The Big List of Community Tips

This deal was first discussed on the forums by user Scaregdearimasu. If you haven't familiarised yourself with that particular section of OzBargain, I'd urge you to do so. Sometimes, deals crop up there, too.

13/07/13 - 7:06PM: I'm going to stop being so punctual about updating this thread. Steam prices have been shifting within the first 5-10 minutes of the 8-hour Flash Sales. Expect a 15-20 minute delay from now on.
19/07/2013 - 11:07AM: A few posts back, I mentioned punctuality and how it's better that I wait 15-20 before updating this post. Here's proof that Steam shifts their prices during the first 5-10 minutes.
22/07/2013 - 11:14AM: It would appear that Arma II: Combined Operations works out to be cheaper than purchasing the standalone product, Arma II. As this was the case, I have opted to update the deal with Combined Operations, a saving of $0.21.
23/07/2013 - 7:58PM: Barring no surprises from Steam's end, this will be my final update for this post. It's been a very enriching experience for me as responsibility over these updates required consistent dedication: To be able to post in a timely and efficient manner. I hope that I've served the community well these past ten days, and that I will continue to do so in the forthcoming weeks leading up to the Winter Sale. Happy Summer Sale.

The problem with companies that price match is that they are deferring taking any initiative and not lowering the price themselves. Subsequently, if we go for a price-match, the company that actually did take the initiative suffers. What do other ozbargainers think about this dilemma?

        • +13

They don't care. They just want to save a buck.

        • +1

In this case, I agree with you.
But pricematching doesnt always benefit the pricematcher and hurt the original company. Good example of this is getwinesdirect who frequently have deals with prices that are extremely low and likely below cost, and pricematching at dans or first choice actually hurts them

  • And the servers are down again. At least on that's what it looks like on my end.

    • nope, it's running.

    RIP credit card

  • Skyrim DLC is 50% off. Any other sites or is this the cheapest I can get it?

  • LOL, the STEAM CART service is D.O.A. Even when you get a game page up, you can't add it.

    • Error Code: -101

Unable to connect to server. Server may be offline or you may not be connected to the internet.

I think the server may be struggling

  • Dang beat me to it Heres a pic of the sales items at least on the frontpage

  • You're missing GRID2 from your Flash Sales list. I'm sure I've seen it cheaper elsewhere though.

  • 3:07AM Cards are for sale!

No they're not, it is just indicating which games have card support

Grid 2 & DLC is on the flash sale, I wanted to buy a DLC but the store kept timing out and I can't checkout my cart. Oh well, guess Valve has saved me $3.50 =)

Toki Tori (1) is available over at humble bundle weekly FYI - https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

    • Which you should grab soon if you're wanting to purchase Toki Tori 2, as the deal comes with 2 x 10% vouchers for that game.

  • will CS:GO ever be 75% off?

    • +1

hmm it's a pretty new game but it's also got a pretty low price to begin with being down to 5.00~ already.
Hard to say on that one. that being said if it does go 75% it'll only go down to 3.74 so the question is is the game worth 1.26~ extra to you?

    • +2

CS Complete is 75% Off. $7.50 is a bargain.

      • Agreed! Got one.

W/O the 75% off its $55 for all 4 games.

      • the thing is I already bought the CS pack for source some time before CS:go came out >.<
not sure if buying GO for 5$ is worth it.

I'm sort of hoping if it goes down to 75% i'll consider buying it

The Awesome Day 1 sale collection of info with multiple country pricing is up on reddit now!
    http://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/1i39qc/steam_summ…

  • Wow even though it's not going to run out of stock, server is already overloaded

    • yep fddos
friendly denial of service does that

      • anonymous is on a buying spree????

    • Kotaku ran an article about http://steamdb.info/calculator/ last night too and it went viral, which isn't helping, people buying stuff and people calculating are overloading the servers

  • Trine 1 and 2 on special!

  • Left 4 dead has been $5 pre sales, Looks like CS:GO the complete will be my only purchase, apparently theres more users residing in ZERO and SOURCE still.

    • That's because CS:GO isn't that good. It doesn't really offer anything new except for shinier graphics, but they tinkered with movement and firearm accuracy enough to make the gameplay worse than the previous CS games. The gun games are fun.

Also go to EB games buy a steam card in AUD, funds are in USD, pay for games with that.

With the aussie $ where it is this effectively gives you an extra 10% discount (or more depending on the price of the game and how much your CC company charge for currency conversion)

    • This ^

    • +2

Anywhere I can by Steam cards from other than EB? Really don't want to support those lot.
I think I read JB hifi as well was an option but I think I also saw this http://i.imgur.com/vxgDjl4.jpg
not sure if applies to us or them (USA) and in what denomination do they come in.

That's pretty funny they do this wonder why they still haven't migrated to a AUD store yet.

      • Yeah not sure, only seen at EB, they only print off a receipt like prepaid mobile phone vouchers so in theory they could sell from lots of places

        • Yep it's EB only unfortunately in 20$ and 50$ options.

    • Thank you, Spiritek! Bought a $50 voucher this morning which equates to $55.20 AUD. Great deal :D

    • I'm a little wary of keeping money on my steam account after someone took over my account a bit over a year ago. Someone in Eastern Europe was playing under my account for a couple of months (only games I had at the time were from the Orange Box too).

      • Enable Steam Guard

        • I have :)

  • Bought Counter Strike Complete (US$7.49) 75% off

  • +1

I hope css goes on sale 75%

    • Your best deal is the complete pack for $7.50. It's the best value buy out of all the cs games.

