  • What language supported? Handwriting?

    • +1

Download the trial and see for yourself. It doesn't do Handwriting, and I don't think it does east asian (non latin) languages. I could be wrong though.

      • +1

Too bad the one thing now that keeps me from moving from Swype to SwiftKey Flow is East Asian language support :(

        • +1

It actually does a bunch of Asian languages, including left-to-right languages like Arabic and Hebrew.

          Here's the full list: http://support.swiftkey.net/knowledgebase/articles/163845-wh…

        • Go Keyboard supports east asian languages and also has gesture typing.. it's kinda laggy for me though sometimes so i disable it

          oh and it's free

  • I use Swype, which works well.
Swiftkey users… is it worth changing?

    • +15

      Yes

      • Mind elaborating? Swype is free isn't it?

        • +2

Everything about Swype works poorly compared to Swiftkey.

        • +3

The word prediction is much better on SwiftKey. Swype so often predicts the completely wrong word or else can't differentiate between words such as our and out. SwiftKey uses context to better guess the next word. Saves a bit of time and makes long entries like emails less tedious. If this deal goes for a few days grab the trial version and use it for a day.

        • I'm the complete opposite I find swiftkey rubbish & slow to type with, Swype works perfectly for me. Maybe its just whatever you use more you prefer!

    • Not sure if the sale includes the tablet version, but on a tablet SwiftKey is much better than Swype. On my phone the new swype-y-ish keyboard in JB is pretty awesome.

      • +3

Yep, both versions on special. Best $2 you can spend for the phone or tablet.

    • +1

Have been using Swiftkey for years now on the Phone and had no problem with it. Also have a tablet version but have transformer prime so use the h/w k/b most of the time.
Very good at predicting next word, not sure if its an awesome feature or creepy i can use the prediction to type most of the messages(usual and simple).

Just noted, not a big fan of swipe but if you disable gestures can be used to delete words(swipe left) and hide k/b (swipe down).

    • Yes, quite often for messages I don't have to type a single word..

      For example
      Happy birthday to you

Wish you a very happy birthday.

The above two lines were typed with two alphabets and space bar…

    • Which swype are you comparing to?

The one that used to be flexT9, then was renamed to swype when the company bought the rights to the name from google? Because I paid for swiftkey, and frankly swiftkey is much worse.

Of course, when you say swype, if you're talking the google one or the abysmal samsung knock-off, then both those are worse than swiftkey.

I recommend going and installing the swype beta.

Edit: I'm going to retry swiftkey with the flow feature. Not sure I've tried that, could be a gamechanger.

      • Swiftkey flow is much better now that it is out of beta.

  • +2

I used Swiftkey for months and loved it before it had the "Flow" feature. Jumped on Swype with 1.4 beta and used it for the last few weeks. I tested Swiftkey Flow with the same words I find Swype would have trouble with and it was solid, got them right every time. I think I'm going to move back to Swiftkey and use Flow from now on.

Without a doubt the best keyboard app on Android. Worth $2

    • Android 4.2 has a swype keyboard built in, but I do find this to be a little better.

  • Just bought it! I've been a long time user of Swype and am excited to see what Swiftkey can offer :) Was it just me or did anyone else find that Swype 1.3 was very poor at picking up the swiping pathway and predicting words? Thankfully version 1.4 seems to be a lot better.

    • +1

Can you please let us know if it is worth upgradeing from Swype?
I'm currently quite happy with Swype.

  • +1

IMHO it's not as easy to correct for incorrectly "flown" words, which swype is better at, but swiftkey gets the right words more often

    • +1

You can correct them by hitting backspace once. It should pop up a list of options.

      • yeah but the whole point of flow is that you keep going and going fast =D

swype you just double tap on the word and gives you suggestions, with swiftkey you need to backspace it, or go back a few words and backspace that one in order to correct, it's not quite as good but otherwise it's better than swype.

  • Have been using Swiftkey for ages now and just installed the update earlier this evening. It has been my favourite keyboard to date. The new flow feature looks like it may take a lot of getting used to though. I think I'll stick to the non-Flow style for now.

  • I have been using the "free" downloaded version for a while now but I'd rather use the paid version. thanks OP just bought one.

  • -6

I use SwiftKey 3 (paid version) on my phone and love it, but I don't like how I have to buy the updated version.

    • I updated mine to version 4 with no cost. what are you talking about?

      • +7

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. For some reason it wasn't set to auto update.

  • +1

Best app worth the money. Prediction learns your input, such as typing an address, cos I type the address so often, the app learns so once I enter the building number it gives suggestions for the address so I don't have to type, just click the suggestions. Happy with the recent updates and languages

    • As an OzBargainer, I can see how this 'address feature' is useful :)

  • just updated mine. pre kewl

  • The only downside is this app doesn't support Chinese or Japanese. Whenever I need to type in languages other than English I have to switch app which is annoying.

  • I just bought the tablet version for my Asus Infinity. Thanks for the advice. Initially the App store said it was not available for this device, then it changed it mind. Crazy app store. This SwiftKey keyboard is so much better than the stock one I was using before. Very Happy!

  • I like both swiftkey and swype, but I find swiftkey is marginally faster.

  • +4

I got this for 25 cents during the Google Play sale. I thought I was going to have to buy it again for this new version, but was pleasantly surprised when I found that all I had to go do was update my app.

  • Advantage over stock google keyboard which has the continious flow feature also?

    • Prediction. Swiftkey is creeply accurate in prediction. Often a full sentence :) Now with swype like feature its awesome.Try it, there is a free version.

