Bing Lee have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 ,7inch 8GB WIFI ONLY
Silver and White Listed at $188 but the item comes up $158 at checkout
So who knows if they intend it to be $158 or $188
Anyway its either a great deal or a big mistake
I prefer the Galaxy 2 to the NEXUS purely because you can add up to 32GB SDHC card (possibly 64 GB)

I see the Same price discrepancy still exists

Only the Galaxy Note 10.1" supports 64GB I think. The Tab 2's only support up to 32GB. Oh please put it as the 7' model.

    • the previous tab 1 supports 64gb card

    • Oh please put it as the 7' model.

      Damn, 7 foot; now that's a big tab… :)

  • Free shipping

Nice price, but I'd still get the Nexus 7 for $30 more. Quadcore JB (and beyond) makes a big difference vs. dual core. I didn't believe it until I upgraded…

    • +1

Agree, But the Samsung Tab 2 7 inch is a top tablet and I think $160 is a price which most people would pay for a 7inch Tablet

      • +1

It wasn't so long ago that folks were happy to pay this price for import China tabs…for a major brand name at a B&M retailer it's pretty darn good IMHO!

        • +1

Import China tabs are moving in leaps and bounds. You'll soon be able to get a quad-core, 7" tab, 1280x800 IPS with GPS and phone functionality along with 5000ma battery for US$160. http://www.gizchina.com/2013/04/02/no-1-minipad-android-ipad…

        • Is it out yet? The article doesn't say where to buy

        • No. 1 Minipad- I want one.

    • I used two Nexus 7, it's quality is not as good as Samsung S/S2, I don't have any Samsung android tablet yet but I assume they are same as their phone.

      • What is the fluidity like on tab 2 if I upgraded to JB?

    • +1

      Where can I get a nexus 7 for $188?

  • nice deal cheers

  • The correct price is $158. Binglee has just corrected the listing:

<3 Bing Lee and the OP

Thank you! My mum is going to love me so much more when she receives this for her birthday :)

  • +3

On special at HN for around $60 more lol

    • -1

In that case, what would a professional do ?

  • Thanks, will try and get JB hifi to price match so i can use some gift cards. :)

  • This does have call functionality which the Nexus 7 does not btw, if that matters to you. And it's a fraction of the cost of a Galaxy Note II

    • Isn't that only for the 3G model or do all Galaxy Tab 2 have the ability to make calls?

EDIT: Ahhh, via wifi hotspot.. I get what you mean

  • +1

well, I'm rather waiting for 3 months,

did you guys read the news?

Google has set a high target for the second serving of Nexus 7 come its rumoured release date on July 2013: For the Android tablet to sell eight million units by the end of the year.

  • just bought two! thanks :)
    it'll be great presents!!

  • -7

Very tempting, but waiting for iPad mini 2 & iPad 5

    • I thought Apple didn't like people putting a number after their iPads?

      • It'll be the new new iPad.

        • It'll be the new new iPad.

No, the A6 lightning cable one which they call "iPad with Retina Display" is the new new iPad.

iPad5 would have to be called New New New iPad, or something equally silly (Retina display? Is that implying new iPad / iPad 3 does not have a Retina Display?).

  • +13

me too, waiting for iPad mini 14 and iPad 21 , they should be sweet!

    • +1

Yeah got one on order as well but not sure I can wait till 2023

    • +3

Pffft Apple need to do some real innovation like putting the 'i' on the end. PadI now there is something i would buy.

  • Thanks OP. i bought it too as my Dell streak 7 is dying.

  • Thanks..got one in White.

Here is the link for the White one.

great price! worth a purchase for sure. if only this was the 7.7 though. quick search reveals the 7.7 can't be had for <$400 at the moment :(

    • I was really impressed by the 7.7. Why is this tab so hard to find/so expensive? I thought maybe its the banned tab as it was too like the iPad (thin, aluminum etc) so rather than dig them into a hole they had ebgames sell them for 200 a pop, but this is just my theory

      • +2

You can quite literally thank Apple for the lack of 7.7 availability…AFAIK it was the European ban that crippled that particular product line, because apparently any rectangular tab just looks too much like an iPad.

