Here's an update of Lenovo's exclusive coupon that we ran in March/April. As most of you would know that Haswell has been revealed, and the new line of laptops are going to be released. The current lineups are in clearance mode, and Lenovo has provided us this coupon code to get $130 off from ThinkPad EDGE E330 13.3" laptops.

Code: OZBPCQM1

When you go to the ThinkPad EDGE E330 page, pick the one in the middle (Part Number: 3354CTO). Here's the spec:

  • Core i3-3120M
  • Windows 8 or Windows 7 Home Premium
  • 13.3" display (1366x768)
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 320GB HDD at 7200RPM
  • 6 cell battery
  • 1.8kg
  • 1 Year warranty

As suggested by unyilusro in comment, this is probably a better buy. Select the right most model on the E330 page and then apply the coupon code to get $145.72 off. Final price $503.28 and you get the following upgrade:

  • i5-3230M
  • 500GB HDD at 7200RPM

    ……Scotty does know !

    • too predictable

I have this laptop with the i5 and 500GB HDD. It's a nice, lightweight portable machine with a fairly good keyboard.

  • PowerBuy IT has a $120 Cashback on Edge Laptops. Problem is you have to buy from a store other than Lenovo directly. If anyone finds a cheaper price from another store, do let us know. :) http://www.powerbuy.com.au/lenovo-thinkpad-edge/

can it be customised with SSD, either from leveno or afterwards? pc without ssd just isn't worth it

    • +1

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like it's fairly easy to change out the HDD for an SSD - http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/product-and-parts/detail.pag…. Also it has an mSATA slot but I'm a bit hazy on what I could do with that - if I installed one (like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3b91U6Fa2o) then could I move OS to it?

      • I think you could, or you can use one as a cache.

      • +1

There's also a thread mentioning this on Whirlpool http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1991009 - seems it's not as straightforward as thought to install SSD. If I buy this I might get a 120GB mSATA instead.

    • You will need to buy a 7mm SSD for this one, like Intel 520 series.
Just create a recovery media from original hdd, then swap the hdd, load the windows back again. Or let a tech guy do it for you.

    • +1

See my previous comment — basically you can either install a full 2.5" 7mm/9mm SSD or a mSATA SSD. There are YouTube videos on how to open this up and doesn't seem to be a lot of work.

    • for Scotty……. i mean lenovo good deals

    because of him i got a lenovo which i don't need…… not sure it's a good thing or not…..

    • +3

Will it sit nicely beside your Eneloops and Cree torches?

      • haha

  • +11

pick the one with i5, u'll get better CPU and more HDD space for $503.28.

    • ^^ This! Scotty, suggest this option as well in the main post. Adding components to the mid end one seems to be a lot more expensive that picking this one.

      • +1

        Yeah updated the description.

  • Im not sure if I have the 3110 or the 3120 i3, but thumbs up on everything but some mild gaming

  • Love the current E series for making it so easy to access the CPU/RAM/HDD/etc for upgrades or maintenance. Hope they keep a similar design for their Haswell range.

E330 is quite solid from what I've read. E430/E530 however suffered from the pulsing fan noise issue that is still unsolved after many months. Lenovo is now selling E431/E531 though on their website with hopefully the fan issue fixed, but that thing has those huge 5 button touch pad. Great for touch pad users, but not TrackPoint users :(

  • I still hate that little red dot mouse thingy.

    • +2

      me too..

    • +17

Well… you can pick up some pretty useful skills after using it for a while. Lets just say the ladies love thinkpad users.

      • +1

        i get ya omgwtfbbq.

      • Well that little red dot ain't nicknamed the 'G-Spot' just because it's to the side of the G key.

        • +1

Oh I thought it was the clitmouse.

I just modified one, and got this saving! just upgraded the HD.

