  • This is actually temping to get my girlfriends who's constantly complaining about her Samsung Galaxy S being crappy (it is kinda crappy, like my HTC Desire HD)

    This phone is unlocked right?

    • yep, it's unlocked

No offense, but they were like at least 2+ years old phones. You need at least 1GB internal ram and dual core cpu to do things more smoothly on a phone these days.

      • +1

Unlike the phones your discussing, this one actually has a good OS so it wont suffer from general use performance issues like other phones.

      • i wat refering to the galaxy S and Desire HD.

        • I was referring to your comment on 1GB ram and DC

    • Partners complaining about phones seems to be common. I'm also seriously considering this for the similar reasons.

    • +1

The only think to note about this is the 512mb ram, although it wont make the phone it self run slow some apps may not run on it (Depending how app hungry you are)

1GB is the min for 100% marketplace support however there is only a hand full of apps/games etc which actually require more than 512mb

Most you will see have since been updated to show support for the 512mb series of phones as theres a lot more of them on the market now (One key example is Asphalt 7 which is a new release game which recently updated to support 512mb ram handsets )

    • My HD from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66255 is still going good, but i got the missus one at the same time and it has trouble 'thinking' sometimes

  • CAMERA Primary 5 MP, 2592х1936 pixels, autofocus
    Features 1/4'' sensor size, geo-tagging F2.4

Anyone have any reviews of the camera, wonder is the 1/4" sensor size is better than average?

    • +1

1/4" is definitely the worst I've seen in a smartphone.

A normal smartphone camera is 1/3.2" (almost every iPhone and Android phone)
      HTC One is 1/3.0"
      Nokia N8 is 1/1.83"
      Nokia 808 is 1/1.2"

  • the 512 ram is offputting but rest of package is good priced.

    • +1

windows phone requires a lot less ram than android so it should be enough

    • +2

I wouldnt touch an android phone with less than 768M. But agree no issue for WP8, reports are this phone is fast, wonder if it would qualify for WP9?

    • The only issue is some of the higher end games/apps wont install on this handset however the list is very small

I know i say it for every Harvey Norman deal but 'WELCOME5' for another $5 off.

Edit: scrap that, code doesn't seem to be working anymore.

Did you + your own deal
    Op?

    • +4

You always + your own deal. It's automatic.

    • Like johnno07 say, it's automatic. It makes sense, since you wouldn't be posting something unless you think it's a bargain. And you can't even remove the + later on if you found out it wasn't as good as you thought.

Unless you are a Rep for a deal, then you can't + that deal.

  • Oh also….when is this going to be available?

  • +3

It's already released in China at about similar price. Feedback from someone in a girls forum, yes we discuss about topics other than makeup and handbags ;)
    - Smooth O.S.
    - good looking, very comfortable to hold it in hand
    - all the covers are matt including yellow and red
    - Screen is very sensitive can be operated by keys or with gloves (didn't realise it also has the high sensitive screen)
    - Screen resolution is low (800X480) but is quite clear, glares a lot though may need anti-glare screen protector
    - Battery consumption is not bad, e.g. charged full the night before, still full in the morning, 76% left by the end of the day after 1 hr of music, 40 mins of call and 30 mins of reading
    - Not so good on camera, music and video but usable

  • when will it ship

  • Good price. Note that there are two variants - one that supports the 850 MHz 3G band and one that supports the 900 MHz 3G band. Harvey Norman doesn't mention which one they're selling, so definitely worth checking with them first. I tried submitting an enquiry via their contact form, but it keeps breaking.

    • +1

Finally heard back from Harvey Norman. They're selling the 850 MHz variant.

  • Nokia Lurnia 520 vs HTC 8S, they have almost similar spec, but which one would you choose?

I was looking at review on GSM arena, and it seems Nokia got better feedback rating vs HTC. hmmmm

    • 520 has 8GB storage vs. 8S' 4 GB.

    • +1

For the low end handsets, Nokia is your best bet

  • Needed a phone for my Father in law who is moving to USA next month.
Will this phone work in USA for sure?
From my research I found that for a phone to work in USA it needs to be a Quad Band phone.

    Can some one please confirm?
