Mitubishi Triton 4X4 $29990 Drive Away

1150

I've been researching dual cab utes and have come up with this Gem. Speaking with a Mitsubishi Dealer the Company is apparently offering nearly $10,000 in savings for private or ABN buyers. At the moment it is cheaper than the 4X2. The majority of the utes, in stock, are white. The deal is said to be for Tritons ordered and delivered by the end of the Month however common sense would say it will be extended until the end of next month.

Some Dealers Are Trying To Sell The Last Of the 2012 Stock. MAKE SURE THE BUILD DATE IS 2013 or Ask For An Extra $1000 off!!!

If you want a new dual cab 4X4 all I am saying is compare the Triton then make up your own mind.

I for one am getting a new one in my car port!

  • I almost laughed at this first but your actually quite right here..
    This is very cheap!
New shape coming soon though but still this is a total bargain!

My mate got same specs etc 39,000 which was the best deal possible. " usually 45k for same spec

    • Coming soon? New shape is quite a while away, at least a year or more.

Thats pretty good, considering its 1k more then the crappy 2 wheel drive jeep on the ads.

          Are you a school teacher?

        • +25

He probably is. But regardless, our education system has failed miserably, lol.

        • +4

          Are you a school graduate?

        • -1

I agree, attention to detail and grammar are non-issues. Particularly when you read the newspaper and packaging of items these days (the ones made in Australia).

        • Actually a school dropout.

        • You lose marks for not capitalising your acronym.

        • No, I'm just a pharmacist.

      • I found that the compass and the patriot with the 2.4 was not a good combo seeing as both cars weigh I fair bit.
The petrol 3.7 or diesel is the way to go but still a fully optioned cherokee easily hits the 2 tonne mark.

    • That's an amazing price. Pity they don't do the auto for, say, $2000.
Also not sure the OP's deal is available in QLD.

      • +15

        Real men drive manual ;)

        • +7

I agree although nothing beats eating in your car comfortably between jobs, to hell with fuel efficiency, not being able to choose gear, not being able to jumpstart, to hell with all of that as long as I can eat comfortably in my auto.

        • +1

Real men drive old school Holden utes with "3 on the tree" and no synchromesh on first. :D

        • +1

you can jump start both auto and manual

        • -4

Regardless of what people say, you can still eat comfortably driving a manual car.

        • -1

Wouldn't say that if you are stuck in freeway for an hour everyday

        • +1

          @PinzVidz: real bogans you mean

        • -3

Real men don't use superficial means to compare the better person.

        • I think Voolish means jump start by roll starting. Which you cannot do in an auto. Being able to eat and drive makes it worth it though.

        • Given the context, its fair to say he meant clutch start, not jump start.

        • +2

Haha must be a few baby P platers on their auto license here.

It is easy in grid lock, you make it sound complicated, shift up shift down… yeah REAL challenging with a hand of food. By the sounds of some of you the extra hand is required for something else. ;)

        • +2

          WANKING!

  • -6

It's not a ute it's a pickup truck. Utes are based on car platforms (unibody), and include the Falcon ute and Commodore ute. Trucks are based on ladder frames.

    • Can you please explain it more? So which one is better?

      • +1

utes are better on road and trucks are better off road

      • +2

Men who don't need a truck or go off road, typically buy these to make up for other 'small' inadequacies.

    • +33

No. Its still a utility vehicle, a.k.a a ute. I hardly ever hear the term 'pickup truck' in Australia.

      • +4

I hate the uptake of those 'Americanisms', like frickin 'SUV'…just call those little shitboxes what they are people, fake 4wds!

        • Agreed. When I go to Maccas I don't order fries simply because we're not in America (I realise there is a technical difference in width of potato when cooked but to hell with it, it's a chip). I don't call prawns shrimp either.

        • ofcourse you dont call prawns shrimps… they're 2 different things.. nothing to do with Americanism or not. sorry just had to point that out

        • +1

It's absolutely an Americanism, bao28. They're 2 different things to us, but to the yanks, prawns are referred to as "shrimp".

    • Going off the picture, I would consider this a dual cab ute.

  • +10

We've got a mix of base model Triton and Hilux utes at work. Road noise in the Triton cab is loud, but in every other respect it is better than the Toyota. The Triton has auto and cruise control, Hilux doesn't. The Hilux don't even have grab handles above the windows. Come to think of it, other than air con the Hilux has all the features of a Datsun 180B.

    • what are grab handles above the windows used for, anyway? I was trying to work this out the other day. But I couldn't.

      • +14

They're the "oh shit" handles, because that's what you shout when you grab them :)

        • +5

After reading the manual for a certain Korean manufacturer - they called them F.A.G.s - Folding Assist Grips

        • +4

We always called the grab handle the "Jesus bar", cause if you were ever in a situation where your head smacked into it you'd be yelling "….

