    Not 4G version

    • Yea well OP doesn't say it is?

    • +2

JB had the 4G version for $499 last week. Better specs and better phone.

      • But not better price.

        • Well you are most likely not going to get a higher spec model S3 4G for less than a lower spec model S3 3G.

        • Some people don't need 4G and would rather save $50 because they aren't in 4G covered areas.

          Me for example.

Not that I'm after an S3.

I think $499 is expensive for an S3 4G when only days ago an S4 4G was under $600 at shoppingsquare. Much better specs, better screen, more features, faster.

      • According to their website it is still $499 for the 4G model. So that should be $474.05 for the 4G model from Officeworks.

  • +3

    Lol,
Kogan have the 4G version for $439, But its sold out.

    http://www.kogan.com/au/search/?keywords=galaxy&keywords=s3&…

    • +3

kogan has been sold out for months, trust me I've been checking every day.

  • Saw reviews on YouTube, THL W8 is as good if not better than s3 for hlaf the price.

    • +1

W8 has its fair share of issues. Weak wifi, GPS takes a bit to lock, and no proper warranty.

I had to RMA mine because it's camera stopped working and nobody on XDA forums could figure out what was wrong with it.

      • So you're sending it back to DX and they're giving you a refund or a replacement?

      • And the W8 Beyond has just been released for around the same price. Full 1920x1080, 1.5 quad core. I managed to snag one of the originals for half price and was very impressed with it. Compromises are certain at that price point, no doubt, such as no Gorilla Glass, but overall it was an impressive package.

        • where did you buy it if you don't mind me asking?

  • just beware of the failure rates of the SG3,
    http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/155tw0/galaxy_s3_ma…

I also found a site showing that the SG3 was the king of failure rates, but I couldn't find the link. I thought it was referenced on the linked reddit page…

    • i agree. i have two sg3 i bought late last year from kogan. both of them had faults of some kind.

    • But if there's been a new hardware revision, then it shouldn't affect the newer batches of phones.

Still, there is a possibility that you might buy a phone that isn't fixed.

    • -7

I have observed the same from friends. I don't understand why everyone is such a fan of these phones, and everytime there is a $1 price drop there needs to be another deal posted. I think they are overpriced. You can get an LG P880 for $150 less, which has equivalent specs.

      • +1

Except that LG hardware is completely shit.

        • -1

Ever owned one? Samsung statistics are not exactly favorable, which is what this comment was about.

        • I have. Owned a viewty. Thought it was worse than dog crap. The screen was terrible and so was the functionality. The google nexus 4 seems to be a big improvement from LGs of old, old samsung flip phones had rubbish battery life, but samsung have made big strides from pre-smart phones.

statistics only mean so much in the end, if you have more SGS3s, you'll have more failures. But there definitely would expect to be issues because they had trouble keeping up with the demand, that they had to open a manufacturing plant in vietnam?

I had an SGS3, it was great. But there were apparent software issues and bluetooth/reception/noservice issues. No phone is always perfect

    • +1

According to reports on XDA, the "Sudden Death Syndrome" (SDS) shouldn't be a problem for newer batches as there has been a revision fix. The phones that are affected are the ones which were manufactured prior to December with the older 0xf1 NAND firmware. Unless the store is carrying really old stock, it shouldn't be a problem.

      • Except that dse's stock probably move fairly slow given its normally ridicualous pricing.

        • latest firmware has been assumed to patch SDS. Been following the issue for a while and the reports of SDS on latest firmware have dropped off to pretty much none

How do you check for this? Call them?

      • +7

        magic!

      • +2

he probably made a program to automatically check all stores

        • +11

Yes, I made a program to check all stores.

I'm happy, I satisfied myself that it could be done.

I thought folks might like a nice list of stock levels for all Dick Smith stores at once.

Judging by the negs that was a mistake. I'm sorry 'bout that.

        • Can you share us the program? Hehe.

        • i would like the program as well :)

  • I don't get it, what's with the negs?

