3D, VMAX fees are the worst :(
Hard to avoid because majority of the popular sessions times are in 3D or VMAX… I usually don't book online to avoid the booking fee. IMO booking online should be cheaper.

but $10 still bargain compared to normal price…

    • +3

i was thinking about the online booking fee. i think its probably designed as a minor disincentive, because people who buy tickets the old fashioned are more likely to spend at the candy bar - which is the source of the cinema's best profits.

booking fee for Argo? Argo f*** yourself…

    • Can I +1 this comment times a million? :)

    • Where was the spoiler alert haha

  • Whats the pick of this crop?

    • +1

      Honestly? They're all pretty good.

Taste is subjective and all, so just look them up on Wikipedia and see if any of them interest you. They're all 70%+ on Rotten Tomatoes, so there are no major stinkers in the list.

    • +2

Depends on the types of films you enjoy. If you like popcorn flicks, Django. Musicals? Les Mes. Romcoms? Silver Linings. Go team America, we're totally justified for everything we did these last twelve years? Zero Dark Thirty.

      You get the idea.

    • Zero Dark Thirty was okay, but not something I'd want to watch in the cinema, more like one of those watch at home stuff.
As with Flight same thing, surprised with Denzel actually, he normally signs on movies with a bit of action. Very slow movie IMO, ending predictable.

    • +4

Django Unchained. Glad I saw it in cinemas and not on a PC.

    • Maybe it's the OzB blood running through me - If I am paying, I want it to use every inch of that screen. I guess action vs comedy is where it's at for me.

  • +3

Just don't bother with Zero Dark Thirty.
Nearly all the others are great

    • Nearly? that's what I'm afraid of.

      ** SOPILER ALERT **
If the highlight of the movie for you was the last 15 mins, you didnt get the movie.
I think it highlights the different level on which war is conducted:
With intellicence and interrogations with a commando strike versus random suicide missions.
The movie does not go into what is right or wrong.

    • Really? Silver linings playbook bored the crapload out of me.

    OzB Protip #1
1255 minutes, or nearly 21hrs of cinema viewing for $90.

    OzB Protip #2
Rental of a velour cinema chair, while watching Django is only 6.06c/minute (best value of the 9 movies based on time).

Watch a movie or fly to the Gold Coast. Hmmm.

  • Please for the love of GOD don't see Movie 43.

I saw Zero Dark Thirty last night, it was ok, but really slow for the most part.

  • But movie 43 has Hugh jackman!!!

    • In the most humiliating and unfunny scene he has ever been in.

Can download them all for free ;-)

Five finger discounts are not bargains since STEALING is illegal. Piracy = intellectual property theft.

      • -1

For all the people who voted down on this comment, I guess you should also vote down on every other bargain since paying for a product = no bargain when it can be had for free; just shoplift.

    • +1

      You wouldn't download a car..

    • +3

Until I can afford a 20 metre screen at home, this still counts as a bargain ;)

  • Is this an online purchase only?

    • It says 'when buying online' in the text, but I'd love to know if someone gets it over the counter.

  • +3

Life of Pi: boy in a boat with a tiger.
    Rated: PG (Mild Survival Themes)

    lol

  • $10 is still way to much… That's like normal cost I thought :L

    • Most cinemas actually make money selling beverages and snacks, not by selling tickets. That's the main reason why the inflate the pricing on food and drink.

Goes to say how little they actually make by selling only tickets, and at $10 they may actually incur a net loss depending on the sales volume.

God I love being a student. $6.50 Student tickets, I see movies all the time! :P

    • +1

Same, I've seen so many movies these holidays, almost one a week.

      • +1

I 'won' a 2 for 1 movie voucher for Event cinemas through the McDonalds monopoly promotion.

Two tickets (for me and my gal, any day, any time @ Brisbane Myer Centre) is $13. The 2 for 1 voucher will cost me $20.70 for two tickets!

        PFFFFFFFT.

        • +1

That's pretty awesome. I used to be able to get I think $9 or so tickets at the Bris Myer Center, but can't anymore. So now we just go to South Bank.

    • +1

How do you get student ticket for so cheap?

      • I get the same deal, Brisbane Myer centre and Indooroopilly offer $6.50 tickets for Cinebuzz Student Members everyday.

  • Jesus Christ, half these movies have been available to buy on DVD for months now? How far behind are Aussie cinemas these days?

    • This is pretty typical for awards season. They release these type of movies in the US late in the previous year so they're fresh in voter's minds, then once they're nominated, release them everywhere else to capitalise on Oscars buzz.

    • Yeah, I watched a bluray copy of Cloud Atlas last night, a movie that isn't out in cinemas til mid March.

    • A Jesus Christ movie winning an Oscar - that'd be in the lap of the gods.

  • Not that cheap.. My local Event Cinemas has adult tickets for $8.50 all week anytime.

    • Lucky you, its more like $19 here, and $15 or so concession

      • Yeah fair enough, didn't realised it varied by that much considering they are all Event Cinemas.

      • +1

George St Sydney is like $23 per ticket…

  • You know that in Australia Apple and alike double the price of what is offered in the US. And the Australian Government is going to try to take them to the cleaners, but as usual they are a toothless tiger.
Australian companies selling in to Australia are cleaning up on the sales profits from Australia with the high Aussie dollar!!!

    • +2

You know that in Australia Apple and alike double the price of what is offered in the US

not entirely accurate, but who needs accuracy in a rant :)

    • Is that the truth, or did Alan Jones tell you?

    • -1

      LoF ?

  • -2

    When does this offer expire?

    • +2

The expiry is in the OP. 21/02/2013 - 27/02/2013

    • Hasn't even started yet

  • +1
