Samsung TecTiles 5 NFC Tags Pack $1 @ DSE in-Store

40

Went to DSE after lunch and found this deal, 5 Sasmung TecTiles NFC tags for $1. I went to the Glen store in VIC, they have around 5 packs in stock. (I took three while I was taking the picture, after that I realized it isn't compatible with Galaxy SIV then I put them back).

This tag uses a MIFARE classic chipset, it only works with phones have NXP controller on-board. This tag IS NOT compatible with most of the recent phones / tablets. It is compatible with Samsung Galaxy SIII and Note II. I believe it is also compatible with whatever phone has a NXP NFC controller.

BTW, I believe 5 Tags are enough (three for home, one for office and one for car). 20 tags pack is a over-kill, I still have 15 sitting in my draw…

For these devices need a NTAG203 tag (Galaxy SIV, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 etc), please wait for the Samsung TecTiles 2 or here are the teleports to the right deal, (both were expired, just give examples for the right product)

  • Yeah it used to be $5 for five I think - there was a comment in one of the DSE posts. I'm just waiting for another NTAG203 deal just not 1 per person!

    • Ali Express

    • That was my comment, now i am scouring stores for whats left.

      For me these work on

      blackberry z10
      sony xperia z
      samsung s3
      nexus 7

i dont have any other devices with NFC to try.

  • +1

Can someone give me a quick rundown of what these are good for?

  • Thank you for your research and posting useful info.

I am surprised to hear these work with the S3 but not the S4.
So along the same lines do the new tags e.g. NTAG203 still work with the S3? If so did they remove something from the S3 when producing the S4 to make these not compatible (NXP chip?)

    • I don't think so as my NTAG203 tags won't be read by my friend's HTC One.

  • The iCarte specs indicate NXP Mifare support, therefore looks like these would work with the iPhone and an iCarte with the NFC Tags app.

    • But my iCarte is locked (because I bought it second hand and it is locked to a phone & number combination) so I can't confirm it.

    • With an un-personalised iCarte cover, I am getting a generic read and write error with the NFC Tags app.

  • There are non left at North Sydney or Neutral Bay stores.

    • Just picked some up at Broadway. About 5 packs left?
