  • How is it compare with the Pansonic ST50?

    • +1

ST50 has built in wifi, smart TV features, 3 HDMI inputs (vs 2 on the LG), and much better picture quality. I have one and love it, but the price of this LG is almost unbelievable. Go the Panasonic if you are a person who absolutely wants the best PQ, but for most people this LG would be fine. By the way the ST50 is MORE than double the price, $1289 at Big Brown Box, $1249 at Eljo…
Some more reasons why the ST50 costs more: awarded CNET TV of 2012:

      • Plasma is killing mother earth.
        etc etc etc

        bzzzzzzzzttt
thats the wrong answer, but thanks for playing..

        • I love it plasma tv for the 600hz super smooth motion flow. That is all it matters to me.

        • the computer you are using to make these posts is also killing the earth…
how about you cast the first blow and turn it off..

        • Why don't you write to the Green and ask if they win and subsidy for LED r&d to improve the motion flow performance and make them more affordable. Even better ask them to give away the mining tax to us for solar panels.

I'm using a phone that hardly uses any electricity.

        • -6

600hz is a fake gimmick anyway.

          to watch tv with it?

        • +1

Man, what is your game? You have spent the last few hours bagging plasma TV's, yet as per luke73's comment above you just bought a Samsung Plasma TV??? Are you trying to reduce the popularity of plasma's so they get even cheaper so you can buy more????

        • -1

yea buddy… you got me! I'm guilty.

          that was my plan..

        • Great work luke, you deserve a pay rise ;-)

No better way to prove jinny1 is a troll

  • ST50 is more than twice the price of this LG

    • +2

Yes I know but is it twice as good?

Waiting for 60" at that price :-)

      • +1

waiting for the ST50 to get cheap. Not gonna happen since Panasonic themselves are in low stock

  • +1

I remember when these were 10k..

Yeah Korea is becoming the new Japan… Samsung have a great reputation now, and Hyundai and Kia are sooooo much better quality than they were 10 years ago.

  • I called and got the last one on display, I think they might be all out.

  • I remember when…. when….

  • Not in a rush, so waiting for a 60'' at this price.

    • Wait 3 years? There is no way a 60 inch will be $500 anytime soon.

      • A year and a half ago, this would of been around $1000.

        • *Would have

        • Not in a rush, so waiting for a 90'' at this price

  • +1

What's the verdict on power consumption ?
Is it better to get led LCD for bit more ?

    • 5.5/6 stars on the unit I purchased. 500KW/h per annum.

    • I was pretty convinced to get this TV until I read it had LCD like blacks. It's a shame really because those blacks and lifelike colours are usually the reason people will get a plasma and get hit with an electricity bill rather than get LCD.

  • +1

crazy price. now everyone can have 50" tv on every room incl bathroom

    • +1

Can you rotate it to portrait and hang it on the door in the 'throne room'? Would it be to wide?

      • -3

Depends on how big your bog room is: in ours it would sit nicely on the wall opposite - could hook up the Android mini-PC and a webcam and give Omegle-tards a hell of a scare…

  • LG have a replacement model 50PN6500 shipping this month. Very similar specs. Go price $899/RRP $1099 You will NOT see any discounts initially, so if if you want a cheap $500 Plasma this is a good price.

  • No rush waiting for the 80 inch at this price..

    • I wouldn't be surprised judging by the prices for tv are these days.

    • @ Regie69.

I'll definitely purchase one of these for under $500. :)

  • How reflective is the screen?

  • +2

Exactly 3 years ago i paid $450 for a 22inch hd only samsung tv. Good thing it still works

  • Pair it with a Raspberry Pi running XBMC (or a WD TV Live Streaming media player), and it will virtually turn it into a smart TV.
Also, both the Pi(or WD TV) and this LG TV support HDMI-CEC, so you should be able to control the Pi/WDTV with the LG TV's remote control.

  • wow, a very good price!

  • +3

Will try bargaining today to get it for $480 delivered, plus a pack of 3-hour blank VHS tapes.

  • -1

    No rush… I'm waiting for a 7000" screen at $500.

    Mod: Personal Attack

I paid $400 for a 32" telly - at frackin' Aldi - a bit over a year ago. So sub-500 for 50 inches is stupendously good (as the actress said to the bishop).

(That said, I say the same things about SSD's when price thresholds approach: I refused to purchase any SSD >100Gb until a SATAIII 240Gb was under $200, but that threshold was passed months ago fnord).

  • -6

You get what you paid for $500 will give you crap quality TVs.

    This ain't worth $200.

    • +1

      You have used this TV?
Uninformed comments are certainly not of much worth!

Have had this model for 15 months & is certainly a very good (basic) unit, great value, with a good manufacturer's warranty - outlined in my post below about about free replacement due to rattle.

  • +2

Got one of these today, I can confirm it definitely has 3 hdmi inputs (1 on the back, 2 on the side) also has RCA, composite, VGA.

  • $80 less than the Chrissie deal at GG http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89040

15 months ago, LG supplied this model as a replacement for a previous $600 50" HD model (had a rattle at full volume) - pretty good service on the 11.5 month old TV.
Very happy with the unit, being used as a basic TV by my elderly Father.
This model was being sold out back then as it was old, so surprised it is still being sold.
A good basic unit without latest features - and good value for the price.

  • As for argument that LCD will last longer than Plasma - how many on OB want the same TV for 10-20 years? Plenty of Plasmas in daily use after 10 years. (Still waiting for my energy efficient 20 year old CRT TV to die. Also have 2 recent LG Plasmas.)

Good quality Plasmas lack the earler major issues (running very hot, burn in, very high energy consumption, etc), & perform great for a lower initial price. But work best in lower light situations.

If you run them almost constantly, yes factor in the higher running cost of Plasmas (electricity prices are rising). Consider your use before purchasing anything, to get best fit.

If you are worried about destroying Mother Earth - simple - don't buy any TV, vehicle, flight, or even use a computer to look up OB, etc. That will go down well with OBers!!

Seems like pointless arguments that get continually repeated here.

  • good deal but i will wait for 500" to be the same price…
damn it..if u need a tv & thts ur budget just buy the damn thing

  • Wish I needed another 50" Cant beat that Plasma PQ :(

  • I prefer Changhong 50 LED tv.

Panasonic is closing their Plasma factory .

  • TV are becoming so cheap…..

I was planning on selling my 4 years old 50" Plasma so I can upgrade to 3D TV.
how much am I gonna sell it for now????

may as well keep it for Skype Video….
    ..

  • As for me, it's a good deal, but nothing to new, but ok for most of its customers.
