  • can anyone give us any review about refurbished asus products please?
i know that refurbished apple products are as great as new one but how about Asus?

    • +1

I grabbed one last time. It looks just like a brand new one, but doesn't come with the original packaging.

I now have a very small hairline scratch on mine, so you should probably get a screen protector too. I only got mine a few weeks ago btw, but I'm quite happy with it otherwise.

I got one of the 16GB refurbs through an ebay auction a while back, and if someone told me it was new I would have beleived them. Looked compeltely new. I guess differnt refurbs will have different cosmetic issues, but would doubt it would be anything significant. Just my experience, others may be different.

I think someone was concerned that someone may have watched adult videos on it before them, I guess you could run a UV light over them to be sure if it was a concern.

      LOL!

      Damn, I knew I should've deleted the bookmarks! :P

      • and used wipes instead of tissues!

I couldn't any reviews for these guys … do some research before handing over the $$

  • I want to get rid of my 16GB refurb. Nothing wrong with it, I've charged it twice in total, otherwise it's sat on my desk doing nothing, I really have no use for tablets.

If you miss out on this deal, or want to buy it slightly cheaper, all reasonable offers will be accepted. Apologies if I can't do this here.

    edit: 2.5ish months old.

Bought a refurbished Asus Nexus 7 a while ago from an Ebay auction, Looks brand new and no problems whatsoever.

  • Not having a laptop, just a desktop (cos I play vidya gamez), I find the nexus really useful, I usually stream shows and stuff on it in the lounge, watch stuff in bed, play angry birds in the loo.

    • +4

I'm replying to you whilst on the crapper!

      • +5

in this case play angry birds may be a euphemism for saying hi to Mr Hanky

    • Bloodsport!!!

  • bought one thanks for posting op.

I got up to checkout then noticed that the CC entry page didn't have SSL or any security for that matter. Pass.

  • A good 7" Android tablet and Google keep this device checked whenever there is OS update. I got this tablet from other site and it's a refurb as well, but in pristine condition just as new. No battery problem so far (3+ Months), this tablet easily rooted and tweaked with variety of custom ROMs out there.

  • damn. didnt noticed that. went and bought with cc anyway.

    • +2

I'm guessing someone sees your CC in plain text then manually deducts the credit card like how they did it in restaurants in the 90's and earlier. No reputable bank would facilitate receipt of online payments without SSL right?

Can anyone who is more qualified in security confirm?

Edit: it appears contributers also noticed this in the previous deal

      • onebutters. My post lower down confirms CC details are exposed in plain text over the internet for anyone in the path to intercept.

Bought a brand new one from JB HIFI on feb (16 GB wifi only for $249, after a week i started seeing online and binglee were selling for $50 less). Anyway yesterday it switched off itself and never turned on. Went to JB HIFI and swapped for a new one today. The guy told me there has been a few similar problems with the tablet before and they'll send it to ASUS but next time i will have to contact ASUS myself.

Anyway those returned products comes as a refurbished on sale. Mine was in good condition so whoever gets mine would be happy. This would only be one example of the common fault, there could be many.

    • +10

"… but next time i will have to contact ASUS myself."

Rubbish. You bought it from JB, your contract is with JB and they are obliged to handle warranty issues if you request it. Sometimes it may be quicker to go through the manufacturer if they have a good warranty program available to end users, but such a blanket statement is pure poppycock.

      • +2

Yeah, never fall for this, under the new laws I'd expect they'd have to fully resupply you with one if it was not your fault, for about a year from original purchase date. Don't ever listen to the whole "you need to contact _____ yourself" spiel.

        • +2

My printer stopped working a few weeks ago and I went to JB to claim warranty. They want me to pay extra because the same printer model wasn't available and claimed that the new model was more expensive. I refused and after waiting got it without paying.

        • Thanks for the info mate, will keep that in mind.

        • +1

Exactly guys, never fall for the retail blabber. I bought a Nexus 7 32GB a few months ago and I returned it 4 times before finding one without a dead or stuck pixels.

Dick Smith in the city were pretty awesome, returned it every time. However, the one in Altona Gate said oh I have to return it to ASUS, after I explained how stupid he was, he got me a new one from the back. Only returned it once here as it was close to the weekend and not in the city the next day.

      • Thanks for the info mate, will keep that in mind.

[edit] See my post lower down. Ordering from CFONLINE and paying by CC will expose your CC details to potential theft.

I'm at the step to enter my credit card and the site is NOT in https mode. Not going to send my CC over the internet without being protect by https. No sale.

Honestly very disappointed a site would have a credit card form and not be https.

    • .

  • they use eway.com.au payment gateway.

[edit] See my post lower down. Ordering from CFONLINE and paying by CC will expose your CC details to potential theft.

Yes they do but the CC details are taken on the cf site site while not in https.

