Free Double Pass to the Good Food & Wine Show (SYD, MEL)

4410
AMEXorCAST&GILorMetricon

My girlfriend received this email:

We would like to extend an invitation to attend the Melbourne or Sydney Good Food & Wine Show. This offer is available to Castran Gilbert clients and redeemable through Ticketek for 3 days only. Limited passes available!

Melbourne show dates: 7-10 June 2013
Sydney show dates: 28-30 June 2013

Simply follow the steps below to redeem your tickets:

  1. Select which event (Sydney or Melbourne) you'd like to attend
  2. Select which day you wish to attend
  3. Enter your unique code word, CAST&GIL, at checkout
  4. Download and print your tickets

Seems like a generic email and code so I hope other OzBargainers will be able to use it.

EDIT: Seems like there's some problems from the mobile site but is working from PC

EDIT 2: New code provided by @lee5678 - AMEX

EDIT 3: @sharepoint has just provided me a new code — Metricon and it seems to be still working.

I thank Gerry for that excellent idea. It is the best freebie I got from him.

    • classic

  • Congraulations Giraffe you have crashed the Ticketek website haha

  • site under maitenance.. not working

  • +1

Maybe all the events have been sold out?

  • Yep, site dead, and I genuinely want to go!

    • +4

Just rock up to the venue and purchase your tickets at the gate. Or you may be able to find an ozbargainer scalping their tickets outside the venue.

      • I just got tickets now, even with the slowness of my internet!

  • Just got mine! Thanks!

  • Site is back.
    Got mine.
    Thanks.

  • Got mine! Awesome find thanks

  • great got tickets for all 3 days!

  • Got mine too! Thanks OP!

  • Hmm I feel bad for Cast and Gil now…….. I wonder if ticketek could track the tickets…

  • Thanks but what do I do with a double pass… I'm only one person!

    • Give it to someone about to purchase a ticket at the venue. Random act of kindness.

      • -3

I've thought of that before for anther events, but a friend said it was illegal and wrong. O.o

I'm imagining Ozbargainers in the food & wine expo like Homer Simpson at the Candy Convention.

  • +2

I doubt they would care really. Isn't the deal with these shows that you once you get inside, you have to pay for food/drink anyway? And that is ultimately where they make most of the money?

    • What?!? No free samples?

      • i've been to the open air one and the samples they give aren't really worth taking, basically just a shot of coffee or a sip of some drink. The stuff you actually want to try costs money, and it's not cheap. for two tiny lamb ribs, it's $8, a one inch cube of pork belly is $8, lamb skewer same price

        • +1

I went a few years ago and there was plenty to sample! I got nice and pissed off the wine tastings haha.

Yes, you do buy lots of stuff but you don't have to to enjoy the day.

        • +1

Trust me, a few years ago they were much more generous than now. WE had VIP tickets and got flap all except the VIP entitled us to use one of the sponsor lounge and 3 drinks. Everything else had to be paid for.

Just don't go there expecting plates of food for free, it's not like that at all

        • +1

I think you are thinking of the "Taste" festivals - "Taste of Melbourne", "Taste of Sydney" etc. - where a few of the big restaurants have 'tasting plates' available for purchase with the event currency (though they seem to accept cash). And yeah, most of those plates are $8-$12 for a tiny morsel, though if you go to some of the lesser known restaurant stalls it can be pretty decent. There are still smaller stalls giving samples but there are fewer and the restaurants seem to be the main event.

The Good Food and Wine Show on the other hand is mostly just stalls giving samples (and sales of course) of their products. There are a bunch of cooking classes and stuff as well - some free, others you have to book and pay for - but really it's about the free samples!
You won't get a full meal or anything like one in the samples but there is usually enough food going around to keep you happy. If you are a drinker though it really shines. Each wine sample is around 20-30ml, but if you sample 4 wines each booth, and there are around 30 wineries there (plus breweries) you should be happy enough.

And if you're feeling guilty for your free ticket, why don't people buy a few things if they really enjoy the sample?!

        • " for two tiny lamb ribs, it's $8, a one inch cube of pork belly is $8, lamb skewer same price"

sounds just like going to the restaurants themselves. Here's a plate of meat and some smeared sauce, and some leaves. 50$!!!!!

    • No… You don't have to pay for free samples of wine and drinks - I go every year and tickets are normally $35 or so.

  • Your purchase was successful!

never been this event before n thx for the great news~!

Hi OP - signed up just to say thank you :)

    • +1

I'm glad I could get one more person signed up :)

  • Got one. Thank u. Hopefully this is not a wrong advert

226 +ves in 4 hours. Well done, Giraffe.

