  • finally good price from HN. is it pricing error (again)??

    • +7

Buy it and find out! Worst case scenario is Gerry will keep your money for a few weeks to punish you.

      • Took my money after they knew there was no stock. Criminals.

    • +1

I bought this for $500 from Harvey Norman like 6 months ago (another ozb deal), so I would assume not.

    • The reason these laptops are going so cheap is because they are old Windows 7 models, say what you will about Windows 8 but it's made all the existing models go down in price considerably.

      • Haha no, its because the computer industry is too competitive. New laptops are now starting to have the option for Win 7. People are avoiding win 8 laptops, its a horror.

  • how is this compared with yesterday "ASUS VivoBook 15.6" i3 4GB RAM Ultrabook w/ 2GB Dedicated Gfx" deal?

    • I would class this a proper ultrabook due to the weight of 1.73kg. This has only integrated graphics however. Racks link below is a pretyt good deal

  • This one is also good. Comes down to $450 if you trade in an old laptop.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-u940-00s-ul…

    • Hmmm yer which is better?

      • But also has graphic card

  • +9

No guys, this is the real deal this time. Look, it even has our name on the screen "Professional" . That's Gerry's call sign to us.

  • +2

This would be eligible for the 250 dollar cash back?

    • +3

      Core i5 Toshiba Toshiba U840/015 14 NBK PSU4SA-015005 $250.00

      https://tradeup4cash.com/au/en/pages/qualifying

No doubt the "qualifying" ultrabooks will be determined by HN as Opia have an exclusive arrangement with HN.

      Refer ACCC correspondence here:
      http://transition.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/110…

      • Isn't this the exact laptop they have on the i5 list as the last item? Toshiba Toshiba U840/015 14 NBK? Whatever the NBK there means.

        • I was in the process of editing my post

        • Natural Black i suppose

      • +2

So this is only $235 after cashback?????

    • +1

Yes, it should. It's an ultrabook and it has Core i5, so should qualify for the trade in. Obviously ask and make sure before handing in your cash. Now I really wish I had a suitable old laptop!

    • +2

As long as it has this code, Toshiba U840/015 14 NBK and SKU PSU4SA-015005, then yes.

Also the trade in must be:
      1. Working
      2. less than 5 years old
      3. >13"
      4. have adapter and Battery.

    internal graphics most lame

  • Yesterdays was only i3 this one is i5. I think I'm going to return yesterdays and get this one instead. Seems better but not sure.

    (Yesterday's deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100903

    • +1

      Today: HD Graphics 4000
      vs
      Yesterday: GeForce GT 635M 2GB

      • -1

        Yes but a lot cheaper

      • +1

So yesterdays is better for photo and video edit due to better graphics card? I'm sorry I'm not across the graphics spec.

Also checked HN returns policy and they don't allow returns for change of my mind even though I have not received the laptop yet and it is pickup in store so I'm done with them and won't bother buying from them again (unless it is really a deal for professionals).

    • You can do that ?

  • Thomastown VIC appear to have stock of this laptop.

  • How do they verify the age of the laptop to be traded in?

    • That is what i am worried about

    • and take note in the terms and conditions…if they are not satisfied with the condition or age of the trade-in, they are allowed to make you an "offer" or will post it at their cost back to you.

Not worth the risk to attempt to trade in an old dud.

  • +1

Guys, no stock available as tried to add this product to the cart, nothing happens and tells me that my shopping cart is empty, looks like its been removed from HN site..was good deal thou.

    • yep. looks like it's gone.

  • Its unfortunately sold out!

  • +5

This one has a Radeon HD 7550 video card and 8GB ram for $70 extra

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-u840-006-ul…

    • I like the looks of this one. Anything in the specs that might not be up to par or cuttign corners?

  • Yep can't add to cart - disappointing as you can get a laptop that's around 5 years old for around $100 so it's effectively $150 off the already reduced price.

  • +3

    Screen Definition
    High Definition

I hate you, pointedly ambiguous marketing influenced specs.

    • Yeah, had to look around myself. Seems it is 1366x768.

It's sad that the 4.7" screen on my phone is 1080p.

    • yeah, it is not high definition, crappy for a 14" screen, pity, but a good price.

  • can anyone confirm the cashback from toshiba ?

  • Just bought Toshiba Satellite U840W/002 Ultrabook Laptop PSU5RA-002001

    • AJ80 can i ask why you chose that over the U840W/OO6 thanks

      • Better looks

        • Thanks your right, got one too. very nearly bought the 006 before your comment.

        • Price??

          550 less trade = 300

          cheapest on ebay 850

        • but this one has HD4000 only as a graphic card thought….

        • Don't like the super wide screen, 6Gb of RAM and no dedicated graphics.

  • +1

Just ordered the U840/006 with 1G 7550M and 8Gb of RAM. $565.05 delivered. There was no stock for pickup.

    Take off $250 and I have a $300 ultrabook!

    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/ultrabook/u84…

    • where from?

      • Online.

        I forgot the welcome5 coupon. :-(

  • +3

Just bought the U840/006 for $557 shipped (with the welcome5 coupon).

Also bought a thinkpad R500 off ebay for $107 shipped buy it now. (launched in June 2008 at the earliest).

    $557 + $107 - $250 = $414. BARGAIN

Now hopefully harvey norman are not out of stock or else I have an r500 I don't want.

    • $555.10 + $9.95 postage - $5…..should be $560.05 for you.