      • Yea I saw it soon after thanks. Thats a good deal for the whole pack

      • do you reckon the pack will be back down to 7.50 again :( or will it remain at 15 dollars?

        • Wait for last day of the sale.

    Sorry

The Steam Store is experiencing some heavy load right now. Please try again later.

Sick of getting this message every time I browse to a new page in the store.

  • +9

    To EVERYONE

Buy a steam card in JB hi-fi/Ebgames etc. Today's conversion rate is $.9169US to $1AU. So if you're buying a $5US game, you'll be charged $5.45AU!!

Steam cards are valued at US dollars but you pay the exact amount i.e. Steam card valued at $50US is $50AU rrp. Basically, they sell cards on parity in value. In other words, if you are buying $50US worth of games, you'll be saving $5AU if you use a steam voucher card

    • +2

Also remember the ING wave and save for 2-5% off at JB. Not sure if EB terminals has the paywave or not.

    • Thanks, just purchased $50 card, do you know if it expires if I dont use the full amount? how long is it valid for?

  • +3

Bioshock infinite is $29.99 in US store (AU store $39.99 US,both 50% off) and probably some of the other games
so use a US VPN (not entirely sure if this works)
Australia still getting ripped off as usual

    • +4

Or just buy from Amazon and use the 15% off coupon to get it down to around 25 bucks.

      • +1

        Just for reference:
Amazon 15% off coupon - gooncave
*Requires US address in account settings (use a random one from http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/)

      • What this guy said.

For those of you not familiar with the offer, Amazon are price matching everything on Steam and giving an extra 15% off with the promo code "GOONCAVE".

  • +8

Standard procedure so far - Everything has been purchased cheaper somewhere else 6-12 months ago. Steam is highly overrated in terms of it's sales and yet people fall for it every time.
    Please Check your prices people.

  • Left 4 Dead 2 is still the low violence version :(

If anyone has access to and happens to get the 4-pack of the non "low violence" version, I'd be happy to buy one off you.

    • +1

Try /r/SteamGameSwap and /r/GameTrade make sure to ask to a USA Version or just the High violence edition.
/r/Steamgameswap is for swapping steam inventory games only for first time users but /r/gameswap has no rules comparatively (swap for cash bitcoins ect.)

      • Thankyou! Managed to get someone to gift it to me.

        • no problem had to do that too a while ago still baffles me why they haven't done a re-release of the new one yet here.

    • I have a couple of extra L4D2 gore versions if anyone is interested in buying

      • How much you selling them for?

  • +2

    Sonic Hits Collection $15:

    http://store.steampowered.com/sub/26498/

Incl's 'SaAR-Transformed'. Worth it just for 'Generations'.

NB: "SUMMER SALE! Offer ends 23 July". Maybe wait until 22nd before buying as it might get cheaper?

  • +1

Yo Mods! Shall we pin this sucker to the front page?

    • It's already on the front page.

  • +3

Taking the risk on Skyrim DLC becoming cheaper

    • +1

I had Dragonborn in my cart but Steam kept failing when trying to pay. Now it's only 30% off so I'm back to waiting or looking elsewhere…

      • +1

Apparently the flash price sales will be back on the final day of the sale so you can try again then.

  • just picked up cs: go

whats the address for the Ozbargain Cs:GO server ? lol

perhaps a new clan ? [OZB]

    =) =) =)

    • Add me (beakeroo) I'll play for sure.

      • I'm in .. :)

        • I'm "Jagermeister" ill be on it tonight. Avatar is of a bottle of Jagermeister. Im at work atm cant add. PM me saying ozbargain so i have half an idea who you are.

  • +2

Gabe Newell gonna get bigger & richer after this sale. Must buy all of the games and support his expanding business girth.

    • +3

NOOO every time someone on the internet makes fun of his size he delays Halflife 3!! Stop it!!

  • +3

seems the flash sale has ended early :( CS:GO back up to $10.04 USD

    • +1

The sale started at about 3am, and it is now over 8 hours later so seems they finished at normal time.

It might pop up again though so just hold off till the final day to buy it either on an encore sale or whatever the standard discount is.

      • Isn't the encore sale only for the normal deals?

        • Probably but flash sales rotate around anyway.

  • +1

Is Cities:XL Platinum worth it at $7.50?

    • not really, the game still has a memory leak and lags badly if playing for long periods

  • Finally! Been waiting for Torchlight 2 to go back on sale after missing the last $6.79 sale.

    • its showing as 9.99, never seen it go down to 6.79. Is that on Steam? or through another site?

      • It was on steam from what I remember. About 1.5 months ago?

      • Saw it just then. Argh! Bought it for $9.99 the other day too. Oh well at $9.99 it's still a steal. At $4.99 it's an absolute bargain!

      • Also four pack for $15….

  • Missed out on buying Skyrim as I had an exam to go to this morning. Now I'm on holidays and have some time to play it but I have to wait until it's on sale again now :(

    • I read somewhere that the "cards" actually represent a Daily Deal sale, in which this case, is true for the Kerbal Space Program. If this is correct, then that means that tomorrow's daily deal, which is happening at 3:00AM 15/07/13, Reus should be next. Not sure if Skyrim has already gone through, wasn't paying attention back then, but regardless it should come back if not as a Daily Deal but on the final day of the sale. You'll know that it's coming up when it crops up behind the card of the day.
