im looking for a new modem router to replace my 5 years old netgear DG834G.
      it has been dying recently.
i couldnt be bothered to have a modem and a router separately, such a mess.

these two have good value my friend says its stable and easy to use.
also with bandwith control based on IP, good for share housing!

      • Hey dude, I'm in exactly the same boat with the DG834G. Thanks for those recommendations. Will look into them. :)

        • haha no worries, i will never buy netgear again!

        • lol my netgear dgdn3700 is da bomb =) only time I reboot it is to let it have a rest every couple of months or if going away..

and can't really complain about itlasting for five years? man, ur a hard task master lol

        • haha. overall its alright.
but connection after reboot takes really long, and quicker with other brands.
          maybe its the model itself.
my friend has a cable modem + router from telstra and its ok. but expensive…was 149 i think. range is just ordinary.

        • yeah, once you start looking at dual band routers (able to operate at both 2.5 and 5GHz frequencies) the price is $100+

          e.g. http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=10516

the ones you've linked above are only the good old 2.4GHz band, which is what a lot of other appliances use and can cause interference with single band wifi signals. but then again, if your laptop/PC/mobile can only use 2.4GHz, then getting dual band is not required lol.

      • Bought this router for $30 the other day at msy and use it with a bridged DG834G. It seems to go a bit better, but yh it does look a mess.

  • Pretty good deal if you're willing to get there before they open. Whenever they have clearance items up people get there a couple of hours before they open and buy all the items.

In other words, get in early.

    • couple of hours before they open?! wtf, they set up camp there?

btw this sale happened before check the ozb links

      • they set up camp there?

        With their $10 tents.

    • Last time they had the N600 on sale, I bought it for collection the night before and went in that arvo, the guy that served me said they had absolutely heaps in stock, so it's not all doom and gloom.

This was at Balcatta MSY though.

  • There were plenty of the n750 when i bought last time.. And no limits…

I question how good the unit is…
I requlaly once a week have to reboot the unit.. When the family,s devices refuse to connect to it..

A reboot solves the problem.. However i rarely have to reboot any of the others….

I will upgrade the firmware at a later stage to see if stability improves…

  • Shame the N750 has gone up $10 from last deal. If it was $29 again I'd snap it up and give my N600 to my sister. The N600 has been rock solid as a 5Ghz AP.

    • poor sister.
so you are happy with the n600?
this is helpful for some ozbargainers who is struggling to buy or not.

      • Yeah very happy with it. As I said only using it as a 5Ghz AP as my Fritzbox 7270 is on the 2.4 band.

Works great, although I haven't done any testing in speeds as I only use it with my iPad and laptop. But range is good in my house.

        • Bought a N600 last time. Work fine, solid connection and no rebooting required.

the N750 is quite good, four gigabyte port and 2 usb, I connected my spare usb disk on the router and using it as a simple NAS. at $29, it is definitely a bargain.

  • I also have a netgear DG834G. I bought a tp link wireless router. having trouble bridging the though. are you using dhcp from the netgear or the handing control to the new router. I cant seem to get the two to ahare Internet connection. any help or links will be appreciated

    • disable the DHCP on tp and enable on netgear.
to test bridging, press win+R on keyboard, and type cmd.
use ping 192.168.0.1 (address for netgear for example) and see the results,
also use ping 192.168.0.2 (address for tp for example) see if it works.
if it shows results it has been successfully bridged.
