thief's) money.
I should get all my family members to open new accounts and give me the money.

Haha I did the same. Bought $50 of stuff I was planning to buy already, waited for the credit to show up, called up and cancelled it the next day.
No hard feelings, it's only money. ;)

      • Can you open a new card and be eligible for another cashback or is it for "new customers" only?

  • Is it possible to get the CC, get the $50 credit, cancel, and then re-apply for another one when another offer like this pops back up?

  • Awesome! I bank with Commonwealth already, so that was pretty easy (applied through my normal internet banking system), plus Commonwealth have a card with no annual fee for full time students. I already have a Mastercard Debit card with them so there's not much point in keeping up a credit card, but at least I can take my sweet time cancelling! Thanks OP!

  • Is it bad that I can't even remember what card I applied for and have been 'conditionally' approved for? I don't think there's a way to check now…