I grabbed one in the EB Games runout, best ~$200 I've spent in ages! :)

  • +1

Instan buy from me!!! edit if it had 3G!

  • I'm waiting for the note 8.0 3g version. Shame about the price of it though.

  • Great deal

  • +3

Very tempting! But I don't NEED it :(

Believe me if I didn't pay for plane flights this week I'd do it.

  • +1

Thank you OP - I did not want to wait until mid next week or later for delivery so…

I printed out the page off the BL website and bought one at Officeworks for $150.10 ($7.90 price guarantee)

    • Ditto. Thanks Op. Not sure why but had to go and buy one.

    • did a OW online by phone price match for a white one.. $150.10 = :-D (OW online list price $229)

  • bought one.

  • Thanks OP! Bought one at Officeworks North Sydney for $150.10. They have it on display for 178. Did not need one but good deal for what it is imho.

  • Hrrrm, very tempting, whats this like watching videos?

  • +2

This thing is noticeably slower than the Nexus 7. If you have used a Nexus 7 you will be disappointed.

    • How about with the JB upgrade? does it reduces the lag?

    • Thanks for that, you helped me decide not to buy!

  • Good deal! Samsung Deal is always my favorite. Now, Go ahead!

  • Just bought one as well from Office Works. $150.10 (10c for the bag).

Not a bad little unit. Got an iPad 1 so will see how ths turns out.

  • went into my local bing lee and picked it up for $150 each instead!!!

    • NICE
      I don't have a local anymore
      :(

  • Very good price, but I prefer the 10" one..
Any recent deal for the samsung 10", if anyone know? Thanks.

  • Just bought this case to match the tab.
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290836…
Learnt from my previous case for my acer 10" tab to get one that protects the corners as that is the area most susceptible to damage when dropped. Hope this case will do the job.

Anyone else got this bluetooth keyboard with aluminium shell?

This one is ABS plastic shell

    Anyone have the keyboard?

  • Installed root access.. clockworkmod.. and have tried a couple of custom ROM's running latest Android 4.2.2 but have not found one I am happy with yet (I run LiquidSmooth on my phone which is very nice).

Screen resolution is far lower than I am used to on my phone (Samsung Note2 5.5") or ipad, but for $150 I guess that is expected - I had almost forgotten what pixels look like.

The screen colours are a bit dull, and had to increase the brightness to 80%+ to look decent.

    • Does it runs well on android 4.2.2? is it sluggish?

      • No, in fact it seems a lot faster (many custom ROMs are optimised for speed and battery life), and without all the preloaded Samsung stuff installed.

Its not as fast as my Samsung Note phone, but then that runs at 1600 Mhz stock, and I have allowed it to clock up to 1800 Mhz under demand, which is much faster than this 1000 Mhz tablet.

        • Just installed XBox MediaCentre onto the tablet.

It struggled a bit streaming 720p video over wifi, but played standard def content fine, and I am sure it will play 720p and maybe 1080p content from internal storage OK.

      • I installed 4.2.2 on mine and it is a lot better than stock. I highly recommend to update.

        • Do you mean a custom 4.2.2 rom? If so, which one?

So many custom roms to choose from. Hard to distinguish which one to install to get the best performance out of this tablet.

          Any suggestions?

        • Yep its the custom ROM. Baked Blackbean. Very impressed with how smooth it is compared to the stock ROM.

        • Thanks Saiya.

Will need to test this ROM out once I get a bit of time figuring out how to flash it.

Last thing I installed a custom ROM on was my original Galaxy S phone and that was some time ago now. Hope it's as easy I remember it.

        • If you install the Goo Manager app from the app store, you can browse a range of ROM's suitable for the hardware its running on (and it checks for updates), and it helps flash it for you.

picked up 4 units at local bing lee store for 155 each, going overseas soon to claim GST back, well done bing lee.

local bigW refused to match bing lee online price, said they match instore price only.

    • can you claim gst on each or just total of $300?

just want to see if it will allow more than 1 $300 limit…..

