Dual 1000W Halogen Work Lights with Stand at Bunnings Only $29.85 Easter Special (VIC)

31

These are very powerful dual worklights that come with a stand. They are halogen lights and 1000 watt each.
I've seen them a Mitre 10 for $49.95 but at Bunnings they are $29.95 as Easter special (i asked the checkout chick and she said Victoria wide). I'm actually using them for a infinite white video studio effect so i bought 2 sets to get the infinite white background look like in the Apple commercials. It's not that hard to do. The lights are much cheaper than studio lights and the brilliant part is that they already come with their own stands so no need to buy extra tripods or Lampstands. The only downside is that the lights are a bit hot but they work well to blow out the background and then all you need is a smaller key light for the subject and a hairlight from the back and you have achieved that cool infinite white background look like Apple does. The video below probably explains it a bit better:

    wow… 3c cheaper than Masters…

    http://www.masters.com.au/product/900005489/halogen-floodlig…

That's their normal price… They used to be a bit cheaper when I bought some a few years back.

    • I guess it's $29.85 compared to a $1000 dollar studio light setting but I hear the lights don't last long as an ozbargainer commented so I might return them again.

  • This is definitely normal price, where did you get the idea it was an easter special?

    • they had bunny ears on the lights perhaps ?

      • Ooh hidden Easter eggs in the box

  • Aldi 24.95 and supercheap 29.95

  • I bought some of these from Mitre 10, years ago, way back when the Cammeray store still existed (actually, that's a pretty explicit betrayal of my age, 'cos I'm too young to remember that location as a really really really dodgy pub, and too old to remember it as some sort of housing development rubber stamp 'community' thing)…

anyway, I digress… I bought those. Got them home. They lasted, literally (on average) ten minutes. (one blew in five minutes, the other in fifteen). Dunno if it's the fitting or the globe or some combination, but they're utterly dodgy and short-lived…

    • You probably touch the globes with oily hands. Not suppose to touch the filament with hands as that is what will happen. Anyway although this is a normal price, if you in the market for some lighting really think about how much you need. 1000W is going to add up pretty quickly is used for long periods. That why i went for a 250W single light with a floor stand.

I probably took the whole shebang out of the box and set it up and turned it on without ever touching the globes with anything, actually.

        • the tubes aren't shipped installed as they can pop out of the spring-loaded holder. The tubes would be in their own separate boxes, covered with bubble wrap.

The filament is quite fragile, so if they're moved too much when they're on, they'll blow prematurely. That, and touching with bare hands..

  • I'm after these in a led anyone know where to get?

    • Stupidly bright ones in LED… yeah… actually, I bought some from a Chinesian bloke in Rhodes (Sydney, NSW) a few months ago… The particular one I got was a spotlight, an array of 2 x 6 x 3W LEDs IIRC… ridiculously bright and not a whole lot of money. Give me a minute and I'll try to find some details…

OK, a bit more than a couple of months… July 2012… Anyway, the guy I got them from was seller 'wdfour' on eBay. Nice bloke, had no trouble meeting face-to-face and sussing out exactly what I needed. eBay item number 110915137317 for example, about ten bucks cheaper now than when I got it… and he also had massive ones, 60cm, 75cm wide, on the way, and also single 3W modular things that could be bolted together in as many as you wanted. It's certainly worth looking him up.

        • thans for the info are they superbright

  • The same price at Bunnings NSW

ALDI have some of these for $25 at the moment

  • Would only use these if desperate…the power they chew is just under having your kettle on/& boiling

    • strictly speaking it's less than half the power of a boiling kettle, which are generally around 2.2kW. No one likes a slow-boiling kettle. :)

These lights are so inefficient that they make excellent heaters too!
