The Big List of Community Tips

This deal was first discussed on the forums by user Scaregdearimasu. If you haven't familiarised yourself with that particular section of OzBargain, I'd urge you to do so. Sometimes, deals crop up there, too.

13/07/13 - 7:06PM: I'm going to stop being so punctual about updating this thread. Steam prices have been shifting within the first 5-10 minutes of the 8-hour Flash Sales. Expect a 15-20 minute delay from now on.
19/07/2013 - 11:07AM: A few posts back, I mentioned punctuality and how it's better that I wait 15-20 before updating this post. Here's proof that Steam shifts their prices during the first 5-10 minutes.
22/07/2013 - 11:14AM: It would appear that Arma II: Combined Operations works out to be cheaper than purchasing the standalone product, Arma II. As this was the case, I have opted to update the deal with Combined Operations, a saving of $0.21.
23/07/2013 - 7:58PM: Barring no surprises from Steam's end, this will be my final update for this post. It's been a very enriching experience for me as responsibility over these updates required consistent dedication: To be able to post in a timely and efficient manner. I hope that I've served the community well these past ten days, and that I will continue to do so in the forthcoming weeks leading up to the Winter Sale. Happy Summer Sale.

    • Darn I missed the civ upgrade for $5 and the 75% off the assassin creeds.

      • assassin creeds will probably get their own daily deal it was just a flash sale deal and I didn't purchase Revelations yet as it wasn't a Daily deal or a flash sale only AC3 was a flash sale but the rest where at 75% off though. Doubt they'll go lower but don't want to purchase high then find out 2-3 days later it went for less.

  • +2

Bought Skyrim Legendary, Serious Sam 3 BFE and Alan Wake Franchise.

That's me done for the sales. Got everything I wanted and about 6 games I didn't know I wanted lol.

    • +1

you say that now… sale isn't finished yet :P

I just got Amnesia…will probably not be able to get through it but my sister the game nut highly recommended it

      • Had a few friends recommend that to me also.

        • I think the brown safety pants are required :s

        • +4

          Amnesia…. what's that about again?

        • seemingly hiding from monsters in the dark, FPS style game but there are no weapons

        • +2

Lovecraftian horror. There are monsters. If they see you they will kill you. If you see them you will go insane. You need to hide. The darkness will also drive you insane. You are hiding in a cupboard. Is there even a monster there?

  • I'm able to get Civ 5 at roughly the US prices if anyone is interested. Just PM me while it's still on sale.

    • I was checking out the US store and most of the prices seemed the same? My work uses a US IP address, so I figure I could purchase on the US store. Shouldn't be a problem yeah?

      • Just add '?cc=us' to get to the store, you don't need an IP. What you do need is a US credit card to pay for it.

        • But can you login with existing steam account or do you need to create a new steam account? If using existing account, i've already loaded up my steam wallet.

        • The only protection is where the money comes from. It also doesn't matter which account actually receives the game, only the purchaser.

Note: In a few corner cases the purchased game cannot be used in other countries, but I don't think this is ever done with US versions.

        • money came from an steam voucher bought from EB Games

        • +1

The current payment method does not match the country of the store. The cart has been converted and the updated total will show on the next page. You may also review your cart here, or change your payment method below.

This is from the EB voucher.

Upgraded Civ 5 to Gold for $5, now just listening to the music… Awesome.

  • The walking dead community choice would be my prime pick today http://store.steampowered.com/app/207610/
Too bad the 400 days DLC didn't get a discount ;) that's all I need lol.

    Batmans are a good price
    AA: http://store.steampowered.com/app/35140/?snr=1_7_15__13
    AC: http://store.steampowered.com/app/200260/

Notables would be GTA and Dark Souls. But they don't comply with my $10 or less price so pass for me.

Dues Ex has been on that many sales it's not funny so I don't see much out of the ordinary with the price :p

    • both Deus Ex and Arkham City are sooooo good. have them already, actually replaying Batman currently (in between the new Tomb Raider) cos I love it so much

      • -1

I got bored of Deus Ex (in the Asian city level) and never went back to it. Add me on Steam Monkee. Same username as here.

        • found ya, Steam name 'eOnne' if anyone else wants to add me too

        • +1

Yeah I'm easy to find, just look for the muppet.

        • About to add you both :)

  • Picked up Dead Island GOTY edition for $5.

  • Day 7 is up http://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/1ihvkk/steam_summ…
Wow I'm mentioned a lot in the notes lol neat!

  • Do I buy Dark Souls…what's the verdict? looks painfully hard, but rewarding? eye brow raise …saying that GTAV is out in like 2 months and will take up most of gaming time then.

    • Yes.

It's not hard in that you need lightning quick reflexes but mainly because you don't know what the hell to do. It's surprisingly easy once you figure it out so don't read a guide on your first playthrough.

And get it from Amazon since it's cheaper.

    • +1

Painfully hard but rewarding is a very good way to put it. The whole concept is: You're already 'undead', so when you get killed it's more of a learning experience for you to grow and understand what you could have done better in that situation.

      Obligatory Dark Souls post:
If you're considering purchasing this, you should also consider downloading this mod which increases the frame rate of the game to 60, among a slew of other things you can find the mod here.
Be sure to alter the option files that are inside the download, as those allow you to optimise your gameplay.
Additional mods for the game may be found here, but require third-party programs

    • I just noticed GTAV hasn't even been officially announced for PC. That sucks.

    • Picked it up the other day, wish I had of waited, it is heaps cheaper on amazon at the moment

  • Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack for $7.49USD is pretty decent. Purchased.

