By comparing to amazon US, i found it is like $500 cheaper, not sure it is worthy or not but i think this is a bargain. It is actually sold by 3rd party on Amazon Italy. The price of this headphone keep going down since it was introduced, may be due to its expensive price tag.

can't justify the price unless it gives me superpowers…

    • +2

Even it gives u superpowers, u still need super ears.

But why would you buy a Ferrari over a Hyundai?

        • +1

$1000 for these headphones? Starting to wonder whether some of us here have too much money to spend now…No offense to the poster though. Thanks.

Law of diminishing returns scales differently for people. There are audiophiles out there that would fork out an extra grand for the Audeze LCD 3 just because they 'perceive' it to be better by about 5-10%.

        • And some people think a $2 earphone does the job just fine…

    • +2

not if you use this directly with iphone

Do you guys really think these are any better than Beats Solo's?

good work, 3 people got trolled :)

beats are definitely better than these, dre and other top musicians use them, it says it right on the pack….

Will something like this bring out the best of my thousands of mp3 files on my 2gb USB drive?

    • +6

It most definitely will. It will teach you the importance of using high quality bit rates and possible even better containers for storing your music. I'm sure you can get a 64gb memory stick on here quite cheap.

    • +3

It will teach you the importance of a specialised headphone amplifier costing upwards of a thousand dollars.

    • Save your money and go for the Beats Solo.

  • Beats Solo = 85% mark up, welcome to the consumer society, partake or get left behind. cheers

PS: honestly do you think Stephanie Rice looked "cool" "happy" wearing those BUTT ugly headphones as she was walking to her take off pad at the London Olympics?

    • And the Senns's dont have any?

Most headphones cost more in marketing than parts.

If you are serious about headphones, read up. head-fi.org

As someone with a head-audio interest, I'd rather own a few well-reviewed sets than 1 super-expensive set I'd never auditioned.

  • +1

you can get them local for this price, and try them out before you buy them.

edit; don't forget to get a decent amp for these.

  • i'm sure they're great headphones… but they do cost a lot of dosh..

  • +2

probably not worth it - it's going to incur GST + stamp duty (as it's above $1k AUD). customs will check it and they will only release it to you once you've paid GST + stamp duty (if i'm not mistaken: GST is charged on top of the item + stamp duty; stamp duty = 6% or something on the item + shipping costs)

Addicted2Audio is selling it for around the same price ($1699 + free shipping australia wide): if you're nice and lucky you might be able to get a better deal from them in person, when the store owner George is in (which i did! :) )

    http://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/Sennheiser-HD800-Audiophil…

these are by far the best cans i've tried - was a bit sceptical at the start (thinking there is no way i'd spend >$1k on cans), but when i put them on… i just thought: take my money already!

    • I've met George, very nice guy, though I didn't ask for a better price when I bought the Burson Audio amp - should have now I think back lol.

Usually these overseas sellers will split the cost of the product, so what you end up with are 5 invoices making up the total price. This way they and you don't have to pay extra customs fees.

    • If the correct price is declared, you will only pay the 10% GST on the cost of the item. Not sure where you're getting the stamp duty idea from.

      • No he's correct, you pay more than GST, I think yimp meant to say customs duty rather than stamp duty, customs duty is 5%, and added onto the price, GST is then charged after adding on 5% and shipping fees.

    Not a bargain, http://www.meier-audio.homepage.t-online.de/

I paid around 1k for mines from meier, you can also bypass the 10% tax if u ask nicely.

Edit: Forgot to mention, thats 1k including shipping

    • Did you pay $1k for the HD800s? How long ago was that? I am looking into a headphone + amp combo.

      • Yep 1k including delivery

    $1474 + $49.95 shipping here. There's another couple that are sub $1,500+shipping

Edit: Are you sure your price is correct? Over $1K should attract GST on import, making it quite a bit more.

  • +1

As above, this is not a bargain, especially considering local price is the same, why would you bother with Amazon Italy, customs, etc.?!

    • +1

To support Berlusconi's romp parties….uhh… the italian economy?

  • Also worth noting for whoever is interested (and is patient) I have seen them popping out occasionally on gumtree for <1k, and can probably be had on Head-Fi buy\sale forum for ~$1100, e.g. (good for Sydney folks!):
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/658224/fs-sennheiser-hd800-mint-ser…

I believe the <$1k is usually due to some loaded folks (miners?) that bought them not understanding what they are buying (or the amp requirements) and then sold them off at half price (there was a guy trying to flog his at Gumtree Perth for a couple of months).

    • Or they upgraded to the LCD 3's

      • Well "upgrade" is a big word in this context… but what I meant is that it seemed to me some people bought them without knowing anything about them, I doubt they upgraded to LCD3 - you'd have to be in the know to know, right?

    • Geez!!! is that a cable selling for $820?!?!?!?!?!?

      • +1

Yeah I was thinking of grabbing a couple :)

        • +1

Ha ha I think you'd get kicked out of this site if you even clicked the Add to Cart button…

  • I already own the T1.. anyone know if these are much better sounding?

  • plus another 1k for a schiit bifrost and a lyr

  • What no mic for xbox gaming?

    Pass

  • What $1690 for the headphone ?…
is it made of gold or something ???

    • No but they do come with a pair of golden ears…
