  • I didn't know EB had access to refurbished iPads. Is apple softening up now that Jobsy has moved on?

Everyone BEWARE OF EB GAMES! I bought 2x brand new Motorola Xoom 2 from EB. 6 months on one stopped charging. Contacted Motorola for repair under warranty. "Sorry Sir, EB Games is not an authorised seller. Your warranty was immediately void when you purchased from them." I call EB & they will at least refund but because I bought it on special I can't replace it without shelling out more coin. Choice is get repaired at my own cost ($100+) , return (pay for postage) & buy new one at increased cost ($100+). So to all of my OzBargain friends I say BEWARE OF EB GAMES!

        • +5

You are entitled to ask for replacement. Ring your state consumer agency for advice.

  • These are refurbished by EB, what does this mean for quality of reburbishment?

    • +16

I imagine it probably means they wipe it over with a dust cloth.

  • +2

Check the serial number on apple site before buying, just to see how old they are.

    • +1

Where's the serial number on EB's site?

  • Would these include trade ins?

    • +1

I think these are trade-ins, but EB is using some creative language to refer to them as refurbished.

  • I know some people have had bad experienced with buying refurbs from EB Games, but my two purchases were alright. Guess it's a matter of luck sometimes.

  • Do these come with brand new housings like Apple ones do?

  • +2

At least they actually sell them as 'refurbished' products this time rather than pretend they're new (unlike the 'new'-but-actually shop-soiled, opened and by the looks of it, kicked around the warehouse floor Samsung Galaxy tab I bought my wife at Christmas and then had to call the ACCC before they would agree to take it back).

The moral of this story: don't buy anything from EB. They're shifty b*****ds.

Just bought the 64gb mini and going to sell my wifi only one on eBay. Thanks OP!

  • -1

Lol at whoever bought one. There's gonna be a lot of disappointed people. These aren't Apple refurbished.

    • -3

You don't know that & you should keep your negative slander to yourself. Even if you do happen to have some story to back it, you are what .000% of the population?

Not everyone who buys refurb/second-hand/pre-owned is always going to get a bad deal.

I've bought plenty of pre-owned stuff and never had a problem, including games & a PS2 Console from EB, no problems whatsoever. And do you think iPad's are poorly constructed devices do you?

I'm sick of everyone on OzB jumping on the negativity bandwagon, what's wrong with you people?

      • +1

I was merely referring to the differences between an Apple refurb and a sucker refurb. Apple refurb is probably the best and most consistent you can get and you would never know it's been used.

Sucker refurb is mentioned above, wiped with a cloth then resold.

Anyhoo, probably best you do something about your anger issues. You're going off your brain at anyone who doesn't agree with you.

        • +2

But he is right… You do only make up .000% of the population. But this is because his calculator is probably from EB and only goes to 3 decimal places!! ;)

This is a joke, no bargain here.
i bought an iPad retina, 64gb, wifi NEW from Myer last week for $700

EB have the "refurbished" same version for $699…..why would you bother?

It's better to compare Apples with Apples, only the 3G/Cellular ones are on Sale at EB and:

The iPad 4 Retina 64GB with 4G (LTE) is $679
      https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-160559-iPad-with-Retina-Displ…

You cannot compare the price of a cellular vs a non-cellular (wifi only) in any device. There is usually a variation of anywhere between $50 and $150 difference!

Edit: in plain terms, the one you linked to is not discounted (no 20% off)

      • Never was comparing 3g/LTE to wifi???
stating fact as i was comparing new wifi to refurb wifi

However, under closer inspection now see that the refurb 3g are a fair price, for a refurb.

Anway apple store will price match new ipads, not sure about refurbs but worth a try.

        • I don't think Apple will price match. These 'refurbs' are trade-ins. Also, I think Apple only price matches at physical stores and I don't believe they stock refurbs.

        • It looks as though EB are about 11% less that Apples refurb pricing.

          http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad/ipad…

When I was talking to one of the sales guys at Fountain Gate Apple store in melb, he had no probs matching an advertised price on a new ipad, I never asked about refurbs as i was buying new.

        • Not saying you were comparing the two, just saying that it's not possible because this sale doesn't include WiFi, which is what you bought.

        • -1

You really should edit/retract your original (unfair) statement

This is a joke, no bargain here.

          and then

However, under closer inspection now see that the refurb 3g are a fair price, for a refurb.

    • +1

Fair enough on the wifi only, but the deal is regarding 3G models.

      Edit: Beaten by Nismo.

So people trade their iPads in at EB games?
Surely you would get way more return using ebay.

    • Yes, but rightfully so, some people are scared of FeeBay!
I've had 400+ good experiences, but also a couple of very bad, and recently 1 very costly experience funnily enough involving iPads!

  • Preowned Guarantee:
If this product stops working within 3 months of purchase, simply return it to any EB Games store along with your receipt, and we’ll happily exchange it for another copy! This product may not include original packaging or instruction manual.

3 months is pretty piss poor compared to Apple's 1 year!!!
And like others have said, what is their version of refurbished? Do they use genuine Apple replacement parts?

    • +1

Wow its only guaranteed to work for 12 weeks! Lol!

  • +2

    Are these from this promotion?

  • +1

I traded my 3rd gen 64gb 3g for $630ish cash at eb a few months back.
They had some bonus trade deal with ipads at the time.

I had just gotten it replaced with a refurb from apple and didnt use it.

    some lucky buyer out there.

  • No it wasn't,.. Would have grabbed one for $350 definitely though.
It was back in April or so,
Was thinking of trading my ipad mini 16gb 3G but the return on that was in the mid 400's so it wasn't worth doing.

  • Hi guys,

I just purchased an iPad using this promotion in-store. When I got home I realized the adapter included was for the iPod, not the 12W for the Retina.

Should I return the whole thing or ask for another adapter?

  • Hey Guys,

Mine arrived. Have checked online and it was only purchased in April so still under apple warranty. No scratches, I'm very very happy with mine!

    • +1

      Nice, good to hear.

I think EB games are doing the 20% off again, til tomorrow
