LG Optimus G (4G) $388 Delivered - JB Hi-Fi (Out of Stock Online | Available in Store)

610

Hey all, I'm pretty sure I saw this deal posted last night…. however when everyone got to the final stage it showed up as $624, so the original poster deleted the deal. moved to the forums This deal is NOW active, and I called up 2 different JB HiFi's to confirm.

FYI:

This is Australian Stock
It is unlocked
Comes with Telstra Branding

I would like to give credit to the original poster… however I cannot remember their name! If you would please identify yourself, that'd be great.

It's an awesome phone everyone, especially at this price!

EDIT: THANK YOU mr_vino89 for posting the deal last night! The first comment has identified you!

This was the deal posted last night: www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101716

EDIT #2: I've read heaps of the comments! Just my own opinion, even at $388 + $60 = $448, it's still quite a bargain. Kogan is selling it for $438 Delivered, however as we all know, it would be a grey import with only 1 year warranty.

In terms of the Telstra no lock-in contracts, you can of course leave them after a month, so you won't be paying that $60 every month :)

I think it's best to compare this phone to the Nexus 4, as it is essentially an upgraded version of the Nexus 4. Nexus 4 delivered from Google costs ~$419. This is $448 with the no lock-in plan, however the Optimus G is a much better device than the Nexus 4.

  • Can some one who has got it contact free in Sydney please post their receipt?

  • I think this is a price error that JB is honouring.

If you click on the JB link above and check the store stock, you can add it to cart for delivery. Then in the car page, it will say that the item is out of stock, but lists the price of 388 and a note saying its post paid.

Therefore I am suspecting this one go back on sale at 388, but needing that 60 dollar Telstra plan for a month.

The Coffs Harbour store definitely does not budge on the Telstra part of it. Just wasted 1.5hrs of my life after being told the total price was $388 to get there and be told they won't budge.

  • Shame, wasted 1 hr of my life until the manager of the store said that it must be a mistake and they'll only sell with $60 telstra plan. I think they would've honored the deal but the JB took the phone off their online website.

I'm buying the S3 4g from kogan, better deal.

  • Does this have HDMI? Bit of a dealbreaker for me if not. As a travel companion HDMI out is a must

    • Comes with a wireless video out adaptor which you can plug HDMI into.

      • Oh I'm so close to buying this now… Will decide tomorrow. Any stock around sydney? I'll call around anyway.

Can we trust JB's site for stock levels?

  • Just picked it up from JB Springvale (VIC) for #388 no contract. They still have stock left.

Just wanted to update you guys:

I called up the JB Hi-Fi on Rosamond Road (next to Highpoint in Victoria) and Tim from Telco informed me that there weren't any in stock and it was an online-only deal. Having taken my brother to Bunnings Warehouse for work, I thought I'd stop by and try my hand at it anyway. Ended up talking to the Samsung rep, who then asked another employee by the name of 'Raj' who was more than happy to check the SKU.

What do you know? $388 and there were 3 of them in stock. Ended up snatching all 3 (2 for my brothers, who were rocking a iPhone 3G & another a Nexus 4 (don't ask, he wanted 3G) and I had a Nexus S and it was a warranted upgrade. They all paid individually of course. All the while Tim walking by looking at me in surprise.

I am very glad with my purchase. Even Raj was surprised it was so cheap for a 4G current-gen (well..last-gen now) phone.

    Tl;Dr:

Never believe a JB HiFi employee on the phone. Always go and fish it out yourselves.

  • Saw advertisement on today's mx. buy handset for $388 if connect Telstra $60 casual plan (no contract).

  • Get them to check their system cos the rep I talked to originally refused but looked up the SKU on their system and it came up at $388 so he was happy to sell to me at that price. Comes with free wireless HDMI adapter thingy.

  • tried JB chermside (QLD), the guy said it was online only as he didnt hear about it.

  • ANY LUCK IN BRISBANE?

  • Just had a chance to power it up and play with it. Damn - its nice! IMO more responsive then my SGSIII. Screen is nice and sharp too…tempted to keep this and give the SGSIII to my wife instead :P

hmm.. nice price but might be average in another two weeks when the revised Nexus 4 with 32GB and 4G will be released (rumored).

