    • I've got the same thing for the 32GB white. The delivery estimated date to arrive at my door is today but I don't see anything new on the tracking. I'm taking it with a grain of salt until I see anything other than one thing on the FedEx tracking site OR it arrives. Fingers crossed it arrives this week.

      • Grain of salt justified. Now the estimated delivery is N/A so I guess it didn't magically make it from HK to AU with only a single FedEX event. Oh well, looks like a multi week wait for me.

        • OK, looks like it finally got picked up on Tue night by Fedex, new estimated arrival on Thu but it's sitting in Alexandria today so I'm more hopeful this time it's actually going to be delivered. So until you see 'picked up' in your Fedex tracking info it hasn't actually moved from the Google warehouse in HK.

        • Delivered today. One day earlier than the new estimate. Enjoying phone now.

Great camera comparison to the S4.

Just to point out, the initial battery life tests are coming in. For typical usage it looks like it will easily last the day, and people are even talking about 6 hours screen-on time.

Unless you have a very particular all-day phoning, or all-day gaming, habit - you're not likely to have an issue. If you are, you'll already have been looking at battery packs.

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47056316&post…

Overall, not an issue for normal people.

    • There is no way screen accounted for a mere 30% battery use. It must of been set to a very low level.

  • I've had my nexus4 for 6 months now. Best $400 spent. Ive dropped it 2 times now. But I had a $4 bumper from eBay and a front and rear screen protector. Still as good as new.

  • Only 16GB black version available now. :(

    • You mean white?

      • Yes. (Wow, I clearly need more sleep.)

  • Ordered mine yesterday, 16GB white. Fedex will ship it to my by Wednesday.

  • +2

Must say Google is outdoing itself on the quoted shipping times. I ordered a 32GB white around 10pm 1/11, which was to ship in 2-3 weeks, but received an email saying that it shipped today instead.

    • Me too! Great to see that Google is under-promising and over-delivering. Fantastic customer service.

I ordered White 32GB (they ran out of black) on 01/11/2013 6pm and was advised shipment from factory in 2-3 weeks. Just received email stating that phone has been shipped and will arrive tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait and kudos to Google (and LG) for their great work.

    They're all gone!

  • So now the supply has all gone and demand is still there, the price looks like this. Only a $160 markup if you are a little late to the party…

    • yes you have to be quick at launch, the same as last time.
now with every future phone deal posted ppl will say 'forget that, the nexus 5 is cheaper and better'
but nexus 5 will be unavailable for a few months, just like last time!

      • +1

It's already a lot better than last year in my opinion. Was in Canada last year and Google said they would allow orders from 9am so I set my alarm for 9am, and it was already sold out when my alarm popped >_>

    Got mine!

    • Congrats! Which city you in??

      • Sydney metro :)

    • Impressions?

      • Damn nice. I really like the look of it, the back has a high quality feel to it (think Htc One).

The new launcher in 4.4 looks pretty nice, not too sure about google now always being on the left side (think you can turn that off though).

        The screen is gorgeous.

Not sure what else to mention, overall im very happy i guess :)

        • Nice one. Hopefully Fedex are on track and I'll have mine tomorrow.

        • is that the black or white version?
i heard only black colour has "soft touch" :/
And did u mean HTC one or one x?

        • I have the black one, and I meant the HTC One. I haven't held a HTC One in a while so don't quote me on this.

In any case, it's a whole world apart from S4, no "cheap" plastic feeling, it feels great in the hand.

  • ooh .. yes. .do tell .. first impressions.

Mine is stuck in the warehouse ..delivery on Wed as it's a public holiday tomorrow.
Though looking for the silver lining, it's in the country and only several suburbs away from work.

    • Mine too :( stuck in derrimut?

  • LOL. .Yes.. DERRIMUT .. must've arrived too late this morning for distribution.

NOT IN STOCK NOW!!! It's on preorder now!!!