I also hope they don't cancel our orders. :-)

      • My postage was $6.95

        • Got ya…I am Brisbane.

        • Bought one as well.

Now just need to get a laptop for cheap on ebay which is not over 5 years old…

        • +3

The way I found the r500 was to order by newly listed and buy it now only then look for anything with a core 2, find out the processor model number and then go to the intel site and look at the launch date (the processor in the r500 that i got was launched June 2008 so I'm safe).

It can be very hard to find out when a specific laptop was first manufactured so going based off CPU seems a lot safer.

        • Thanks - found a Lenovo SL510 Laptop for $100 which is a 2009 model which will hopefully do the trick!

  • Just wish I could find out what the web cam res is.

  • does harvey norman provide extended warranty ??

could see an option to choose for extended warranty option…

can we buy it separately from toshiba ?

  • +1

    u840/006 sold out

    • I feel so sad

    • No Stock WA except for Port Headland …

    • I checked today and there were 2 left at Nunawarding HN. By the time I got there (in less then an hour from my initial phone call) one was sold. I bought the remaining display model.

According to Toshiba's site these are supposed to weigh 1.73kg. Sure as hell don't feel that light…

Love the RRP of the U840/006:

    PSU4WA-006004 - TOSHIBA SATELLITE U840/006 ULTRABOOK™ COMPUTER
    $1,499.00 RRP AUD (inc. GST)

  • I am trading in a Lenovo R400. Daughter had it at school in 2009.

  • The cashback requires exactly a 13" screen. So I won't bother and imo this cashback process has way too many conditions.

    • Nope, over 13": "The laptop you are trading in must be fully operational, less than 5 years old & have a screen size over 13 inches."

      • yes sorry i was wrong. my mistake. Again, too many conditions, then also postage to send it in…too hard. HN should just accept the old laptop in store and provide the discount on the spot. Too many hoops to jump through to get the cashback and you don't know exactly if your old laptop is accepted. What are they going to do with these laptops anyway? Surely they end up in the recycling system or bin?

        • prepaid postage label will be supplied, you won't even have to look for a pen.

        • Well if Harvey Norman was to receive your old computers and provide discount on spot, they would have jacked up the prices too.

  • the cash back T&C

    14.
For your Trade-In Device to qualify for the full Trade-In Rebate it must, as determined by the Promoter, meet the Trade-In Criteria. If your Trade-In Device does not meet these conditions then your Trade-In Device will be either:

    (a) valued by the Promoter for a fair amount and the Promoter will notify you of that fair amount. You will have 10 days to accept or decline the Promoter's proposed revised Trade-In Rebate. If you do not reply to the Promoter, the Promoter will automatically accept the proposed revised Trade-In Rebate and process it for payment to you. If you decline the revised Trade-In Rebate, then the Promoter will return your Trade-In Device to you;

    (b) returned to you at no cost.

  • Do we need to send in the power adaptor with that too??

    • Yep you do.

  • Can anyone confirm the keyboard on these are backlit?

    Looks like they are:

    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/ultrabook/u84…

    • Says on the specs page:

KeyBoard Colour Tile Matt Black with Backlit

    • Yes it is, Tried it yesterday.

  • Good one, picked up one at castle hill…last one. Thanks

    • What one did you get?

  • Just got an email "We're experiencing a delay with your order. We estimate that your item(s) listed below will be ready in approximately 3 days, at which point we'll contact you."

    *Stock transfer from alternate store**

So hopefully everything is still OK.

    • No email at all for me. And I ordered 5 minutes before you. :-)

  • For anyone in WA looking for one of these http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-satellite-u840w-002-u… Armadale are still showing stock this morning

  • The link for both U840s on the HN page are now also dead. No sign of the deal!

  • Thanks OP. went for the U840W/002 since I missed out on the U840/006 by a long shot. none in WA but could add to cart and opted for it to be delivered, got confirmation email all good :)

  • Got my confirmation email 12pm 25/4/13. they just canceled my order 7am 27/4/13
    NOT HAPPY
How do i retract my +

    • Bugger. I contacted them via web chat and mine will arrive next Thursday or Friday.

      Still no tax invoice though.

    • PS. What one did you order?

  • I bought the U840/006 and got a phone call saying they are no longer available and they offered me the U940/018 which i accepted.

    • I purchased mine after yours I think. No phone call.

So same price??? If so you got a better computer (less mem though)…..well done!

      Better graphic card, but heavier?

      • I got it for the same price, personally i probably would have preferred the U840 as i am not a big fan of Win8, but after a fews hrs of using it yesterday and it is a learning curve compared to the other OS i am starting to get the hang of it.
The differences the 940 & 840 that i am aware are:
        940 has a 2meg dedicated graphics card were the 840 had 1meg,
940 has 4meg ram on board, the 840 has 8meg, im told the 940 is upgradeable
        940 has Win8, 840 has Win7
and reading boxall review the 940 is plastic construction were the 840 is metal, i dont have a problem with that and wouldnt have noticed if i hadnt read the review.
        Overall not a bad Ultrabook,
I got mine from HN QV Melbourne.

    • Same, really hope they can fulfil it - very scared now. Will be pissed if they don't as I would've bought a useless r500. Luckily no phone call yet though.

Edit: that said if they offer me the u940 with the nvidia gt 630m it's not too bad - comes with windows 8 which I personally see as a positive. If they try to offer the i5 with integrated intel graphics only or an i3 though it's no deal.
