Samsung 27" - LED Monitor S27B350H $199 at DSE Pakenham VIC

490

Went to Dandenong DSE to pick up two those 24" Samsung specials (website said they had them in stock) only to be told Pakenham was the closest store.
20 Mins later in Pakenham I end up with an even better deal - $199 for a 27" LED screen. It was a managers special so not sure if this is available at other stores - try a price match?

cheapest on static ice was $288.96

    Price in title.

  • 1080p or 1440p?

  • +4

    1920 x 1080 bleh

    • So what's considered a "good" ratio in this day and age for monitors this size?

      • +3

i wouldn't look at anything less that 1920 x 1200 - the extra screen real estate vertically is so much better than 1920 x 1080

        • +2

19:10 is something you should avoid, imo.

          1080p or go 1440p (Korean PLS/IPS).

        • +7

Why? For anything but watching movies 16:10 is preferable. The whole 16:9 thing was driven by HD TVs and is not ideal for desktop work.

      • +7

        2560x1440 for 27" in my opinion. 24" for 1920x1080.

        • But then you're paying 2/3 times more for your 1440 monitor. at 199$ hard to fault it

        • Those Kogan/Korean/Apple seconds panels offer great resolution 27 inch displays, are LED and IPS, for around $300.
I'd go for a far superior panel at a discount price direct from an online store rather than an inferior panel from a local store where the sale price is in comparison to the overly inflated premium price.

I'd get one at this price if I didn't have to work too hard and try to convince DS staff to give me one.

What's up with the red bezel?

I wonder if that'd make people red with anger much quicker, i.e. ragequit in games after chucking a tantrum lol

    • +1

I saw that in person in the store (or at least the one for the 23"). Not a good look.

      • I like the old black bezel look.

  • is it actually even worth it to get this monitor… went into the store today the screen looks like cheap plastic..

    • +1

To be fair, it IS cheap plastic.

Note that this does not have a VESA mount, so you're stuck with the stock stand whether you like it or not.

    • Used Samsung for years, then they had the brainwave not to have a VESA mount on a lot of their new stuff.

      Useless to me…

Few days ago i got it for $137

  • -5

    It has shit inputs

    only
    -vga
    -hdmi

I rather they just kill off vga
    or give us 2 hdmi

    • +2

What would a monitor need with 2 HDMI inputs. It's not like it's an LED television.

      • I commend your grasp on the English language, how refreshing to see someone write "an" correctly before an acronym : )

        • well I just learnt something.

        • +5

Yes, but what about the invisible question mark?

        • +4

          Who cares about question marks.

          Who cares about question marks?

          FTFY

      • +3

Never wanted an xbox460 or ps3 or even an external bluray player plugged into the monitor at once to switch between?

      • +1

Some of us want to connect our xbox/ps3 or future gaming consoles

  • +3

    The price is very good.
I run a two monitor set up with one of these and one 27" 1440p shimian, the shimian just puts this to shame, much better monitor, the Samsungs pixels are too big and the matte finish looks average.

    • How much did the 1440p shimian cost ya? $800?

      • $400 shipped, arrived in 2 days via EMS. spent a little extra than the $320 ones on a "pixel perfect" model, meaning its been checked for no dead pixels. there a really good buy, have not had a single problem with it since i bought ~ 8 months ago

Makes me wonder why they design a 27" monitor with crappy old VGA video input yet neglect to put DVI on it which is what most people would be using. What were they thinking.

Also this is $199 a ridiculous price if it's even true. Same monitor is $366 at Officeworks.

But i haven't heard of any one else getting one of these monitors from Dick Smith for $199?

    • that's my point vga is dead..

most new gpus don't have it.

      I prefer dvi and hdmi

so I can connect gaming consoles or another pc etc.

      • VGA? The yellow, red and white cables type input for a 20 years old monitor? How did Samsung come up with this idea when it is near non existence for almost all flat screen lcd monitors?

  • I can think of a couple of good reasons for 2 or more HDMI inputs, and in fact have lamented the lack of multiple ports on mine.

  • As mentioned was orginally going to get 2x24 for some infinity action to match my 2494HS. I admit crappy plastic and no vesa mount, but 27" at this price is too much a bargain so I did a massive impulse buy. I bought 2 at first, I've got a 30" and thought about 2 on each side, but the 305t wont do 1920x1080 so ended up with another 1…. (Thats the receipt I scanned)

For gaming its fine and 3 is ALOT of real estate! It was an umpulse buy and now messing around with active display link and profiles. No idea why they're selling so cheap TBH

Not sure what everyone means by the bezel either. its got a red led and not blue but def no red bezel?

  • Anyone else other than OP managed to snap 1 please let us know if all dse stores have the same offer?

    • like most of these dse deals.

      mostly likely NO!