Intel Core i5-3230M Processor (3.20GHz, 3MB Cache, 1600MHz) with Intel HD Graphics 4000
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    13.3" W HD (1366 x 768) LED, AntiGlare, Arctic Blue (w/WWAN)
Intel HD Graphics (WWAN or mSATA capable)
    4 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav without FingerPrint Reader
    500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    6 Cell Lithium Battery (E330)
    ThinkPad b/g/n Wireless & Bluetooth 4.0 (1x1 BGN & BT 4.0)
    Integrated Mobile Broadband (Ericsson H5321)
    None
    1 Year Depot/Express Warranty

    • How does these specs differ to the $503 one mentioned by uniylustro?

      • HD upgrade and Arctic Blue colour!

        • But uniylustro stated $503 included HDD upgrade…

        • Same price as the one above with 8GB RAM if use uniylustro way.

        • they must have a magic code then that's different to the one i used.

    • Looks like it's free to upgrade to Intel Centrino 2230 wifi adaptor for 2x2 wifi - would recommend that. Don't know if there's any benefit in paying $7.70 for the Thinkpad 2x2 instead.

      • +1

        That's what I was wondering.
I get $509.25 with i5 and the $7.70 wifi module. Would need to spend another ~$60 for mSATA SSD drive cache. Unless you wanna forgo the magnetic HDD all together I don't think there's much benefit in getting any more than 30GB in SSD drive cache. Now, do I click checkout button or not????

There should be some bargains around over the next 3 weeks with the combination of new Intel CPUs and EOFY sales.

Damn! Just ordered an E330 on Friday for $500 :(
Have emailed Lenovo to see if they can help me.

    • +6

      An update:
      Lenovo is awesome <3
They have agreed to give the the $50 discount for my Friday purchase. Very happily with the service!
Mum will be stoked when the extra money goes towards getting an mSata drive for her new laptop!

      • +1

        Accidentally negged u sorry.

  • Just got one! I tried twice as a guest and right at the end it didn't like the coupon… May have been that I added a usb DVD drive? So I ended up creating an account and not adding the DVD drive and it has worked :)
    Thanks Scotty!!!

  • +1

Just got one… will use it as my new Kali box. :) Dropping the OS for some further $-savings would be wicked!

    • Have been thinking…is there such a thing as owning too many computers though?

      I have the following:
      1. A beast of a desktop
      2. Dell studio that I use as my linux box (from work)
      3. Dell vostro 3550 from work
      4. Macbook pro 13" that's been tricked out (256GB SSD + 16GB of RAM)
      5. N40L running as a NAS and Usenet machine
      6. A jailbroken ipad2 that I use primarily as a "bed-browsing device" + XBMC

And now this… (intend to replace #2)

      sigh

      • +1

        I won't call (6) a computer… until jailbroken :)

You also have computers for/from work (2 & 3), computers from home (1 & 4) and a NAS that sits around doing all the background job (5). I guess it's not bad, but certainly far from excessive.

Personally I have one computer for work and home (a ThinkPad T-series), an old Dell Inspiron to run the latest Ubuntu, a QNAP NAS with chroot Debian to run all the background jobs, and about 10 VPS around the world doing different stuff :P

        • YAY! Thank you. Feel a lot better now. Kindred spirit. :)

"10 VPS around the world doing different stuff :P"

LOL. Are you taking part in HD Moore's "lets scan the interwebz" project? :P I only jest. Don't tell me if you are. Plausible deniability. ;)

    • I was reading up about Microsoft Windows Operating system program licences a while ago, and remember something along the line that you can opt out of the windows operating system that is installed on a newly purchased computer via a rebate directly with Microsoft. Not many people know about this, as it is not really advertised. Sorry I can't help with a link, good luck.

  • Keen to see what the Haswell updates of the X230 and X1 series have in store…

  • Just wondering whether this laptop can connect to a Full HD monitor, I mean whether the graphic card can support FUll HD?

