Nexus 7 32GB $206 | 3G $254 @ The Good Guys

1730

After seeing the JB Hifi deal on asus this weekend, decided it was time to buy a tablet, went hunting a little bit and they are for some reason ridiculously cheap at the good guys. Not sure if this is just a standard price or a sale, but I think this is a bargain:

32Gb 3g $254
32GB WiFi $206

You can always buy direct on ebay (WiFi, 3G) and pay $2 postage.

    • likely at a different price

the Chinese brands are looking less attractive.

    • +1

You really missed out on a good line there about a certain Chinese brand tablet.

      • what a huge waste of opportunity!

    • IT's Taiwanese Brand! Taiwan <> China!

      • I think Phoebus is talking about Ainol… not Asus lol

      • one is called Repuclic of China and the other People's Repuclic of China :-)

        • Its republic. Sorry cldn't help myself.

        • they are not the same.

  • my Chinese brand is coming soon, otherwise i may consider this.

  • Can you use the 3g version to make voice calls?

    • I don't think so, also I don't believe it does SMS out of the box either.

    • I did some research a few days ago and i dont think they have worked out how to get gsm working yet. Pretty sure they have got sms working.

    • +1

Can you use the 3g version to make voice calls?

Yes, but only VoIP. Works OK, but not as reliable.

  • At this price, everyone should get the 3G version. You won't regret.

    • +7

isnt it more economical to just get a data pack on your phone, and use that as a wifi hotspot, rather than having 2 sim cards? I mean, most people always have their phone with them anyway. I guess if you can afford 2 sims then sure, but this is ozbargain. Don't most people get wifi only tablets for this reason?

      • +1

Battery issues :( Other than that I would love to tether.

        • That's true, it does suck down the battery :/

So what's the best sim to get for a tablet?

        • what I am doing, I have the 3G version.
sometimes I use tethering if my phone battery full,
or take off my sim card from my phone and put it in the tablet use it after finish put it back:P

      • It's a lot more convenient, plus save your phone battery.
And you can still use wifi if like.

      • I always say the same thing, rather carry a 4G hotspot in my pocket for the WiFi model. Or use a hotspot from the phone and charge at work or in the car.

      • +1

Telstra just announced via their blog that they will be introducing data pack sharing over multiple SIM cards. No pricing as yet, but I am hoping they don't charge much of a premium for this service. Given this, and that other carriers might follow I would be buying a 3G version as it is less hassle that hot spotting with the phone.

are you be able to bargain more at goodguy??
they always say pay cash pay less
but everytime when i ask them cash price they always just give me like $1 discount on the ones that is already on special

    • +6

If you ask for a reduction on something thats already reduced then they aren't going to do much, but if you ask them to lower the price on something thats already way overpriced, then they'll drop it a bit, still make money and still be ripping you off.

  • I bought 1, pick up in store at Mt Gravatt. After that, tried to pick up another one, not available.

I just tried a few stores by updating the quantity to 1,2,3.
3 is the max, when I buy 4, no store is available for pick up.

So I assume 3 pcs stock per store is max. Be quick!

  • Delivery only. $50 delivery fee

    • I can choose pick up from my local tgg though. Save $50 mate, it is only 15min of drive.
Just trying not buying but seems a lot of tgg in wa have stocks.

Wow. So fast got people put on ebay and sell it :)

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nexus-7-32GB-7in-Black-/121114989…

    • GoodGuys have that avenue covered too, with $2 postage.

    • that ebay sale does not produce profit. what's the point?

      • My line of thought too!

      • might get staff discount, credit card points, etc. Having said that, you don't make much.

        • not worth it.

  • So tempting after i accidentally dropped my 16gb in the toilet last week. I don't think i can hold out until July for the new tablet.

    • +12

Forgive me, I can empathise with your discomfort for holding out. You must be busting.

    • +7

Should've bought an Ainol for toilet duties.

  • Even if you chose to pick up from store, check the order status after the purchase, it may say BackOrdered. It appears that the pick up from store option might still be available (even if the store does not currently have it in stock) - i.e. it could mean they will deliver it to the store (when they have stock) so you can pick it up there.

I hope GG have enough stock to fulfill OZB demand.

    • Why wouldn't everyone be office works price matching?

      • In case GG ran out of stock, so OW won't need to price match. So OW stores may elect to call a store to check stock level.

Hopefully, GG have enough in stock so people can price match Friday morning.

  • Garrrghh is the Galaxy 7" or the Nexus 7 the better option! I want the one that is more responsive… can not decide [don't need 3G].

  • Anyone know how to use gift card to purchase this online? Gift card menu doesn't recognise my giftcard number.. And there's no menu to put the gift card PIN. Weird..

  • Got her!

    • -2

      who, Monica Lewinsky?

      • Don't worry mate, I laughed.

  • Hmm no pickup available. How much is delivery probably not worth it if you can't pick up.

    oh wells….lets wait longer then…

    • Buy on ebay. $2 delivery. Links added to post.

  • Does this have HDMI output?

  • +1

successful price matched the 3G on OW online. $241.30. Thanks OP

    • what's the process to price match online?

      • Call OW and tell them the price they will match it….

        • wow such a long wait on phone. Are all you guys calling too?

        • Apparently 3g is sold out so I got the non 3g for $197.22

  • I am looking to get into the Android world and wanted to try these out. Does the lack of an SD card slot make this an issue for anyone?

    • 32Gb should be enough for most people.

  • Noob question. Does this have a file management system like Samsung so I can play and dl mkv movies without hassles.

    • I use IOS so I'm no expert here but I believe the VLC player should be available in Google Play (Android Shop), which should allow you to watch the said formats.

  • Anyone know if Dick Smith price match competitors?

    • +1

They might say the do, but more often than not they don't. They'll usually give the excuse that it's "below cost price" and to "buy it from the place you're price-matching".

      • Thanks for that- will give it a try and report back

The few times I've got them to pricematch something, they say it goes under their cost price so they can't.

But once then I asked them, well what's the lowest price you can do then? The guy obliged and took a fair chunk of their price, and only a couple of dollars above the price I was trying to match.

  • I know the new Nexus 7 is coming out very soon, but all I'd be using it for is to watch TV shows/movies and reading .pdf documents on the way to uni every day. Would it be worthwhile waiting or just pulling the pin and buying one now? How much was the Nexus 7 when it was first released in Aust?

    • for your needs, the current one should be enough. the 32GB was 320 the first few weeks, then quickly dropped to 290. either buy now and enjoy it or wait 2 months and pay 100 more for the newest toy.

  • Successfully price-matched Nexus 7 32Gb Wifi for $197.60, OW southport. She added $2 delivery cause she was a newbie at searching for prices (just glanced at good guys delivery charges without checking). Didn't bother whinging over $2.

  • Anyone have any recommendations on a good case for one of these?

  • +1

  • For anyone interested, I just saw this article on Gizmodo about a clone style Nexus 7 from Hisense for around US $150- interesting:

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2013/05/hisense-sero-7-pro-hands-o…

    • +2

8gb on the hisense vs 32gb on the nexus 7 for roughly $50.00 difference. Why would anyone buy the hisense?

We all know specs side by side mean nothing, its how the os utilises them

  • I brought (pre-ordered I think) the 16gb for around $319 delivered from Google when it first came out… Poor me :'(
