about $2 cheaper than this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91118

    • +3

Yes, $17 cheaper on pickup, $3.20 cheaper on delivery.

  • +10

good price but given the JB/telechoice deals and the 199 velocity it's a bit weak

    • +9

Velocity for 200 is the best deal at the moment

      • -6

probably, but velocity is a crap phone

        • +13

Nonsense. It doubles as a portable space heater or cooktop - what other phone can do that?

        • +3

don't care about neg votes) but velocity IS a crap phone) in terms of voice quality, battery life and signal reception (3 main phone features) motorola is much better!

        • -1

not unless you use a telstra sim. all your problems will be resolved.

        • nothing to do with the sim) motorola has the best hardware and lot's of unique patents for voice transfer part

        • patents, yes, but so does nokia and blackberry and look where they are now. not sure about best hardware and definitely not sure about the software-hardware integration, which hopefully will keep improving now it's been adopted by google

        • -3

I will give him one more -ve to help hide his nonsense.

        • +3

if you can live without the 4g, yes, you're probably better off with the razr, no carrier problems, good battery life and all round performance. Happy with mine.

        • -1

I cant live with 4gb internal memory.

        • -1

I meant hardware for voice transfer and connection only
+ technologies like "crystal talk" etc.

the Velocity deal is great as long as you can find one. Been to 3 Kmart and 4 DSE last week. DSE online is out too. None of them have any stock. So this is the next best thing.

        • I was at Dandenong K-mart yesterday and managed to pick up a Velocity. There were 2 left at 3pm. Might be worthwhile checking there if you're still after one :) Your profile says you're in Vic.

Nonetheless, this is a good deal too!

        • Check the stock availability online before you go. I checked online and found the only store that had it in stock in Sydney Metro was the one in Leichhardt, which is a very tiny store. I am happy I got one after I drove 30km to the store last week.

        • Dandenong is a bit far for me, but I guess we will do anything for a bargain.

    • xbai forgets to put a comma. Velocity is an excellent phone IMHO as I own one. Best phone you can get for $199 at the moment. You can't go wrong!!

Great Phone for the price. Battery is quite better than my Samsung S2. Both have same specs.
But for games and apps, I realise the screen is not that responsive and Applications take a bit long time to load.

but looks wise it is quite impressive and better than the S2. Good bang for the bucks.

    • +3

Only real downside to this phone is the locked bootloader. But, supposedly can still get root which is better then nothing.

      • Yes, that is a real shame. Got one for my other half and she is quite happy. Downloaded few apps and games and still 1.2 GB left. So we can live with it.

It covers all 3G bands, has better resolution than S2 and long battery life, cannot expect more.

I know it says no network branding, but I've bought "unbranded" phones which have had carrier-specific bloatware in the past. Can you confirm these are pure unbranded ones with no Optus crapware?

    • +1

      This one is 100% unbranded.

      • Great, but there seems to be no pick-up option during the checkout process, and I wasn't able to find any instructions on the site for making a pick-up order.

        • Hi Jabba

Sorry, no pickup option on checkout at moment, just come to the store to pickup or call 0298938886 to reserved.

I bought a Razr V from JB's when they had the special to replace a HTC Desire. I'm very pleased with it - 1.64GB space left after loading all the apps I want atm. Battery life is quite good - I'm using Juice defender free & I'm a light user.
No network branding, no carrier bloatware apart from a few Motorola apps.

    • Argh! why do carriers and mobile phone producers think that people want their bloatware or custom apps? If google hasn't included it in Android then people DON'T WANT IT!!! People go out of their way to make sure they don't get phones with your bloatware! so what do they do? Add more! I'm looking at you HP

Hi rep, any chance to get Nokia 920 at a cheaper price?

    Look forward to a "OZBRAZR599" !

    • +1

it would be OZBLUMIA599 or possibly OZBURDREAMING599

    • Good suggestion, I will try with our supplier.

  • Hi Rep, what's your sydney address ?

  • not negging this deal. but motorola once was notorious about post sale service. they even charged for pc tools update!

    • +1

This one comes with 2 years warranty. Have not dealt with them in the past. So fingers crossed.

      • where does it say 2 years wty?

        • +2

I got it few weeks back from JB and the warranty card inside it says 2 years warranty.

        • that's good to know, do you need to register with moto?

        • I haven't read that in the card. So not sure.

        • Registration (or lack of it) has no effect on a warranty.

        • for some products you only get extended manufacturer's warranty if you register

        • True. I have seen that for Iomega NAS drive and few routers like Billion. Not read anything for Motorola though.

    • they use fonebiz same as samsung, etc. Ive returned my Motorola Xoom without incident.

Apparently foebiz are having some kind of computer problem and cannot book in new jobs at the moment.

My boss has a HTC Velocity and if I'm not fixing it, i'm forever hearing about how much of a pile of garbage it is. I would take a Razr V over a Velocity any day of the month, even if I was on Telstra and it meant missing out on 4G.

    • Anything specific problems your boss encountered with the phone?

      • +2

        Terrible battery life

        General lag

Poor quality screen - I've always noticed quite poor contrast levels

        Unresponsive touch screen

4G dropping in and out - and seeing as my boss both lives and works in the CBD, that is an issue!

You've really got to think - why is DSE/Kmart clearing these out at $199? It's not out of the goodness of their hearts, its because Telstra couldn't sell them through their usual avenues/at their usual price, because their issues are well-known.

        • Thanks for the honest feedback!

    • To be honest I dont understand why people have so much hope for Velocity. I have one lying around since the call quality is too crappy. I heart that a rom update would fix the issue. Anyone here knows anyway to bring the phone back to life that would be great

  • Damn it! just got mine last week for $249 from the other deal, price already gone down another $20! but anyway its a great phone, very light use for me and by switching off every nite, i can have the battery last more than 3 working days !!!
Still waiting for my screen protector and case to arrive …

  • Hi Rep or Others.

Do you know which good phone that still using the normal sim card?
My friend is looking for a new phone but the good one either mini sim or micro sim.

    budget up to $500.

    Please let me know.
    Thanks

    • you could just buy a micro sim or mini sim. They're only about $2

      • Unfortunately, he ordered the normal sim card last week and now would like to buy a new phone (without thinking which phone to buy and assume the latest phone use the normal sim).

so he asked me which new phone that use the normal sim card and i told him it is hard to find normal sim card with a new phone. I told him to cut the sim or re-order the sim replacement if necessary.

        • Dick Smith do SIM cutting for $5, if your friend isnt confident in cutting it himself and/or doesnt want to wait for new sim delivery. Takes less than 5mins.

        • Thanks. Will let my friend about this.

  • +1

size of SIM is a buying criteria now???? What's the big deal. Just cut the damn thing (or buy a $1 adapter to go the other way)

  • Great deal, thanks for posting.
Missed out on the JB Hifi offer, so have placed an order with these guys

  • Good deal. Tossed between this, the Nokia 620 or the Velocity..