    • +1

i3-3120M has Intel HD Graphics 4000. Also spec from Lenovo:

      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=PD024702#v…

      Max external resolution: 2048x1536 (VGA)@75Hz; 1920x1200 (HDMI)@60Hz

      • Thanks, Scotty. Place my order of i5+8GB Ram at $571, it is very good deal. Have been struggling to justify a new laptop on the existing two laptop + 2 tablet + 3 smartphone, but can't resist it finally…. BTW, any idea of the delivery time?

        • It depends… I think it would have told you the estimate in your purchase history?

        • Ordering extra RAM from Lenovo for ~$60 makes you look like a Gumby (not a good look on ozbargain). The going rate for 4GB soDIMM is about $30.

        • lol… I just aware that 4GB ram is a bit pricy, but it really only cost me $30 after considering the tax benefit and GST rebat :)

        • not yet, called the helpdesk, the gril said around Thursday …

  • So I almost made a purchase but realised last minute that it does not have a DVD drive. It seems like an additional option for the drive for $47. Could be a deal breaker.

    • +2

Not for most though. What would you use a DVD drive for though? (except for DVD movies)

      • +1

Ironically, Intervideo WinDVD does come preloaded on this thing.

  • +1

    Ordered. Thanks Scotty!
I was tempted to get the XPS 15 deal but couldn't justify myself spending over a grand for my pc # 5.

  • Anyone know if they've changed the touchpad from the E320 model yet? That touchpad was horrible.

  • Cheers Scotty..ordered the same as nickyd84 except went on a whim with windows 8 just to see what its like..think I might bung an SSD in it to give it some extra zip..maybe the plextor @ msy.

    • I believe you should get the mSATA SSD as the normal SSD can't fit in..

      • No. It uses the standard 2.5" SATA3 drives. However get a mSATA if you want to have two drives.

        • Thanks Scotty, I was meant to say that. :) I read some articles saying it cannot replaced by the SATA SSD. I might be wrong then.

  • If i get a mSATA drive I don't think I can use the mobile broadband as it takes up the same spot as the Ericsson H5321. I decided on Centrino 2X2 and not the Thinkpad 1x1.

    • Did you choose the w/WWAN option which is $88 extra? The Centrino 2X2 should't occupy the slot. I picked the Centrino 2X2 as well after reading a few threads.

  • Yes I did choose the w/WWAN option but I didn't mean the Centrino 2x2 would occupy the slot for the Ericsson H5321 however I thought that maybe the mSATA would. I chose the Centrino 2x2 instead of the Thinkpad 1x1 which was different to what nickyd84 chose. I plan on replacing the 500GB with a 2.5 SATA just like what Scotty suggested.

  • Thank you very much, scotty and unyilusro! Was in the market for a decent lappy for everyday tasks and this (i5 E330) should do suit me just fine.
    Cheers!

  • Put the order in, tried to pay with my credit card a few times and it rejected it. Nothing wrong with my credit card. I then tried to ring up for credit card support option 1, the phone went dead, tried again to call used option 2 and it hung up too.

    I will look elsewhere.

    OMG
What happened is that it has gone into there system three times. I would be very careful about using their site.

  • Hey guys great deal, any chance of knowing how long this deal will be going on for?

    • Until the end of June from what Lenovo told me.

      • Thanks mate

  • Whoever reported that this is "out of stock" and got one of the mods to mark it — sorry the deal is still available (just tested).

  • Hey everyone,

Quick question. I just received my laptop today (yippee!) and have had enough of Windows 8 for now. I'd like to wipe it and install Kali (Debian) on it. Although just to be safe, I'd like a copy of Win 8 as a back so that I can restore the lappy to it's pristine factory settings. Not sure how I can do this (other than imaging the HDD

    • There should be a way for you to create restore disc / USB drive from ThinkVantage.

    • how long did it take to get to you from when you ordered it ? i want to get one to take with me on holidays

      • I ordered mine on the 3rd and received it on Thursday (13th). It ships from Shanghai.

        Hope that helps?