  • I previously bought a 16GB Nexus 7 refurb from the previous eBay offer, and it had a glitchy screen (multi-coloured vertical bars all over) from the moment I opened the box. I had no issues exchanging it for another refurb which works fine, but I still have to wonder how thoroughly some of these refurbs have been checked before being sold…

  • Thanks! Needed a nice tablet to view websites. Good timing. =]

I just checked. Ordering from CFONLINE and using your credit card will expose your credit card to potential theft of your CC details.

    http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/465/cfonlineexposecc.png

In this image you can see the POSTed data contains my CC details in clear text and is sent to the cfonline website over a http connection.

How good is your credit card number. It must be easy to remember.

    • terrible

    • +1

That's pathetic. Why wouldn't they just use PayPal instead of trying to do their own credit card payment system. Surely eway.com.au would tell them how to implement their payment system properly

      What a fail.
Centralfield Technology "Need IT Support? We Provide Professional Services". No you don't, you're a pack of idiots.

No bargain whatever the price, if there's a chance you'll have your credit card details stolen. Even if the credit card company pays you back for any losses, there's still the hassle of getting new cards, and the stress.

Big +1 for covert doing the research on this one.

  • +5

why buy a refurbished one for $30 less then a new one. am i missing something here

    • +12

Is this a trick question? You're missing $30

  • +1

    Just bought one, thanks OP.

But WTF, they don't use SSL for the payment processing. .

  • Weasel words! These are second hand. Used.

  • +1

Does the HTTPS lack matter much? Assuming you are not on a public LAN or unencrypted wifi.

I suspect it is more likely that your PC or the server will be compromised, than the ISP gateways in-between.

Or do you think the ISP is doing deep packet inspection to capture card details? Maybe the Huawei switches?

    • +1

Assuming that customers will not be using a public computer or wifi (or 3g?) is not really a solid stance on security. It takes so little effort for them to implement.

    • +3

Or common node cable internet. Shared hosting. Many other vectors for the data to get sniffed.

Also the website is receiving your CC number before running it through there eWay script. Is your CC being stored on the website too ? It is likely sitting there in the HTTP logs on the web server in plain text as well.

  • i bought the nexus 7 from them last month. it was not in nexus box but working fine. happy as it has 1 yr warranty.

There's an interesting post on Reddit about Refurbs…. makes sense to me.

    Guys
I got a New 32gb WiFi from officeworks for 204.25 Price matching techriffic.com.au about 2 weeks ago. PM me your emails and i'll send you a receipt. If a lot of people are interested i'll post it up here somewhere! I've heard that receipts aren't good enough at most places but its worth a try??

    • isn't there $90 in postage on this nexus from techrific? yes there is!

  • I would have bought a 16GB from here if they used a secure payment method.

  • +1

Still hasn't been dispatched after purchasing the day this post was started…pretty disappointing communication

  • anybody received their order ?

    Date ordered: 15/04/2013
    Order sent on: 22/04/2013
they sent me tracking number on 22nd.

Still waiting. Shouldn't take this long for melbourne to melbourne delivery. also i am unable to track my order online on fastway website. don't buy from them.

    • same situation with you, I think we are cheated

  • hi does anyone receive your order yet? I bought one on April 16th, but the parcel is still not shipped. Their excuses are they forgot to deliver and the issues with their post company. I am wondering it is a fraud

  • -1

just check its address (31 Ross Smith Avenue. Frankston VIC 3199) on google map, it is a store to sell toys, books and DVDs. IT IS A FRAUD

  • damn

  • wait. looks like people who bought these from their last deal received them on time.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96351

google gave me this for store image >> http://i37.tinypic.com/rje3ao.jpg

they must have a physical store there.

just started a forum thread about this here >> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101067

  • Did you search 'centralfield technology' instead of 31 Ross Smith Avenue. Frankston VIC 3199? If you search centralfield technology, you can not enter the street view right? But when you type 31 Ross Smith Avenue. Frankston VIC 3199, it is a totally different place.
yeah i do find the people who got their orders through your link. Hopefully, it is not a fraud. By the way, Roy Cheung from the sales team told me the tracking number will be updated on Friday, how about you, have you ever contact with them?

  • i just sent an email to them today, i am thinking to call them tomorrow. looks like a legitimate business judging from previous deal buyers. i don't mind delay as long as i get it within next few days.

  • If I can not receive the valid tracking number from them tomorrow, I will call them. Good luck to us

  • I called on Tuesday and the guy on the phone said that they have problems with the delivery company picking up items from their warehouse and it would be 'fixed' by Wednesday or Friday (at the latest). I called Fastway and asked them the status of my tracking number. Fastway said it was scheduled to be picked up on Monday (4 days ago), but it hasn't and is unaware of any problems.

  • Just receive the order, please ignore what I said
