PlayStation 3 12GB Bundle with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves + Pro Gamer HDMI Cable for $179.00

650

I went today to Target Watergardens - VIC to get a PS3 Console Bundle for my daughter and when paying, the cashier enquired with the gaming dept that the bundle was coming to $179.00 and not $199.00 and advertised in store and in Toy Sale Catalogue, the gaming dept rep advised that the priced has dropped. I got home and checked online and it does show a price of $179.00 for the bundle with Uncharted 2 and the same price for the console with HDMI Cable and Ratchet 7 Clank. 12GB is not much storage, but for my 8yr old daughter to play some games, watch some blu-rays and watch YouTube, this is perfect for her.

http://shop.target.com.au/p/playstation-3-12gb-bundle-with-r…

I know this deal has been posted but it was at a higher price and I am still a relative newbie to edit that post.

I know that this is not the cheapest price that a good bundle was available over the past 3 month or so, but like me if you missed out on the Skylanders bundle, I guess right now, this is "about" the best available.

Hopefully this will be usefull for someone !

    "Pro gamer HDMI cable".

Wonder how many people fall for that sh**.

    • +4

lots apparently, judging by how much money Monster is making

    • +5

The brand in this case is actually called "Pro Gamer", and they make a range of accessories. I believe this is a regular HDMI 1.3 cable.

  • is this a good deal for a ps3?

    • Well it is only a 12gb console, if you plan on storing much on there (lots of games require a fair bit of space to store local content so it loads faster), it might not be. As a bluray player + ps3 and free game, it's pretty good. I think you can add your own hard drive if you need to.

        ……..

      • is it compulsory to install games onto the PS3? or can you just play them off the disc?

        • Some have installs, others do not. If your worried about 12gig not being enough, it does not matter anyway, you can just shove a usb thumbdrive in there with another 16gig for like under 20 bucks or w/e they cost.

        • You can't install games on external storage, should just buy it and replace the HDD with something bigger for around $50.

  • Good find OP.
This is a great price for a 3D Blu-Ray player, media server, and gaming console wrapped in one.
The extras are a bonus as well. Obviously 12gb is a small HDD, but this would be perfect for the Bedroom !

  • Great price. Thanks for posting. I have a friend who will jump at this….has been waiting a long time to be at a price he can afford.

  • Excellent price! And yes, probably the best available price ever. BUT….for someone who already has a PS3 (albeit a 'fat' model), would I be better to wait for the PS4? Or get this anyway, and have a 2nd bluray player/2nd console for head-to-head gaming/2nd unit for another room?

    • i'd say wait for the ps4 unless your fat model ps3 is not functioning

    • Yeah, I'm waiting for the PS4 to be released before buying a 3rd PS3 for our lounge room. Already got one in the family room and another in the bedroom. I'll buy when it's <$150.

    • +1

Remember the PS4 isn't backwards compatible, so if you want to play the games you already own in another room, you may as well get another PS3. I'm not sure that the price will drop as dramatically as everyone thinks when the PS4 is released.

      • -1

Although there is no native backward compatibility, you will be able to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games on PS4 through Gaikai streaming service.

        • +4

          but at what cost?

        • well there are no firm details at all, but gaikai will be operating from 2014, its ps3 library first and in america only at launch, that to me translates into sometime in 2015 for us..and i doubt any of us will remember this thread by then…

        • +1

The way I see it is that no matter how magical Gaikai is, it won't be able to deal with my pooh internet.

Considering the PS+ subscription is required for MP on the PS4 chances are you will get PS+. PS+ gives you access to X many PS3 games so may as well have a PS3 console to play them on (and by the same argument a PS Vita).

Personally I intend on finishing my backlog of disc based games, selling them, and then just using the PS3 with digital content (via PS+) while I migrate to the PS4.

  • OOO What was the skylander bundle deal?

    • A while ago they had Skylanders Giants game bundled with a 12gb Super Slim for $150 on clearance, I assume all gone now, but surprised I occasionally see one in a cabinet (last was about 2 weeks ago though).

  • -1

If anybody in Victoria buys this bundle and doesn't want their copy of Uncharted 2 i'd be very interested in buying it from them. PM me if that's you!

    • may as well get it at eb for $19, considering postage

  • +4

I just wish Sony had updated the power circuitry on the super slim to reduce dvd/bluray power consumption when using as a playback unit. This thing chews about 70 watts when playing back a bluray movie.. A dedicated bluray player will use between 10-15 watts so that is quite a difference.

Price wise however, a $180 (PS3) compares quite well to a ~$150 3d bluray player and you get the benefit of being able to play games on it and a super fast bluray movie player as well.

I noticed MightyApe are selling original Sony Drive brackets ($15) to allow you to upgrade the 12Gb unit with your own 2.5" HDD/SSD. Or you can buy cheaper ones for $12 delivered from ebay (MA charge $4.90 shipping so you might as well bundle something else to it to make it worth the cost).

Who needs a ps4, when you can buy a ps3 so cheap, ps3= baragin, total beats ps4 in everyday, graphics arnt everything..

    • Who needs a ps4,

It's not about need, it's about want

total beats ps4 in everyday, graphics arnt everything..

http://www.bobborries.com/GSI/PS4compare.png they sure are pretty though :)

      • +1

The graphics on PS3 are really impressive considering the hardware they had to work with didn't change. Throw equivalent specs in a PC and it would be junk, but it's really about lazy programmers who simply leave it up to the PC owner to upgrade if needs be rather than optimising it for a lower specd computer.

      • @Tal_Shiar is that comparison accurate? My understanding was the PS4 graphics memory and System memory were the shared 8GB GDDR5 pool?

  • Using ING's 5% paywave may offer additional discounts, by splitting the transaction to under $100 payments.

  • eh, I'll wait another week until someone drops the crappy cable and game and its a standalone sub $150

    • These sales are usually cheaper than you will find it any other time of the year, but thats usually, not when a new one is about to come out, so goodluck.

  • there is another bundle with Ratchet and Clank if you prefer that over Uncharted 2….

    • ^that link is in the description already

      • ahh ok, thanks missed that bit

  • just grabbed myself one from Target roselands.. they dont have many uncharged bundles left

  • How can you check store stock on the website?

  • i am not a hardware guy, have assembled a couple of htpc's before. just wanna know if its easy to put hdd in this one as i have few previously purchased games on playstation network that i want to download.

could someone please post a link to 320 gig hdd fit for this ps3 ?

    thank you.

    • +1

i think you just buy a caddy as mentioned above and any 2.5" hard drive should fit

  • The link is showing $199 for me now. Was it definitely showing $179 before?

    • ….it was definitely $179.00…must have been a weekend special only.

  • Is this model no. CECH-4000A?