        4-5 week wait is bs

        • +4

Live and learn, remember next year when they release the next nexus phone that if you don't buy right on release you'll have to wait at least a month after it sold out. History repeats itself. :D I'm sure it will be posted on ozbargain and there'll be the usual complaining that its not a deal, despite the fact that'll it be selling for the next month $100+ more than what google releases at.

        • -1

This and this again. What wasn't a bargain yesterday suddenly is a bargain today due to market forces, availability vs demand - despite the RRP price.

    back on sale..

  • Just got mine today! The phone is uber fast and the display is simply awesome! You guys won't be disappointed!

    • yeah its pretty neat. The white one doesn't look so bad, I like it! I got 2, one black and one white. The delivery is amazing. Ordered Friday, got it Today!

      • Got a real photo of the phone? I am still awaiting mine to come. Perth is slow with everything……………..

        • ummm I do! its on my camera. you should start seeing plenty of photos on the web though. =)
I will see if I can upload them tonight.

      • you thinks the white one or the black one look better? I ordered the white

      • I've read the texture of the white is different from the black. What's your take on it?

        • video explains it well. The white is like a smooth matte back. The black has a similar feel to the recent Nexus 7. It is a fingerprint magnet while the white takes no fingerprints on its back.

Maybe the black has the edge on premium feel. As the white has a bit of a more plastic feel.

I like the white more cause well, it looks different and unique.
to each their own. Most people put cases on them anyway.

    • how's the camera performance?
saw the verge review.. a little disappointed :/

      http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/4/5062724/google-nexus-5-rev…

        • yup saw that too :/
guess i'll have to try it out myself when the phone arrives tmr..

      • Is The Verge run by Apple fanboys? Here is what Gizmodo says:

the cameras on the Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus were awful. We are happy to say that that’s no longer the case here.

we’d definitely take the Nexus 5 over the HTC One or Galaxy S4 or Droid Maxx

  • A question - my aging Huawei has 2GB internal memory and an 8GB SD card. However, there seems to be a fairly low limit to the number of apps I can install on it, despite having heaps of space available on the SD card.

Since the Nexus is just fixed internal memory, I would guess that means I should be able to install a full 16 or 32 GB of apps.

Is that correct, or is there some inherent limitation in Android?

    • Yes in my experience you can use all the internal memory for apps. Personally I only use about 8gb out of my 16 gb limit though. Some games are around or over 2gb now, so if you use this to play games you'd might like to get a 32gb version. I think you can also use usb otg to increase your storage capacity further, but I ain't 100% sure on the nexus 5. You can on the GNex but you couldn't on the n4, so it would be something else worth considering too if its available.

    • Correct.

    • Thanks guys.

  • Any good nexus 5 case recommendations?

    On FedEx vehicle for delivery

    WA METRO

    • I just got mine now, ordered within a few mins it went on sale.

      • Yep I got mine an hour ago, bought it that day it went on sale on the arvo.

Damn, FedEx updated from being today at 5pm to "Package received after FedEx cutoff" and still sitting in HK as of 18:23…

I was happy when I knew it was coming in 2-3 weeks but after they updated it to today and now this :(

Got my hopes up but still so excited

    • Same happened to me, keep checking Fedex. They picked it up about 2 days later. If you see 'In Transit' then you know it's about 1-2 days from delivery. I'm guessing you'll see it Friday or Monday (Friday would be nicer of course so you can have a Nexus filled weeked) :)

  • Bought 16GB. Shipping 6/12/2013. Odds that it will be sent prior to that date?

    • really hope they send it before that i cant wait to get mine

  • Got mine today, all I can say is WOW!. It's totally awesome. Lighter, thinner and small bezel but more powerful and quick. If you are still thinking of getting one, get it you won't regret it.

    • Got mine yesterday and agree. If having a N4 I wouldn't get it yet but anything older and you'd love it. Excellent value and looks to be rock solid. Don't discount the radios as that was the fail on my last phone (MTK based China Android one from Cubot).

