Had my s1 for over 2 years, dropped it many times. No cracks, no issues at all with the casing.

YMMV I suppose. My S3 digitizer cracked by itself without even droppping it. I complained on the Vodafone forums stating a phone that cracks by itself is a defect but so far I haven't been successful on getting them to repair it for me. I sold it off as damaged goods on eBay last week.

The issue seems to be S3 specific, so the comment should've been amended to say "Samsung Galaxy S3 phones".

I'm not dissuading you from buying the S3, but to be very careful with it. Don't put it in a place where you could easily sit on the phone by mistake and most importantly don't drop it.
The thinner the phone, the more prone it is to stress and cracking.

        • i have both s1 and s3 in my pants pocket all the time and i dont' use any screen covers or phone covers. (I find covering up my phone is pointless but hey, that's my opinion.)

would it surprise you that the S1 has been with me since it first got available on optus and S3 is still with me for a half a year now?
dropped both quite a few times too.

      • If you haven't drop any samsung phone then don't make false comment!
I use Samsung from Omnia Icon till S2, dropped them countless times with or without case, never has a screen problem. But from iPhone4 and above, cracking screen every where! (not the iPhone3, it's very durable because wrap by plastic!)
Recently I saw a S2 with both bottom corner missing, I can see the PCB inside! but the phone still working flawless. It's said that S3 not as tough as before though.

Yeah come to think if it I've seen heaps of cracked iphone screens but yet to see a damaged Samsung screen…

        • Im still rocking a galaxy captivate after 1 replacement screen with the new one just receiving a crack last weekend. It's in the way it drops, 1m high, face first onto gravel never works for any phone screen.

        • that's because there are heaps more of people using iPhones than Samsung…

according to statistics from which year? lol.

      • not sure if trolling…

      • Because the plastic is easy to deform it absorbs impact energy better

      • Should have a look at apple lol

$30 on a real phone, 380+ in my pocket. No wonder the world is falling apart.

      Yes…that is exactly why…

If you can have a small computer and phone in one that fits into your pocket that makes your life much easier, why not.

my life is not that difficult,to make it easier)
checking facebook not "on the go",but in the evening is not a big drama
if you are talking about GPS,web search etc. which can be really helpful sometimes, the 150$-200$ can do this job

what do you prefer? if the plastic body brakes and saves the guts of your device or if the aluminium body stays alive, but the hardware dies?

  • So did anyone make an order?

      • +1

I know of people who prefer the s2 over the s3 purely due to size. The s3 doesn't fit well in pockets - it's just too big.

  • This is back to $418 delivered btw

    • Wait, the 4G version is $418 delivered, the 3G is $369 + postage. My bad.