        • yep… my circle has always called them "jesus straps" for the same reason.

    • +4

      But hilux is undestroyable

      • +1

Agreed. Many of us at work tried this already. Just very very hard.

        • I always loved the Hilux, but considering how strong the aussie dollar has been over last few years, absolutely no reason why they are still such a rip off. But I guess that's Toyota's business model of late, all their cars are over priced when you compare them to what else is out there.

Few things to know about the triton, I went for a test drive and did some research the last time this deal was out.

    The good,

Nice and big inside for the outside dimensions, Its was a good deal for what you got for your money, The Glx has all the perks you really need. i.e. bluetooth, cruise etc. If you can order one (not just get dealer stock) the $750 rear diff lock option would be a bargain. If you car just let you down and need a manual ute and have $30k only it a good deal. The gearbox is slick for a mitsubishi and seems to shift well.

    The bad,

The 2.5Lt diesel has a timing belt which will need replacement every 100k.

Steering is a little vague compared to the competitors.

This model had a problem with unburnt sludge feeding back through the EGR into the plenum chamber of the motor, apparently MM has re-design the plenum to help solve it.

The 4 spd (GLX) and autos have their torque de-tuned from 400nm to 350nm. Mitsubishi wont say why. The deal failed to discuss it. The auto might be a bit weak I assume and they de-tuned to prevent heavy footed bloke cooking them while towing. It can be chiped up or re-tuned. Ive heard they can be re-tuned to big power acutally. Like 160kw / 480nm land.

The car seems to be a bit lacking off the bottom end. I Seemed to be always driving one gear lower than the hilux 3.0td. Maybe it takes time to get used to it. The I drove the GLS which has a lower final drive gear ratio. Its got 3.7s vs 3.9s on the glx. Seemed to me for a lot of shifting gears and revving higher (thus louder) than a comparable diesel. Couldn't seem to hold gears like other diesel I have driven.

Its still a great car for the money, I think if my current 4x4 was taken out of the picture and I HAD to buy a truck that week for my bugdet I definetly would have bought it. but If you have the money the holden colorado driveaway is an equivalent deal. Its definetly 25% more car. I think the triton is about as good as the hilux from 2 years ago. And if you just want a light trade ute for work and such thats fine. Whereas if you are planning on buying a dual cab as a daily of instead of (or replacing) a 4x4 wagon. The colorado is just a way nicer drive.

    • How is the fuel economy
      Practical vs claimed ?

  • +23

You can thank the cheap and cheerful Great Wall utes for putting pressure on the likes of the Triton…

  • +1

Mitsubishi seems to have some good deals going around recently. I just bought a new model Outlander diesel for around $10000 off rrp as well.

  • +2

that is a bloody good deal! I'm tempted but without the ancap5 and not finding any internal ROPS to bring this inline with mine spec gonna have to miss out.

  • +1

Yeah. Mitsubishi is having some deals. Mate picked up a brand new Challenger 4x4 for $32k d/a

    • Crazy, i paid 44k for my Manual LS challenger :(

Anyways, for those who care, Tritons have a ladder chassis and they do pretty well offroad, especially once you put a decent set of AT or MT tyres on them.

      Good deal thats for sure.

That being said Isuzu are doing the LS-M dual cab for 40k on the road currently, worth considering if you want something just a touch nicer, and it has the legendary 3.0l TD, which is probably one of the best diesels still being sold.

  • Yeah fully the one this this deal does do is kill the Great wall idea for a 4x4 diesel.

  • +14

Just drove past my mitsu dealer and saw about 100 people lining up at the dealer office, must be ozbargainers

    • Wish this deal was on the lancers.

      • Agreed. $10k off a Ralliart and I'd be there in a heartbeat!

    • +3

While the other horde is queuing up at Renault…

Hah, it must be the weekend. I meant nissan - my bad. Doesn't matter, same CEO at the end of the day.

  • +22

The more cars deals on this site, the better!
Great post and although the 'price' of 29k is not for all, sharing this information to a wide audience only promotes better knowledge amongst current and future car buyers. Research shows people living in Australia purchase 6+ cars in their lifetime. As they say, cars are the second biggest purchase we make, so the more information about deals, the more informed we all are.

    • +3

Agree… as long as they are advertised prices. Car deals are usually negotiated individually and what one person buys for may not be attained by the next person. Price matching does not apply with cars worst luck.

I just did a check on Carsales for a new Kluger 2wd base model… prices ranged from $36,000 to $48,000 drive away !!! It sure is worthwhile checking around before you go out shopping for a new vehicle.

Another problem with giving price feedback on deals people get is when they have traded another car in. That can distort all the numbers as some dealers top load their pricing to give amazing trade ins and all sorts of other tricks.