  • Mine is still on it's way..no updates all morning- till finally-
At 10.30.. latest update - "On FedEx vehicle for delivery"

I'm hounding reception regarding the arrival of a Fedex van.. lol.. :)

  • Ok .. reception just rang - it's arrived. YAY. talk about cutting it fine, I was getting a bit worried as we shut at 5.

just did a side by side comparison with one of the girls in the office who has the N4 -
N5 just a shade longer. not much else different.

But a bit busy at work now to play around with it, but time for a quick post on ozbargain.LOL.

  • I'm less enthusiastic about n5 knowing that Galaxy nexus is just getting to 2 years old now, and no kit kat release for it. Lame.

So in 2 years when n7 is released will the n5 be left for dead, too?

I thought new os releases were one of the main points of the nexus line…

Ironically enough, I was planning on getting an n5 after the initial rush and the reviews proved it OK. Might stretch to a note 3 instead (or buy a man-bag and make my LTE note 8 into my phone…. :-) )

    • Google was the one that started the promise of Continuous Support for 18 months and made the rest of manufacturers follow. Prior to this you can only hope if your device even get updates…

    • +1

2 years is considered excellent support. With many manufacturers not coming close. My (Samsung) SGS2 stopped receiving updates well before the 2 years, so I don't see how buying a Note is any better. And with Samsung you would usually get the update 3-6 months after the Nexus branded devices.

      • Not by me, it isn't.
Less than 2 years of support is crap. Just because other manufacturers are just as bad or worse doesn't make less than 2 years of support any good…

My galaxy nexus is still running well and this new os is meant to be more lightweight, so would undoubtedly be an improvement over the 4.3 in currently running. But Google considers my phone not much better than landfill.

I know Samsung aren't great with updates (had galaxy s as my previous phone) but really like the s pen, so if update support past 18 months is not going to happen any more with nexus phones, I may as well go with Samsung.

        • Then you should go back to Samsung. There is really no point of crying about what you don't like. Get whatever you think worth your money.

        • OK so your "issue" is that you like the s-pen more than no s-pen, seeing as the update-ability is the same with everyone (in your view). Sounds like a straight forward solution to me, what are you winging about the nexus brand for?

          PS
If you want an update so much just install a custom ROM? pretty easy and you will get upgrades way past when Google issue them.

  • You guys reckon it's worth ordering a 32gb and waiting 4-5 weeks?

Any ideas if theres gonn be a difference waiting till its available and just getting it then or should I " preorder".

Btw will they take the money out of the account straight away or will they do it when it's dispatched.

    • According to their email to me, they said they would only charge me when it's dispatched, but it's currently a pending charge on my credit card, so I'm not sure what to think since my account still lists it as 'ships in 4-5 weeks'…

  • Is google usually on point with their shipping estimation?

    I don't want 4-5 weeks turning into 7

I guess it's sorta alright since I got to see reviews before just jumping straight into it but I want one now :(

    • It's hard to say. For example I ordered on Sunday. Estimate was 2-3 weeks but I got it yesterday. While it can take upto the X weeks it's too early to tell if it will go beyond that. I say if you get a FedEx tracking number just check the site until you see the 2nd event (picked up) THEN you know it's on it's way.

  • +1

did not know there is diffrences between the balck and the white

After reading some reviews about the camera and display quality about this phone from some links below, I feel LG G2 is much better than Nexus 5 :)

    https://www.google.com.au/search?q=camera+nexus+5&oq=camera+…

Maybe this is just my opinion but seems Nexus 5 to be overhyped and overrated.

    • +1

For the price, it is awesome. The main selling points are updates, latest android, no manufacturer skin and its unlocked with no carrier bloatware.

There are many phones that have extra/superior hardware features, but cost extra.

    • Yeah would be good if they offer it as a Google Play Edition.