      • SwiftKey can use your Facebook and Twitter posts, SMS and emails to enhance prediction (if you give it permission to). It seems to know my writing style better than I do :P

  • +1

So I was new to Android starting with the 4.2 keyboard, which I found acceptable. Couldn't refuse top app on playstore on sale though, I'm not sure I prefer this keyboard over the stock 4.2 keyboard with swype, but now I need to use it since its been paid for, lol.

    • It is really for people with older versions of android, the stock keyboard was a lot worse before 4.2. Personally I would use the 4.2 keyboard.

  • For people with 4.2 keyboard, how does swift key compare? I have 4.2 and it seems pretty good. Note I haven't used any other keyboard before so I wouldn't know how they fare

    • I find them very similar, but prefer 4.2's simpler layout and super smoothness.

    • As bruce said they are very similar, but after using Swiftkey Flow for a day I find it's prediction more accurate. Very happy with either one.

  • You're silly if you missed buying the previous version (free upgrade) for 10c. :P

  • SwiftKey flow is great. The first beta was pretty bad, but they improved it tenfold, rather quickly too.

I use to want more than 3 suggested words, but seems it's gotten better (or I have at typing) and 3 is now plentiful.

    Great app.

  • It's great, using it right now, when I changed from iPhone to android auto text correct was the thing I missed the most but SwiftKey is even better, you can type in almost any old garbage and it will sort it out perfectly. I typed this on the bus this bus this morning, didn't have to fix up anything. Everyone else here seems to say the say thing but mostly I wanted to post because yesterday I gladly paid the full price the moment I got paid (trial had ecpired). If you've any doubts, just get the fully functional trial version to try out. I've never used Skype and I'm sure there are alternatives just as good but honestly, I never bothered looking.

  • Coming from iOS I was fustrated that my typing produced a much worse result using Android's default keyboard.

Since using the beta of Swiftkey Flow I was able to keep to my sloppy sausage-finger prodding with great results. Very happy to get the full version!

    • Swiftkey outperform iOS keyboard without any doubts.

  • I've tried Swype, 4.1 default and SwiftKey, and without a doubt, SwiftKey is the best of those.
I only wished they had swiping which they now have in the form of flow.

    It's the best.
Half the time you don't have to type anything.

    • Yeah 4.1 default really isn't in the race at all, 4.2 default is a different thing.

  • Started using it last few months because I was so sick of Swype using random words I'd never heard of. It's so much better than Swype, wish I started using it earlier. The prediction is amazing and now combined with the swiping - perfection!

  • Wait a sec.. I purchased Swiftkey 3, do I get a free upgrade to 4? Or is this treated as a separate app? If it's the same app updated, they should drop the number from the title and just add it to the version and changes log.

It's this one for the phone. If you purchased it already, you just need to update it. No idea why they called it Swiftkey 4.

      • Because when you release a major version update to software you increase the number..

        • +1

In the version number, sure, but not in the title/name of the app.

  • Been trialling on my own terms, so to speak, for 6mths now… Still, can't decide if I like it. It's stays are SO crap it's not funny. I'll type almost every letter of a word, and out of laziness choose the suggestion… And I swear it counts every letter in its savings. But i spend 75% of the time typing blind because I'm watching the suggestions. It's arse about! I'm frustrated just thinking about it. I've spent more time correcting it during this message than it has helped me. If I was on a desktop I'd bold every word just to show you. And I don't have it set for strong. I swear mildly, but it never ever predicts that. I've never once wanted to say Arsenal.

Give up trying to predict my text! With my 1000's of txt and email scanned, it's still far from working!

    • Been trialling on my own terms, so to speak, for 6mths now

It just had an update, it's much better since it's out of beta.

    • Stats are crap, I tried to write. So many mistakes! Stupid auto correct! I'd rather spell a word wrong here or there, than absolute random words in place. Stuff this (ghost?!) , grrrrrr. uninstalling!

  • Have always loved this app, but it is now perfect with Swype - or "Flow".

    Very impressed with it!

  • I bought it at full price ($4) a while back. Definitely worth it. Here's a review I wrote:

I never thought I'd prefer a touchscreen keyboard over a physical one, but this app has changed my perception of software keyboards and how they should work. Its prediction engine is amazing, you can type very quickly and sloppily and the autocorrect will work well almost all the time. If you allow it to, it can learn your writing style based on your sent emails, texts, Facebook and Twitter posts, which tunes the prediction engine to your unique style of writing. Highly recommended!

The only "disadvantage" I've seen is that my typing has gotten sloppier and I've become somewhat dependent on SwiftKey to type accurately on my phone. :P

  • "it may collect passwords and account information" - slightly weary of such warnings (trial version)

    • This warning is universal for all Android keyboards — it appears everytime you install a 3rd party keyboard.

  • +1

Finally purchased SwiftKey (both the phone and tablet editions). I've been a Swype user for maybe 2.5 years so I'm eager to give SwiftKey Flow a try. While the prediction is quite good:

    • Making a mistake means holding Backspace to delete the whole word and try again. Instead of pressing Backspace to delete the whole word on Swype, OR pressing the Swype key to make selection.
    • Rainbow colour trail! Arghhhh!
    • 60 languages…. but no Chinese (which is what I need). Again, Swype has that.

I haven't used it enough to work out which one makes me type/swipe faster. I guess I'm a bit fed up with Swype updates — every time there's an update it's usually 2 steps forward and 1 step back. I've heard good things about SwiftKey (on OzBargain :) and how they constantly try to improve their product. I guess I'll stick with it for a week or two to see how it goes.
