  • Its not one of those chunky USB ones JB hifi had going towards the end of last year?

    • If it's the one that JB direct import sold for $68.30 shipped or thereabouts, it's certainly not one of the smaller units around, but great for back-up.

      • If it's the one that JB direct import sold…

From the pictures used, it should be the latest 'slim' model (STBX1000301). Which is 15mm 'thick'. This is the one where it is relatively easy to 'snap' open the case, and where the drive inside can be used in MacBooks and other computers (9.5mm 'thick' drive).

        EDIT:
Oh, and one can re-use the case with the drive being replaced.

        • won't they have warranty void stickers on the drive?

if u remove it the stick will need to be removed

        • won't they have warranty void stickers on the drive?

if u remove it the stick will need to be removed

No, there were no 'stickers' on the case, nor on the drive, that were broken when removing the drive from the case.

        • I have the jb hifi one (still sitting unopened) it was the chunky one and looks exactly like the package advertised here. Confused as to which is being referred to as the 9.5mm one?

      • what is the model code?

I can confirm that it is the one I gave in my post above.

I purchased one earlier this evening from OfficeWorks for $75.05

I am sure they will match their price with Dick Smith by tomorrow. So, no more 5% less than Dick's $79 price.

        • yup, OW have matched the price…went there this morning at 11am. Shelf price is $88 but scans at $79, no more price beat for today.

        • accidentally posted twice, pls delete, mods.

  • Damn it, impulse purchased. At least we can free up space on our laptop hard drives.

  • is this really a good deal?

is generally WD better quality than Seagate?

    • is generally WD better quality than Seagate?

Well, this Seagate has a three year warranty.

    • Yes

    • No

    • Maybe

  • Just bought one. Thanks a lot, LolwutMikka.

Free delivery saves me the trouble to travel.

  • thanks got a price match beat at OW for $75, tired to get myer buffalo which is also $79

  • Thanks, shame its not a pickup deal too as I kinda need it 'right now' :P Been wasting so much time waiting for copying stuff back & forth on USB2!

  • worth noting when mnfrs decline to mention the speed of a 2.5" mechanical, usually means its a 5400rpm. A better option would be something like Hitachi Touro Mobile Pro 1TB USB3.0 www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Hitachi+Mobile+pro… (from $90) which clearly states is using a 7200rpm drive. see http://www.hgst.com/external-drives/mobile/touro-mobile-pro

  • Neither the box or Seagate's website states that it supports Mac's, can anyone shed light on whether this hard drive is compatible with a Macbook?

    • +1

Just got Mac recently, but from my understanding all hard drives can work on Mac as long as they are reformatted into the FAT32 (for both pc and mac use) or the Mac native journal format.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I can confirm that it is - both as an external drive and as a replacement internal drive.

  • Office works has it for $79 as well now so they won't beat it by 5% anymore.

As I said last night. I knew this would happen, as they check prices twice a day.

Which is why I went to OfficeWorks last night in order to save $3.95 - as any true OzBargainer should have done.

      • Yeah just confirmed the price change in store at office works to $79 as well,, used staff discount to save $3.95 anyway. :)

Wish i has a staff card.

  • Does OfficeWorks revert the price back to $79 ?

  • Does OfficeWorks revert the price back to $79 ?

Huh? OfficeWorks will, no doubt, change the price back to $88 (from their present price of $79) when the Dick Smith special price of $79 finishes at 6pm this evening.

Most probably one could still buy at OfficeWorks for $79 from 6pm to 9pm tonight - and then the OfficeWorks price checking staff will put the price back to $88 tomorrow morning.

  • Really had to run and speed into OW next door when I noticed this post! Seagate 1Tb USB 3.0 3yr wty is really good. Was interested in a cheap 1Tb WD Passport drive for about the same price of AUD79. But this beats it hands down. Worked at Seagate a looooong time ago and know their product has been really good over the last 30 years on and off. ( failure analysis, reliability testing on their best product in those days )

  • Got my HDD today. Lovely packaging - they literally threw the hard drive into a giant box with NO padding or anything. It was rattling around like anything :(
