You did see the price? Some people just want something cheap because they can't afford better.

Good for the kids? Its good for anyone looking to take photos. People seem to forget that photos are for capturing moments! Perfectly adequate camera for that. /rant

    • I perfectly agree with you, i just wanted to avoid postings like the one from tonyjzx that it is no good. I do realize that it isn't a DSLR but for that money …

$40 is cheap insurance when gives the kids no excuse to use your SLR.

A legitimate question would be: How much better is it than the camera in your phone?

      • It would have much better zoom, since most phones do not have optical zoom.
I'm guessing it will be slightly better than most, except for the Nokia N8, 808, and maybe some others like HTC One.

        • Plus if you give it to the kids there's no chance of them racking up huge phone bills on this.

A legitimate question would be: How much better is it than the camera in your phone?

There is no xenon flash in nearly all phones, so it will be better for freezing action than any LED flash. Typical phones win on convenience and often their better displays, not much else (but they are not even competing in the same price range seen here). A shame to see so many good compacts discounted, but that makes bargains for us.

Electronic image stabilisation seen mentioned here is just the typical marketing speak for no real image stabilisation though (high ISO is used in conjunction with a faster shutter speed, but this is to be expected at this price, and very few phones have real image stabilisation, even those priced far higher).

This has a 14MP sensor, which should result in less noise when downsampling to smaller resolutions and allow more scope for cropping, despite megapixel-hater talk. Lenses are genreally better in compacts than phones too, let alone the 4x optical zoom which you won't find.

Tactile controls on most cameras are better than touch controls, I reckon.

      • I find that cameras in phones are inferior, especially in low light/ night. Haven't tied the htc one, but my s3 doesnt stack up against my $100 panasonic camera I bought in 2010.

      • I am tired of people comparing real cameras with phone cameras.

Phone cameras have small sensor, inferior lense, no optical zoom, no xenon, pathetic battery life, and the list goes on. Yes there are a few phones meet one or two of the features above but the price tag would be 10 times of this camera.
