Been hunting for either D7100 or D7000, but the price of D7000 now is almost half price of the new D7100. Should I pull the trigger or wait for D7100 to fall to $900 mark? $709 shipped is the best price so far.

    id go for the 5200

    • That is a tough one. D5200 newer sensor vs D7000 semi pro magnesium body, dual card slots, lots of bells and whistles to switch between modes quickly , and AF fine tune ability.

Redundant memory card and AF fine tune is a must for me, so I think I would lean more towards the D7000. Don't know how many lenses I would of had to return or get it calibrated without the AF fine tune feature. Even my kit lens is razor sharp after AF fine tune.

      • On top the D7000 is weather sealed, means you can shoot in extreme conditions (i.e. snow and heat). This is something the D5200 diesn't have.

    • Yeah, different league. Built in motor as well. So u can buy cheaper lens… Hmmm what to do what to do? Should I buy D7000 and wait a year and upgrade to D7100? I have D5100 atm and pretty ok with dat but needs a faster AF. D5200 has better image quality but not much. On the flip side, flipped LCD is a great feature.

  • I'm guessing you'll be waiting for a while (6 months+??) until D7100 to drop to around $900.

    • I could wait… :) really dat long? :)

  • All depends what your needs are really. I'd go for the D7000 myself. Good price, great camera. I have the D7000 and just bought the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X DX (not the II).

I suggest learn on the D7000. When you're good enough move up to full frame D600 or D800.

One thing to bare in mind is whether or not it's a grey import from Kogan. For that price doesn't worry me in the slightest but Nikon seem to not want to fix anything that's not originally destined for that country, even if under warranty. Read Trey Ratcliff's experience with Nikon http://www.stuckincustoms.com/2012/10/31/bad-experience-with….

If it's happy snappies at birthday parties, etc.. i'd consider a Micro 4/3 (ie- Olympus OMD - great camera w/ excellent EVF) & great selection of lenses. Much more nimble. People tend not to get intimidated as much as a big black DSLR stuck in their face.

Cameralabs.com have good video reviews on cameras.

    Good luck