      • Yes you can combine them together
All they want is the receipt of $300 & over.

  • Does jbhi accept pricematch? If so ill head there right now

  • +3

Went to OW and was so close to buying one but the staff were busy and in that time I decided I didn't NEED it. Hmmm …

  • sold out

    • white ones are still in stock when I just checked (11:15pm).

  • In this price range is there anything better for normal web browsing, apps and DivX?

Is there any new models coming out soon in this price range?

    • Really? New model for this price? Why would anyone want to buy this if the new ones are going to be cheaper?

    • Current N7 when the new one gets announced in may.

  • There are white ones left and only a couple hours left. Now I'm thinking of getting this again. Can anyone convince me either way???? PLEASE!!!!

  • Damn, i couldn't resist, I bought one

  • Bought one and must say that form factor is nice as i own a tab 2 10.1 and always thought 7' would be too small. I only think reading on the 7' might still be a pain. Also on the bus or waiting for a bus etc the 7 is perfect as the 10.1 is a bit too bi looking and people can see me watching family guy lol. Only thing i dislike about the 7 is the screen seems pretty crap, some what green/blue tinted all the time compared to the 10
Cranking the brightness sort of gets rid of it bit hey i bought it purely fpr watching stuff on the bus etc and listening to podcasts. All in all$150 was a decent buy and i wont need an upgrade for years as it will be used for basic stuff. HOpe everyone is enjoying theirs.

  • Can't wait for the delivery. I thought I would get it within 1 week but have been advised that will not be possible. I have cancelled the order. Ridiculous turn-around in this day and age.

  • anybody got there's shipped as yet?

    • Shipped today with TNT.

  • I got mine price matched through officeworks as i wanted it for the weekend. Ive used binglee before, normally i get stuff after 8 days so i wouldnt be too worried.

    • yeah we dont have bing lee in WA, so no one would price match, had to buy off website.

Oh well just sit and wait, prob good cause waiting on tab accessories of ebay.

      • Im in SA and not binglee here. What you do is get OW to price match and beat by 5%. They will do it no matter what Australian online store you found it at a better price aslong as they have stock. Also they will take into account any shipping costs involved.

So for example as this was $158 which was cheaper than my local OW they beat it by 5% and made it $150.10 and as binglee offered free delivery i dobt gwet OW putting on any extra charges. So really i got it for $150.10, have it instantly and have local warranty. Your welcome young one :)

  • What's some must have accessories besides otg cable, case & car charger?

  • My Tab arrived today but only one of the two I ordered.

I thought the courier screwed me over but the invoice is only for one and the shipping label is 1 of 1 parcel… I contacted Fastway couriers and they confirmed only one parcel was to be delivered but Bing Lee sent a delivery confirmation for 2. I can't contact Bing Lee yet as their call centre is shut until 9am.

    Anyone else missing a tab?

  • +2

Not sure if anyone is still reading comments on this bargain, but this might help someone.

I installed PAC-ROM custom software on this device (link below) and with a couple of minor tweaks it has made a massive difference to the tablet experience.

    1) under the "Performance Control" menu, change max speed to 1,350 Mhz (instead of stock 1,000 Mhz).

Makes the tablet much, much faster. And because it only runs at the higher speed under heavy load, it does not affect the battery life much.
Note, DO NOT select higher than 1,350 as it is not stable. Select the option to set 1,350 Mhz on boot.

    2) under the "Hybrid Properties" menu choose one of the bottom three 85 or 108 DPI options (instead of stock 160dpi).

This makes it feel like a higher res screen tablet, fitting much more info onto the screen.

    • I'm certainly still reading comments on here and thanks for recommending Goo Manager. Never knew something existed on the market that can manage/install roms straight from the phone. Like I said, it's been a while.

Ideally, I would like to backup the stock rom (and have the option of recovering it if needed for warranty purposes), before installing a custom rom.

Was intending to use this guide:

      http://android.sc/how-to-root-the-galaxy-tab-2-7-0/

So it's install CMW first, root phone, backup stock rom and then install Goo Manager to download/flash custom roms?

      Any advice is appreciated.
