Rate My PC Build

Been a fair few years and the old PC looks to have finally given up so I'm looking to get something to last for a while

A note that this build doesn't currently include the GPU, that'll be something bought soon but not instantly. Just want to be up and running from the onboard for now. Maybe 5070 Ti.

PC is for gaming and general use. Wasn't able to game very well with the old one but I want to be able to with this one.

And yes, white build with some RGB

Awful price on the NVME drive, get a PCIe 4.0 at a minimum. 990 Evo Plus is cheaper than that, but there are plenty of good options out there. For an all in one boot and everything, look for one with DRAM.

It's hard to find a proper review of the Toughpower GT specifically, looks to be a Chinese market release with little info. I'd find one that reviews well (or find a good tier list)

edit: Just to add, the 9800x3d isn't much better than the 7800x3d. Unless you're looking at low res, high frame rate gaming, I'd save a few hundred and save it for a late stage AM5 upgrade.

    • Awful price on the NVME drive

Yeah was still looking, just changed it to a T500 that seems to review well

Just an FYI that your chosen mobo already has 2 M.2 heatsinks, so probably unnecessary to buy a drive with one.

Unless they're all priced the same with/without the heatsinks, then buy whatever

Edit: $10 cheaper for same model w/o heatsink

          Thanks :)

Still working on the ram. The Amazon listing is (relatively) cheap, but it's XMD, which I'm reading may or may not have issues with AMD ugh

I think a white build would look best inside a Hyte Y70 case like this one but yours doesn't seem bad either

Honestly, the 9800x3d is overkill if you’re running a 5070/ti class card - unless you’re trying to push 240+ fps for competitive gaming. At higher res on a mid tier card, you wont see much of a gain.

I understand it’s a great cpu - but you could grab a 9700x or even a 7800x3d and save the money, or invest it in the next tier gpu.

Also - as above, get a pcie4 ssd as I doubt there’s much price difference?

    I’m jealous.

Yep. Save money on CPU and put it towards better GPU

    • Hmm around $540 (aliexpress) for 7800x3d or $739 for 9800x3d

I was going to say chuck one of these on if it fits in the case, but the deal is ded: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/927385 Only $5 more for a better cooler though. I found my Nebula PC came with a similar if not same cooler as in your build and I recently upgraded it to this Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, shaving a few degrees off idle and load. Wouldn't have looked so nice in your white build anyway 🤷

  • 7/10. This rating sponsored by IGN.

  • Would maybe recommend a slightly beefier CPU cooler if you do go for the 9800X3D

I built a mATX 9800X3D/9070 XT system over the weekend using a Spirit 120 EVO and the CPU reaches the low to mid 70s when gaming (with a -30 all clock). Granted I haven't dialed in my fan curves yet but the 9800X3D likes to boost till it reaches its thermal limit especially when pushing it hard.

And damn SSD and RAM prices are hitting hard…

And any case fans chosen yet OP?

And any case fans chosen yet OP?

Yeah, I need to see about those. I like the hexagonal look of the Lian Li's, just need to justify it lol

      • just need to justify it

It's the third most important factor for me:

        • 1 — OLED Monitor
        • 2 — Case
        • 3 — Case Fans
  • Is that the best CL rating for the ram?
Can't remember if 32 or 36 is best for the amd gpu

    • +2

CL30 6000 is optimal for these Ryzen chips, but prices have skyrocketed over the past month or so.

RAM speeds/timings won't affect GPU performance

Thanks crispy for articulating it in a way I couldn't!

  • Swap the m.2 PCIE 3.0 for a PCUE 4.0?
Load the textures from SSD to GPU a little faster?

  • You got a good cpu, shit cooler, Shit motherboard, good ram, shit nvme, shit case, shit power supply.

    • Some stuff has now changed 😛

      • +1

Still not a fan of the case, but everything else looks better.

        • What's wrong with the case?

          • @spackbace: Antec in general has fallen quality wise in the last 5-10 years.

          • @spackbace: I hate my different Antec case with front controls on top because if I am not careful when unplugging my USB stick from the port my fat pinky would touch the power button and turn off the PC

  • why don't you just jump on one of the deals for the pre builts on here.

    this psu looks pretty good

Actually that psu does look good, thanks!

Not a fan of the prebuilds. Sure, they have a market, but I'd rather choose my own parts to my needs, and exact models that I want.

      Plus, I want a white build 🙂

Last night looks like I snapped up the last set of 'cheap' ram @ JW. It's like $300 elsewhere ugh

    • +1

well done-i snapped ram two weeks ago - pull the trigger out of knee jerk reaction for Lexar 32 6400mhz cl 32 for $189, i think now its almost 300 buks LOL (originally planning to wait for black friday, glad i didnt)

    • it's cl38

      • I know, but I'll wait for the price issues to subside before going for something better, if I even need to