@ OLIVER >> Forgive me if there is a spelling mistake pls…

    • Let's find some Aussie made cars to post up, support Aussie jobs!

  • +5

Where's the buy one get one free?

    • Give em 60k and you can have one free =p

  • Better off buying a brand new Nissan Nivara. Cant remember how much they are but theres 2 of them, ones like 27k drive away.

    • +2

D40 Navara version is the one comparable to this and almost 25% more than this…… which is better? is an argument for another thread maybe?

      • +2

the D40 navara is similarly "aged" like this triton, we'll see a new one before long. You would buy based on price IMO at this point in the market. For $26k and dual cab (like that link posted above), all you would get would be a D22 and the triton shits all over the D22 from a great height

  • +12

Didn't need one but I had to at this price!

  • +4

    Can I click and collect?

  • The D22 (old shape navara) has some driveaway deals on it. Its pretty solid and still made in Japan (no other ute is) but its getting pretty old in the tooth. the 2.5lt motor in the nissan is real laggy down low. The D40 is the yanky shape navara and around $40k driveaway. Plus nissan has gone to the dogs lately I reckon in build quality.

I think the triton is a better deal than D22 navara, and pretty much better than the d40 ' xcept for th smaller tray. But the New Colorado, Ranger and BT-50 are just on a different level to these old designs.

Trust me went in a run in my mates new colorado with a 6sp auto yesterday and its a completely different level of car. The uncle has a new BT-50 and thats nice as well, but its too dear, bang for buck its all colorado.. Those cars can impress a Prado or Pajero buyer.

These tritons look like they would be better off road though due to the smaller size and better approach and departure angles. And they a cleverly designed of still be a good size in the cab.

    • Don't forget the Isuzu DMax. I bought one (limited edition XRunner) less than a month ago for $45000 drive away and even got a $500 RSPCA superstore voucher.

  • Know someone that got one at this price (30k), great bargain
Sorely tempted myself but am just in love with my old 73 HQ ute
Plus, I checked the piggy bank & there wasn't 30k lying around
    Guess that's why I'm an OzBer…

    • Its the other way around.
You don't have $30k lying around because you keep buying bargains here ….

  • +6

Wow, i think this is the first bargain post on 'large item' price more than $20,000 and got to OZBargain front page (excluding the Nissan Test Drive to get $50 fuel voucher)…
soon we can all enjoy more bargain posts on passenger cars :)
    Bring it on!!!

  • +7

Yeah but how many upvoters are really going to buy it?

    • +5

I upvoted but won't buy. I just want to reward OP for good detail and for thinking of OzB when out shopping. Also there aren't many car posts here, and I think they're very useful.

  • +6

Thank OP………just added one to my cart but they don't accept PAYPAL

  • +2

Iv'e had my GLX-R 4x4 for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it, fun to drive and it has some go in it as well, very spacious in the front and back and compared to the other competitors i think the inside is much nicer looking, i have another battery mounted on top of the Tow bar beam underneath the tray at the back out of view to power my fridge for camping.

I don't think i'd personally go for white but for $30k you can't complain, go get one!

  • It's a good deal from my research. going to hold off though

  • +3

So…..I am waiting for some comment goes "Thanks OP, just bought one, although I don't believe I ever gonna use it……"

  • +1

    Will officeworks pricematch?

  • +1

Wonder if they do free postage?

  • +1

Loving all the subtle gags in this thread.

  • Why is a Abn required? Is there a way to get one without an abn?

    • The ad says "yes"….
"Private buyers and ABN holders only."

  • wow how did this get 100+ votes… probably no more than 5 people actually bought one

    • +1

Doesn't matter if you buy it. Just that its a good deal. Having recently finished a round of car shopping - if I'd seen this, I'd probably at least taken it for a test drive. This deal is a lot of car for $30k.

  • You can buy a nissan navara d40 for 3ok this month also. About 15k off rrp

  • +2

Signed a contract today! Great deal thanks OP!

  • +1

Bought 1 as well :) thanks OP

  • I wish I was on commission. Signed up for mine today. Anyone want a slightly used 2004 Triton. Cheeeeeeep
    :-)

  • We are all set to buy one of these this week, but then saw this in the paper: http://m.nissan.com.au/~/media/Files/mobile-offers/2013-may/…

Which is better? I'm so confused now!

  • This deal is still current, and believe it or not, I bought one based on ozbargain, now thats an impulse buy!

  • +1

We picked up our new 4wd Triton yesterday & I believe we got a cracker of a deal. For $31250 we got a GLX, with a tub liner, tinting, back step, tow bar, floor mats, soft cover & a nudge bar. This was from Cricks at Maroochydore.

    • +1

Excellent work, you probably saved about 15k off the full retail price. I quite like mine. And the price is brilliant,