    • What's the specs on that phone? Because you realise that this phone has 32GB with 4G? And will it be under $400?

      • 32GB and 4G is what makes this phone better. Many people saying this phone is $448 with one month with Telstra.

Nexus 4 you get no manufacturer skins, latest android and updates first and for longer.

        • If for some reason my online order fails, I hope for a Nexus 5 with such specs. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nexus 7/10 get a spec bump as this years Nexus release and the Nexus 4 continue to be the Nexus handset.

Bought one from Westfield Sydney this morning, but they are only going with the $60 Telstra plan, and I've just cancelled the plan with them :)

    • +1

Does that mean you don't have to pay the extra $60, or you had to pay it but because you don't want to be charged for a subsequent month you cancelled it straight away?

      • +3

It means the $60 will be charged, but most of it will be returned to me as they are only charging 1 day of usage on a pro-rata basis, roughly $60/30 = $2. Confirmed this with the Telstra rep when cancelling.

        • +1

Oh that is not bad at all! Thanks for that info!!

        • Hi SilverRanger,

Could you please advise how they are going to return the credit? Cash or just Telsa credit which you can used for other telstra service, such as landline rental? thanks.

        • How did you cancel? Can you do it online or do you have to sit on hold for an hour? :)

        • +1

I didn't ask how that will be returned, presumably it's a refund to my credit card.

        • +1

Bought the phone this morning, walked to office, called Telstra, done =)

        • Thanks, I am going to get one on the way home.

        • I rang Telstra to verify this but the rep said you definitely don't get a refund and that its not Pro-rata.

You would forfeit the rest of the $60 if you cancelled after one day.

I did ask if she was sure and she said Yes, it is in the T&C for this.

        • Seems like we are getting different responses from Telstra. The rep I talked to was the one doing the cancellation for me but then again it doesn't add much value if the T&C states that (which has not been sent to me yet). If I don't get a refund, I think I have a valid case to complain.

        • +1

I just cancelled the plan by calling telstra and have been told exactly same with what SilverRanger has been told. Hopefully there is no surprise when I received the bill at the end of the month.

  • The phone is pretty good in term of hardware. But it seems that three touch buttons don't work since unboxed.
At this stage, I am not sure whether it is part of feature LG or Telstra customized which means rooting has to been done. Or that is a fault of the hardware.

Basically, three buttons will show up when touched. But they don't do functions as they should do.

So I have to restart it in order to switch to another app which is totally unacceptable and desperate.

It is advised on Internet that rooting the device is needed.

    Has anyone got similar issues?

    • Sounds like a hardware flaw, possibly a software flaw.

      • Yep - take it back and get it replaced.

Mine works perfectly…TBH I don't think I'm going to bother loading another rom on. The stock LG software is way better then Touchwiz…

  • This doesn't come stock with Multiview (for true multitasking). Is there anyway to get it? ie custom roms?

  • Looks like a decent phone. Damn, shoulda gotten one

  • What are JB like with returns? I'm considering buying this, but if after a few days I'm not happy with it, can I get a refund on it?

  • Picked one up in Darwin.

Casuarina store: Said they would not do it without the $60 plan.

Berrimah store: Said it didn't require a plan, $388 outright - walk away - no more to pay. Bought mine from here :-)

  • what is this phone like in comparison to galaxy s3 and xperia z?
    galaxy s3 4g - $400
    xperia z (used) - $450

get this or xperia z/galaxy s3??

    • xperia z or optimus g

Xperia Z is full HD screen(although colors look more washed out), water and dust resistant and has great build quality.

This has 32GB and in your particular case, brand new.

S3 has removable battery but worse cpu and gpu.

  • 2 in stock at jb moore park. I cant decide on it! Its square and not overly thin…

  • +1

Hi all for those in Perth, I just came back from JB Hifi in Booragoon, got it for $388 outright. It is Telstra brand but the guy said it is unlocked, sorry I can't verify this because I don't have a microsim.

  • Bought this phone without the plan at Macquarie Centre Sydney. Great phone!

  • was given a work phone right after i purchased this :(
mine's up for sale if anyone is interested.