  • +2

So first impressions (Blk N5) - As mentioned earlier, Phone feels great in the hand , solid feel and love the finish on the back of the phone, love the screen - Previous owner of a fruit phone.

Without being too precious about it, I doubt it will need a case.

As mentioned previously, value for money, can't be beaten.
And of course you can pay more to get a better phone.

  • My 2nd Nexus 5 16GB Black has been shipped.
Bought on Monday when it has 2-3 weeks shipping notice.

  • Just ordered one

Let's see how long this takes…..

  • +4

So after using this for a few days now I like it even more. I knew it was going to be fast but it's still surprising just how fast it is. And Telstra 4G is averaging 28Mbps vs my home ADSL which only gets 4Mbps. It's funny how quickly I got used to the speed as well. I just went back to use my Optus My Tab/ZTE V9 (thanks OzB) on wifi and it's painfully slow. I don't think I can use the V9 much any more.

The N5 build quality is good. The physical buttons have a bit of free play but nothing to worry about. Kit Kat is fast and friendly and the screen is brilliant. Voice recognition is fast and accurate. So overall it's a fantastic package and "for this price" you can't beat it. If I was going to make one small complaint at this point it would be that it's possibly a little too big for one handed operation. I still love the size and screen on my Xperia Ray and I'd almost be tempted to try out a One mini just for ease of use. But it may just be a matter of time to adjust.

Battery life so far is average but lasts longer than I would expect for so many pixels and so much downloads. Does anyone have experience with a Qi car charger/holder?

  • Got mine yesterday, very impressed. Lightning fast, beautifully built. Maybe not quite the 'premium' feel of an iPhone or a high-end Galaxy, but plenty good enough for me.
But… nearly dropped it on my kitchen floor (hardwood) which is a previous phone killer. Just managed to catch it. The white body feels a bit slippery so I am putting it away until the cases I ordered show up. Last thing I want to do is kill the thing and then have to wait weeks for a replacement.

  • Hi guys, just seeing if you one of you can help me :S I purchased the nexus 5 a week ago, it indicates it was 4-5 weeks away however I have just checked my bank and it shows a transaction for the phone witht today's date? Does that mean it should be getting sent out soon? I checked google play and it shows now 3-4 weeks so I'm a little confused. cheers

    • The delivery dates seem to be a huge overestimation, so don't worry too much. I bought mine Monday evening 4/11 and it was was and still is a pending charge on my credit card. However, it was apparently shipped on Thursday night and due to arrive on Monday 11/11, although my Google Play account still says dispatched in 4-5 weeks.

      • how did you check that ?

        • Might be different for different models (mine is the white 32GB which was less popular), but I received an email from Google Play telling me it had shipped and provided a Fedex tracking number.

  • how do you check if it is shipped or not ? my play store status still shows pending. Bought on the 3rd and it says will ship in 3-4 weeks

    • You get notification when it is shipped.

  • Bought mine on the 5th still pending. Hopefully its sent soon!

  • Well I've been charged for the phone so doesn't that indicate its been shipped?

    • +1

Yes, but clearly that isn't any guarantee unless you have actual shipping information. I just checked my Google Play account again and if you click in the 'info' in that status, you may get an indication; although my account says 4-5 weeks, the 'info' status says 'delivered' with a tracking number. shrugs

  • Cheers was oblivious to the info button. Mine says pending, damn it =( order submitted on the 5/11. Can you anyone confirm the waiting times from the transaction going thru on your bank account to delivery confirmation? cheers

  • I think that the white ones are the only ones that have been shipped out recently

  • +1

Hi if I order a 16g black now, is there any chance I can get it by 20 Nov? Google website shows leave wear house in 3-4 weeks, but I see some of u get the phone much earlier then the estimated time.

    • +1

i think the white ones are the ones that are being shipped out at this time. I have ordered a black one on the 4th of november and it is still showing me that its due to leave in 3-4 weeks whereas my brother ordered the white on at the same time and his white one is already on the way and scheduled to arrive on tuesday