If you're buying from OW, you could buy giftcards with ing paywave to get another 5% off- would make it ~$403 :)

    • you cant do this at dicksmith?

      • +1

You price beat DSE from OW 5%, then you get giftcards at OW via ING another 5%.
        Duh.
If you do it at DSE you only get 5% from ING if you pay via giftcards/spilt payments.

        • nvm! i just remember my calculation is with staff discount card so OW or DS doesn't really matter to me

        • Can you use your staff discount card at ING for 10% discount?

        • why not?

  • works out to $386.05 after claiming GST credits, thanks OP, great find.

  • +10

Sometimes I wonder if DSE have these discounts just to f*ck with OW…

    • well most office work dont have stock for this phone

  • +1

wow….not a bad price. wish there was S4 for sale.
only discovered site a few days ago & boy the comments are great.

petty missed out on the recent SG S4 discount promos :(

  • vaya mobile still has it at 400,with one month fee, 425, white only though

    • one month fee???

  • +1

c'mon drop it to 300+ range already :p

    • I could have sworn I'd seen imports at below $400.

      • +1

The 4G version was $379 delivered from Kogan a month ago, don't think that'll happen again any time soon with depreciation of the Aus dollar.

With that said, this is good price for local stock.

        • mehhh mobile phones depreciate too :|

        • +1

True, but only by so much, considering gs2 is still been sold for $300(ridiculous, I know), chances are retail price of gs3 won't drop much further.

        • +1

Is Samsung still making them, or are they just leftover stock? Kind of weird to have S2, S3, and S4 in the marketplace at the same time. Next year there will be 4 S models to choose from.

  • +6

Pretty good find. Always good when OW price match. If there's ONE huge benefits of the SGS3 over the S4 its the FM radio chip….Extremely hard to believe the retards over at Samsung think that making a new phone with better features can even consider leaving out a very common inclusion in just about every other phone in the FM radio chip…I always like that option there as I hate having to find THEN listen to buffered podcasts.

    Mod: Use selling/swapping thread

    • +1

Wow thats a really stupid decision on their part. Thanks heaps for the heads-up, was thinking of getting an S4 but I may just go with the S3.

    • Well that's only true for the 3G model unfortunetly!

I grabbed the i9305 (4G version with 2GB ram) and i was very disapointed to find it didnt have an FM radio.

  • Any one looking to price match OW in sydney..go over to South Strathfield Officeworks they have 2 more in stock as of COB today.
I had np in price matching it with DSE! :)

  • Buy coles myer gift card and use ing for 5% then use staff discount card for another discount.

    • +1

I am still trying to figure this out, do you guys buy $99 gift cards in batches of 4?

do staff discount apply to giftcards too? i.e buy a $99 value giftcard but charged $94.05

not too familiar with the t&c on ING :|

  • Just rang my local DSE who have 4 white 3G and he didn't know about the $447 and scanned a box and told me it was $547
and that the internet price was a mistake!!!!!!

    • +2

that guy was being a dickie as usual

  • +1

Just went to OW Hornsby (NSW), they are happy to price match and they have 2 blue ones in stock.

Found the more senior staff members to be more helpful as the younger staff were quick to dismiss the price match as a non identical item (even when the blue one is also on sale)

    Good Luck :)

  • I just bought one in the pitt st store. They have Blue only, and 1 phone left.

Cost was $424, they had no issues to beat DSE's price.

    Thanks for this guys!

  • +1

Just purchased a white one from dse carlingford, they have one white left and a few of the other colours lefts. Also managed to get te screen protector+cover for $1. Cheaper than ebay

  • Got two 3G's from OW today, just waiting for them to charge up so I can have a play.

  • well officeworks refused to price match, they say it's just one day sale;
then the 2nd day rang up told them it's not one day sale, then I can see the staff is trying to lie that they only have 4G model

  • This deal still on?

    • No, wish it was, current phone is giving me the shits.

    • This sold out pretty quickly from all the stores I contacted when the deal was still fresh. When I asked when they would be getting more, they said they were phasing out the 3G models and only stocking the 4G models. Not sure if this is official but.
