  • bargain. woolies have 1000mg 400tab for $13

      poor quality!

      • I think so…

  • pretty cheap. but this is one of the cheapest brand though.
woolworth always have 1000mg 400capsules for 1/2 price, which is about $12.5

    • Probably full of mercury and other chemicals, this is going against my usual Ozbargain code of ethics but I'd fork out a bit more for a more trusted brand when it comes to fish oil. Each to their own…

      • fair enough

      • whats the best brands? im just looking to start taking some fish tablets? also what time is best to take them?

I like this one best for the price and quality.

I believe it should be eaten with a meal for more absorption, I don't think there is an exact crucial time to take in fish oil. There are important times when you should be getting your protein and carbs such as before and after your workouts but I believe that fats are OK to just spread out throughout the day.

        • Well I personally go for the liquids which are more potent but some people don't like ingesting it in that form.

Currently have Swisse Ultiboost Wild Fish Oil Liquid 500ml which I got for $14 but its usually over $30.

I don't have any loyalties for brands per-say, but I do look at the EPA & DHA content when making a decision. If you're interested in buying Fish Oil / Omega 3 supplements, you really should educate yourself on what EPA/DHA is and their roles in the body. That's primarily what makes the difference between snake oil and a decent fish oil. Other factors (if you care) are the purity of the oil… I generally don't like the capsules because to get the daily intake of DHA/EPA you generally need to take a lot of them. 2000mg of fish oil is meaningless, you need to look what's inside it.

For capsules, I do like the Blackmore products, during my wife's pregnancy I had her take Blackmore "Omega Brain" for 9 months. This is very high in DHA which is great during pregnancy for herself and the baby's cognitive development. But it's not a cheap product. I had her take 2 of those a day for 1G DHA daily.

I'm no expert so take my words with a grain of sand. Just another ozbargainer who took an interest to Omega 3 and DHA specifically because Dementia runs in my family and DHA has strong links to that disease.

What one person needs from a fish oil supplement will vary from the next.

EDIT: And I can't rate this deal because I couldn't find the EPA/DHA measurements of the product. May be good, may not.

      • forgot to mention in my post, its BLACKMORES
is this brand big enough? XD

      • that's a good call…

  • Does fish oil actually do anything? Or is it another one of these homoeopathic gimmicks that keep popping up? I don't mean to offend anyone but seriously, what does it do?

    • you do know how many scientific evidence is on it. this is not one of those bs supplements out there. this one is fully legit.

  • Woolworth is currently selling Blackmores Odourless Fish Oil 1000mg 400s for $14.49. I bought 3 today.

  • Be warned these things are massive!
They are actually double the dose because they are double the size not more concentrated or something.

Missus got us some of these a while back and they are pretty uncomfortable to swallow and if you mis-time it you bloody near choke!

So of course I whinged the whole time but at this price looks like I will be getting a couple more jars.

  • How many tablets per day??

    • 5x2000mg capsules a day.
