I came across this model while I was searching in eBay, and the price was definitely above 85$ at any case. With all air-coolers sold out in Harvey Norman, and this one with shipping free is definitely a steal !! Remember to use the Coupon if you are buying using Paypal. And there are 2 colors, grey and white !

  • hey is this cooler any good?

Evaporative coolers are terrible, in a lot of circumstances they will actually increase the humidity leaving your room feeling a lot hotter than before.

You constantly have to change the ice tray / water tank amongst other problems. Put simply, if you live in an area with high humidity to begin with and high temps, these will do nothing. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler#Disadvantage… for a more technical answer.

We sell these at work and I have a lot of customers wanting to return them simply because they just don't help the situation. Of course they must work in some environments because they wouldn't sell them otherwise.

My advice is to invest in a powerful pedestal fan or a portable air conditioner.

Yes, evap' coolers are the LAST thing you'd want in a climate that has humidity in summer, but they're brilliant in the hot/dry conditions experienced in VIC/SA and just about anywhere inland. You've only got to drive through any country town (QLD included), and see all the "hay bale" evap' cooler hardware on the rooves.
They cost practically nothing to run (certainly when compared to compressor type A/C), though it could be a pain having to constantly refill the tank on portable units.

  • I just bought one - hope it works in Canberra!

  • I just got mine 2 days after ordering.. Pretty happy with the service, a lot speedier compared to past orders.

Cooler works well, haven't put any ice in yet but for 60 dollars this was an awesome bargain!

I cleaned it like 3 times before I was happy with it though, the air smelt plasticly(sp?) when i put the first lot of water through it. I've had it running all day and the water level hasn't hardly moved. So not a huge hassle having to fill it up either.

I'm in the ACT if that makes any difference.
