This time no 2500 flybuy points.
So technically it is $9.5 dearer

Prices so good i got both, then got unlocked from Bagman here on ozbargain.

    Comes with $10 telstra credit.

    • Comes with $10 telstra credit.

It is "bonus credit", worth maybe $1 real money. Just bin it - the phone is great value anyway.

      • BTW don't throw out the T sim just yet, you need to activate the sim by 26/2 to get your bonus 2500 points in the FB deal.
Also I understand that you can use the credit to buy apps/games/books/movies on play store -
        https://help.telstra.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21717

I haven't tried this out yet so can't confirm

Another point is that after credit expires you may still be able to access T unmetered content using this sim - I have a T sim I use for testing network connectivity (when VF is dodgy) and I have still been able to do so after 2 years.

OK, to set the record straight on the Y201….
Received Flybuys bonus 2500 point offer (like some other members), activated (after purchasing phone and activating SIM by 26/2 at some later stage the 2500 points will hit the account).
Much scratching around here, Whirlpool and elsewhere leading me to buy 3 of these for my family to replace aging droids.
This deal doesn't appear in the weekly specials catalogue for some reason, but scans fine in store $49.50.
Local Coles had no stock, had them call around and found that Pacific Fair had plenty in stock, so had them put 3 on hold.
At Pac Fair they had no knowledge of the held stock, but no shortage either. So bought 3.
All were locked to Telstra. A Telstra SIM allowed me to see that the phone was aware of all flavours of 2G & 3G networks.
Arranged for unlock code from Bagman for $5, this arrived in good time considering Chinese New Year impact.
Phone unlocked without a hitch and confirmed that phone would be suitable for our needs (no Telstra neutered functionality on non-Telstra service).

So got 2 more unlocks that came overnight - brilliant service from Bagman.

I can confirm that with a Telstra or Vodafone SIM you get 2G & 3G service (as they use 850MHz) and that Optus 3G is not available.

SO if you plan to use this phone for Telstra or Vodafone (& their resellers) for 2G & 3G
    OR
all you want is a phone that makes/takes calls/txt, does usual smartphone stuff and 2G data will suffice on Optus
    Then it's a clear winner.

Anyway, thought sharing my experiences may help some of you who are going thru the same process.

  • bought one for missus from coles curtin (ACT). Unlock from Bagman arrived within the day. Phone up and running now with a optus reseller (tpg) sim installed. not sure why rayski57 suggests there's no optus 3g connectivity as the phone's 3g icon was flashing when we were using it. Seems to be an excellent pickup for the price and thinking of getting one for myself. Onboard memory is 2gb!! - slight step up from the 180mb that she had with the Samsung Gio. Can't work out tho, how to turn off the vibrate function (whenever a key is pressed) which is annoying.

    • In answer to your question as to why I said there was no Optus 3G, it's simple……I was detailing MY experiences with the phone.
The phone uses 850/2100MHz 3G, VF & Telstra (& therefore their resellers) use 850/2100, I'm led to believe Optus use 900/2100MHz. So where they have no 2100MHz towers there is no Optus 3G with this phone.

I also understand the phone to have 4GB of storage which is split into a number of parts including 512MB for apps and 2GB for other user storage ie video & audio files etc.
Definitely a step in the right direction from the Gio (although it's a decent phone) and other entry-level top brand phones.

As I don't have any of the Y201's at home right now I can't be sure, but I expect if you go to settings/sound/system you should have an option to turn 'vibrate on touch' on/off.

  • WOW i had to buy two UNO's the deal was that good, then thanks to this site i read about bagman and $13 unlocking codes. I'd say the process from start to finish took 30 min giddyup, easy as (and i was a bit worried) lol. Thankyou bagman, an aussie who's efficient and doesn't need any more personnal details than a email address….. brilliant
