Deals Direct are doing free shipping with paypal - see http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9727 and give it a positive! :D

I've been waiting for the free shipping so I can get the Shintaro Wireless Media Center Keyboard for $69.95 - http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/shintaro-wireless-media-cent…

It has media buttons and a built in trackpad for a keyboard/mouse combo in one. There are obviously more expensive Logitech and Microsoft ones out there, but I've been reading about this device and it seems to give the best bang for the buck if you're after a keyboard/mouse combo for your HTPC.

I know it's closely related to the other deal but just thought I'd let you guys know about it. Static Ice show it a bit cheaper but that doesn't factor in shipping. $70 is the cheapest I've found with shipping.

  • Here is the product page from Shintaro:

    http://www.shintaro.com.au/products/peripherals/SHKEYMCE/ind…

Yet it still does not have high-res image on the key layouts…

  • These are pretty good products… they feel solid and reliable - I haven't used one for very long but the range is very impressive - the 10m claimed is probably quite realistic. :)

  • I'll let you guys know what it's like when I get it.

  • Anyone know how it compares to this one?

    http://www.shintaro.com.au/products/peripherals/14SH-KEYREMO…

Also $69 from a retailer in South Brisbane.

    • I think it's a slightly earlier model but very similar from what I can tell. It has a trackball on the top right corner with the left/right mouse on the top left corner. I prefer a trackpad so that's why I went with the other one. If you google it, you'll find a couple of user reviews - both keyboards would be about the same I guess though.

  • Keeping a close eye on this one. My current logitech HTPC wireless combo doesn't work very well, its range used to cover 10m now it covers about 2m! So this could be the ideal solution. Also like the idea of touchpad built in, 1 less thing lying around the loungeroom. Keep us posted six!

This deal has 9 days to go or until stock lasts?

    • It's 9 days to go until the free postage deal for paying with Paypal @ Deals Direct expires. It would also be while stocks last.

Hopefully it'll arrive before the free postage deal expires so I can give a quick review.

  • Ah okay thanks. Yeah hopefully it arrives soon. I haven't ordered from DD for awhile but I do recall their shipping to be a bit on the slow side when I last dealt with them. If the clock ticks too close I might just buy one anyway as I can always use extra wireless keyboards around here. My main concern is the range, my logitech is useless now pretty much due to pathetic range.

  • +1

Just got it then and tried it on my laptop at work.

Install is dead easy - just insert USB receiver, sync the keyboard with the receiver and it's working. USB receiver is installed automatically in XP.

The touchpad is a tiny bit too sensitive but it works well. I slowed down the pointer in the mouse control panel and it worked pretty well after that.

What I didn't realise is that there are no backlit keys. Won't be a big issue for me but might be for some.

Keyboard feels solid, not cheap and sits on the lap nicely…there's actually two concave sections where the legs are supposed to go but they are pretty close together and meant for small people I think…I'm 6'6 and 100kg so not so good for me! :D

I could only test it from about 2-3m in my office. I went on angles and it didn't drop out once.

All in all, I'm very happy with it - highly recommended for a HTPC keyboard/mouse combo on the cheap!

I can upload a close up pic of the keys in anyone is interested.

  • Hi Stix, any extra pics would be great. Thanks for the mini review, looks like I'm buying one cheers.

  • Here is a recent review I did on the Shintaro Wireless Media Center Keyboard for a HTPC, running GNU/Linux Ubuntu Operating System:
