      The guy I spoke to said, cash back is based on Model numbers. So if the model is on the cash back list its eligible.

      Then I asked, how about the SN Sticker that usally comes with the new box ? (we need the sticker to claim cash back)

      He said, refurbished products will also get the sticker.

    Although it is refurbed, you would assume that you get a box and manuals, etc….

    Also, they must supply you a serial number for warranty purposes…warrnaty does apply to refurbs…

    Worse comes to worst, I can always return it…Shipping will be less than $25…so I am willing to gamble $25 for $159…

      Nothing on website or Acer cash back program PDF states that refurbished products are NOT eligible.

      If they do not honor the cash-back, you should return the product on that grounds.

    Watch out, the memory is NOT upgradeable. For me, 4GB is definitely not enough - might be okay for some though.

    you could try this one for $539 less 15% less a further $79 cash back if eligible. Only $379. Thats about as cheap as I've seen it.

    I received the laptop today, they gave me a Lite-on adapter instead. In the windows, it says "plugged in, not charging". so i assume it would be the adapter issue.

    Emailed them with pictures and hoping to get reply back soon.

    EDITED: saw some youtube videos, some of them come with Lite-on adapter.

      Mine arrived today as well, with some generic Chicony power adapter. Damn nice laptop, refurbished but definitely good as new. Now I just have to do the cashback thingy but I'm missing the product box barcode as well as the tax invoice. Maybe the order form is enough and a scan from the bottom of the laptop… Sent a query about this already.

        The SNID required is supposed to be 8 or 11 digits. I found a S/N on the side of the brown box which is 11 digits so I registered that, and have printed out the Aspire S3-951-2464G25nss $159 Cashback (N931)eGift Voucher Claim Form.

        I will also print out the invoice I was emailed. If that is not enough, well then that sucks because I don't have the proper box, and that is Acer's outlet's fault.

        Wish I could know if it will be OK without having to wait 8 weeks.

        Other purchasers, please update this page with any more info.

        PS After switching to a macbook air for the past 9 months, I would recommend getting a used MBA 2011 from Gumtree over the Acer S3. No backlit keyboard, the screen is so obviously crappier in all respects, and the trackpad sucks. I really hope I can get my rebate because it's not worth $600 IMHO.

    Received mine this morning - mine was from the second "batch" that became available.

    Mine was in an original, unopened retail box (complete with "proper" SNID on the box). Haven't had a chance to look at what's inside, but it seems to be a completely new laptop.

    My Aspire S3-951-2464G34iss shipped without a charger.
    Or a tax invoice.
    Customer service is polite though slow, and does not give any guarantee or definitive timeframe to remedy the problem.
