Queen Size Bamboo Sheet Set $79.95 Plus Shipping

30

Lower spec than most I've seen at 250 thread count (300 seems to be the normal starting level, but they usually start at around $130-140). They also have 300 thread count for $120 and other sizes. 320 for $160 on the normal page. Shipping isn't as cheap as some places.

Bamboo is supposed to be soft, cool and tough.

  • I need new sheets, kinda wanna try out Bamboo, but that low thread count has me scared!

    • Their 300's are not a bad price on that page.

The way I thought about it was from what I've read the 300TC bamboo feel like 1000TC cotton sheets, so the 250TC bamboo must be ok. Even good 250TC cotton are reasonable. I particularly like cotton percale sheets.

      • Do you own any of this specific brand?

        • I just bought two of the cheap ones so I'll let you know. At the moment I use 500TC cotton percale (which I got for $30 a set!).

Have to say their site doesn't exactly instil confidence, but I reckon all these lower end bamboo sheets are pretty much the same.

        • My skin is sensitive to those man-made types, they make me itchy. I'm interested in your 500TC cotton percale. can you tell me where you got it from? Thanks.

        • Aren't they all man made? If you mean synthetic (which of course you do) none of the sheets here are - Tencel, bamboo and cotton are all natural.

The 500TC percale were a Deborah Hutton line at KMart (this was at least 5, maybe even 8 years ago). Originally about 4 times that price they were massively reduced and I snapped up two packs - and they were full queen sheet sets - a bargain! Really nice sheets (though it really grates to subsidise a celibrity lifestyle).

        • Yeah, that's what I meant, synthetic, haha. What a bargain! You are lucky.. Thanks a lot.

    • Thread count doesn't mean anything about quality.
I recently got a 1000TC set from Spotlight, not sure on the brand, but marked down from $150.
They completely suck compared to my 400TC Sheridan's. They have been used once, and never again.
It is the quality of the material and construction rather than just thread count.
A high thread count is also too thick and uncomfortable during summer. We never use our 1000TC until winter.

  • I only wear www.bamboobits.com.au socks these days, anything else just suck.
Even Coolmax socks are too uncomfortable.
Bamboo, when it is proper bamboo, is awesome.
I will have to give these a try.

Damn, King Set doesn’t have as big a discount.

  • I told the seller about this listing. I asked if the 300TC ones were a lot better ('cause I might pay the difference). Here's what she said:

'Naturally there is a difference between the thread counts however it's not huge. The 300 & 320 thread count are very soft but I am 100% confident that you'll love the 250.

The only reason the cream sheets are on clearance is because I only have queen size left and they have an older style insert which I remove before sending. There is nothing wrong with the quality and they have never been unwrapped.

I don't think it's appropriate for me to register to respond to people but thought I might explain about the thread count matter. Other sheets are measured by the 10cm square but bamboo is by the 2.54cm so you can roughly multiply the thread count by 3-4 to get a comparison. Also regarding the postage I can only go by what Australia Post charge as it's calculated in the shopping cart. Wish I could offer free postage but then it would only be added to the item anyway. '

(I then told her about commenting as a rep.)

    Good morning,

My name is Alanna and I am the seller of the sheets being discussed here. I wasn't sure if it was appropriate for me to be involved in the conversation but wfd Tamar assured me it was fine to do so.

I will mention first up though… if Australia Post charge more for a wrapped parcel and I can fit it into a pre-paid satchel then the additional cost is refunded to the buyer.

If anyone has a question please feel free to ask.

    • Hi Alanna,

Can you give me a brief idea of what the benefits of bamboo sheets are?

      Cheers

  • Hi tshep,
There are so many but I think the best one is that they feel so good to sleep in. They are really soft and comfortable all year round. I use 250-320 thread count and although I have a set in 400 thread count I do find them a bit heavy and prefer that weight for doona covers.
The fibres are hollow so they are thermal regulating. They insulte in cool weather and draw the heat out in the hot weather.
The growing of bamboo and manufacturing to cloth is much more environmentally sustainable than cotton.
Is that too brief? Is there anything specific that you aren't sure about?
    Regards
    Alanna

    • Perfect, i'm sold on them.

  • Worth taking note of the type of laundry detergent recomended for them (in fact all sheets) on their FAQ page. I didn't know optical brighteners were damaging to fibres. Another brand not listed which is ok to use is Orange Power (except for their Super Brightening 3x one).

  • The optical brightener issue can be a problem in the taupe sheets but I make sure everyone knows about the potential damaging effects to the fibre not just the natural dye. A care instruction sheet is included with every set.
One of the reasons we like organic fabrics is because of the minimal impact their production has on our environment so it seems reasonable to use a carfeully selected laundry product as well. The problem arises when manufacturers are not obliged to list their ingredients and the name of these optical brighteners can vary so it's very difficult for the average consumer to make an informed decision.
I will list more safe products as I find them.

  • I have been sourcing more information regarding the optical brightener issue. As companies get back to me with as assurances that their products are safe to use they will then be listed on the site.

May I also take this opportunity to thank those of you from Ozbargains who have purchased bamboo sheets. I appreciate it very much and hope you are all happy with them.

  • Follow up on the Optical Brightener Agent (OBA) issue.

I have listed on our website a number of products which are available and safe to use and have also spoken to 'Orange Power'…. in 1 month they will stop using OBA's in all their products but for now the only one which is free from these chemicals is the 800ml 3X concentrate.
This link will give you some valuable information about OBA's and although it is advertising a product the information is relevant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyf5wrqWns4&NR=1&feature=ends…

A care sheet with this information is also included with the sheets when they are sent out.

  • Got my sheets. Keep in mind the ones posted are 'satin weave' which gives a slightly shiny, smooth feel. They also seem a bit over size (the fitted sheet and pillow cases). I haven't washed them yet so maybe they will shrink or tighten up a bit. It's only a few cm's (fitted sheet) and doesn't worry me.

    • They are made to fit standard Australian sizes and will shrink to the correct size with the first wash. The satin weave makes them extra smooth, you'll love sleeping in them.

Interesting conversation with the Andrew Chaney at Orange Power about their use of OBA's and phasing them out. It was Andrew who gave me the link to the YouTube clip which I thought was interesting enough to post on our web page and on our facebook page.

I appreciated your input on the matter, thank you very much.

  • Mine just arrived thanks, haven’t opened the post pack though.
Now for some weather that will allow them to dry so I can wash them first.

Actually, is there any point in washing them with detergent on the first wash pre use?

    • Hi Snuke,

Glad the sheets arrived promptly….. good luck with drying anything at the moment!

Washing them first up in tepid water is fine and I've had a number of people tell me they've used epsom salts, washing soda or even bi carbonate of soda. Only use about a desertspoon full.

I like to use Aware because my laundry water goes out to my veggie garden but there are many products to choose from.

      Thanks again for your purchase.

      • Good tip on Aware, our water is recycled too.

  • I love mine. Washed them and slept on them last night - just amazingly soft, will be buying more

    • I'm really happy to hear such good feedback. Thank you so much.

  • Great sheets, very soft and silky feeling.

    • Hope you're sleeping well!