  • Don't any of you feel awkward about taking this deal? It was not made clear how freely these coupons were being handed out. If Castran & Gilbert were handing them out like candy than no real issue with us skirting the rules.

However, this is unlikely as Castran & Gilbert is a small realtor in Toorak, Melbourne and these tickets are quite expensive. C & G most likely gave these free tickets to people who are their clients. Probably no more than 100 emails were originally sent out (prospective property buyers most likely). Now, they are getting slammed (4000+ clicks) from Ozbargainers who have nothing to do with them.

    • +11

Prospective property buyers in Toorak can go F themselves. They're the last people that should receive free tickets.

    • +2

What seems most likely is that there is a set number of free tickets and a number of companies with promos. So the people missing out will be the customers of any future promos, who may find none available. I don't think Castran & Gilbert will be paying for each ticket redeemed.

However, unfortunately I do not know any of the above for sure. In the end, ethically it's up to you.

So is food and wine included? Great deal if it is a bargain!

  • I think all tickets are gone. Got this message for Sydney on all 3 days.
Will try again later just to be sure.

Sorry, we're unable to obtain the ticket you requested. This is either due to Ticketek's allocation becoming exhausted since you got to this page as other customers may be in the process of completing their transaction on all remaining tickets, or the number of tickets you requested is greater than the maximum available adjacent seats. Please try again.

This is going to be an Ozbargain meet up.

There are other passwords from other companies and promos by TT for people to get free tickets. So I assume they have a set amount on how many "Free" tickets they have up for grabs from all their promo codes

  • Melbourne tickets are still alive and well, at least for the Sunday Session.

  • Thanks for the code!

We went last year but did not cough up the cash for the tasting area.

Had alot of fun viewing the rest of the activities.

    Can't wait for this years!

  • Just got some sydney ones for Sunday. Thanks.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Just got Sat Melbourne tix, so still working here too.

Mobile site still doesn't work properly, but full site does. Think it's due to mobile not prompting for delivery method.

  • Got some Melbourne ones for the Sunday night… thanks for the share !

  • I think this event should be free to begin with as I remember having to spend a fair bit just to get a decent amount to eat the one time I went.

Having said that, this is probably post of the year so far in my view (along with White Night).

  • Unfortunately I keep getting password invalid, am I putting something wrong?

  • Thanks so much.

  • I am getting "The password you have entered is invalid. Please try again."

  • Is this still working? I keep getting: The password you have entered is invalid. Please try again.

  • Password invalid - they've clocked on

  • It seems that Sydney is still working but Melbourne no longer works.

  • Thanks…managed to get a set, and my sister did too (I emailed her a link to this page)

All of those tickets are for Sydney on the Sunday

  • yep, Sydney works, but Melbourne code is invalid

    just my luck!

  • =( Melbourne one not working again….

  • Says the password doesn't work anymore is this expired?

  • Looks like they've changed the password, getting "The password you have entered is invalid. Please try again."

    :-(

  • +1

Had no issue getting a double for Sydney on Saturday, thanks OP :)

  • Same here

  • "The password you have entered is invalid. Please try again." for Melbourne, looks like it's expired…

  • Yeah,
getting the same issue for both Sydney and Melb… expired!

still a '+' for the awesome deal OP

  • Works for me, Sydney, Sunday

  • +3

got some… my wife got some for the Saturday in Sydney…

Anyone want to swap for a Saturday in Melbourne… just realised thatt the melb one is on @ the same time as our Jacob's creek long weekend away!

  • The code not working for me when I tried to purchase for the Sydney show. :(

  • it's all gone now!

  • +1

Just confirmed that both Melbourne and Sydney locations and all dates no longer work.

    Regards
    Daniel

  • Code doesn't work anymore. Invalid for all times and venues. Now the waiting game starts. If they don't let us go they'll have many many phone calls to make (around 12,000 or so). Or if they do, they'll probably be forced to introduce a decent fee for the tasting and samples.

  • I don't think it works anymore :( Got ozbargained.

  • Yep not working on any Sydney shows anymore :(

  • Sydney not working either

  • -4

oh well, I got tickets for Sydney, but I'm in Melbs!

    • +4

Don't waste the tix! Can I have them? :P

  • Damn, it's not working now. Would have loved to go. Oh well.

I was so disappointed when I found the other code expired, especially since I was one of the first to see this deal. So major kudos to you, my good friend!

    • Where on the ticket does it mention it admits 2x general admission?

      • +2

You will receive 2 separate PDFs. 2 tickets.