    • You mean the Grand Theft Auto IV Complete Pack right?

Can someone quickly sanity check me here, think I am going mad…
Grand Theft Auto IV Complete Pack is $7.49 and
Grand Theft Auto IV is $12.49. The complete pack has everything that the more expensive base pack has plus more right??

      • +2

Yep, its insane. Or it could possibly be a pandemic where we are all losing it.

  • +1 for effort.

  • Vote for CS: GO, you know you want to :)

    • I did, I want a couple of mates to pick it up.

    • Well, lets just vote for the whole CS Package! =)

  • Anybody want to share the 4-pack for Torchlight II (i.e. $3.75/person). Need 3 other people, please message me if interested.

    • Yup +1. Can't seem to message you though for some reason. Have you found 2 other people? :-)

  • Yay CS:GO is back

    • and Complete Package is $7.49 again.

      • i missed it again =(

        • You'll get it on the last day.

        • It is so hard to play FPS with mouse/kb again after COD on PS3

  • Valve Complete Pack is $34 on the US store (Usually $100)
    http://store.steampowered.com/sub/29197/?cc=us

It's no longer available in Australia because it contains the uncensored versions of L4D1+2 but I'm still able to get it through a friend so if you're interested in buying it, let me know.

Can also get Civ 5 + DLC reasonably cheaper and a couple of other games.

  • Anyone else interested in a 4 way pack for torchlight 2?:-)

    • We have 2, possibly 3 already. So only space for 1-2 more :)
      Msg me or post here.

      • Have 3 now. Just need one more :-)

  • +2

Grid 2 comes down to about ~$25 at Amazon now. I'll wait until I can get it for $10.

  • wohoo!!! Counter Strike Complete back to $7.50,,

  • The whole sale ends @23/07/13, 3:00AM GMT+10? Right?

    • Correct.

  • Probably tomorrow will be the Encore sale most likely as that what they usually do.
(also the 2nd post cards are changing in between the 10 featured sales)
and after that it will be the end Today or tomorrow will be your last chance to purchase anything.
Debating to wait and see if AC/revelations will come on flash sale for more then 75% but probably won't and should purchase before the end of today. or today's sales will hold out for an extra amount of time tomorrow like they usually do… decisions decisions.

  • For those looking to score indie titles (Steam redeemable) see this deal: Green Man Gaming Indie Weekend Sale - up to 75% off Indie Games (Most Games 50% - 75% off) posted by easternculture.

    See: comment made below

  • Bit disappointed a couple of games I want haven't dropped to their 'Sale' price I saw
    earlier in the week. :(
ie 'The Secret World' Currently 25% off @ $22.49, Few days ago it was 50% off at $14.99.
I thought the last day all the prices dropped on items that were on sale…

    • Only the most popular deals return for the encore sale.

      • Dammit.

      • It may well show up in a flash sale, keep watching.

  • +1

Tomb raider is back to it's special price on Amazon. Just picked it up with the "gooncave" code for just over US$10.

  • Tomb Raider is also on sale from Gamersgate for $12.49 USD if that sale for it on Amazon ends.

    http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TOMB/tomb-raider

  • +3

Aaaaand it's over. Thanks a bunch for updating this post for the duration of the sale.

Now to save up for next time.

  • +3

Yes thanks all for your efforts. Now I have a collection of games to distract me from life/work/marriage/study/etc.

    • So true, although it turns out 62% of my games have never been played :/

      http://steamdb.info/calculator/

      • To be fair for me that includes a lot of games from bundles and games that I have played outside of steam. Even given this I'm at 31% unplayed, so I think that is pretty good.

        • 72 games, so far. I think I've played Half life 2, L4D2, Skyrim and FTL so far. I got plans though, big plans…

      • 69% of my games have never been played yet either = 342 games. It takes some time to play this many games.

        http://steamdb.info/calculator/?player=hollykryten&currency=…

  • The Steam summer sale may be over but the Gamersgate summer sale is still happening. Can buy lots of Steam activatable games on sale there. Such as Tomb Raider is $12.49 USD and Skyrim Legendary is $35.97 USD for those who missed out on the $30 deal on the Steam summer sale.

  • OK never mind both Tomb Raider and Skyrim Legendary are now back to full price on Gamersgate. But still keep an eye on Gamersgate since you can pick up Steamworks games for cheap on their summer sale that you may have missed out on the Steam summer sale for those who hadn't been made broke. :)

I only picked up Far Cry 3 Deluxe, Counter Strike Global Offensive, Sleeping Dogs, RAGE + DLC and i sold a game trading card for $2.49 USD and used it to buy the game FUEL for $2.49 USD so got that game for free. Wasn't planning to buy a thing on this years summer sale. Still hadn't yet tried a lot of my 497 steam games. Got to love those complete publisher packs from previous steam sales.

    • Quick Q: does amount from sold trading cards get given as steam credit & can it be transferred back to Paypal as funds to use elsewhere? I have a few I want to sell…

      • It is given as Steam credit. Transferable? I don't know. I sold some of mine and only got about 15c each. In some ways isn't it better to leave it as Steam credit because of exchange rates? ie you would be buying games in USD rather than in AUD?

        • Non-transferable.

      • Steam wallet credit and is not transferable to Paypal. Although you can use the wallet credit to buy any thing on Steam.

I was very lucky i received a Kerbal Space Program foil game trade card when i bought a game on the Steam sale. Those foil cards are rare and worth the most got a whole $2.49 for it. Turned the trading card into the game FUEL :)

        • yeah I've had 3 foils so far. 1 Skyrim (Summer Sale) and 2 L4D2 Foil Witches.
