  • The web link is http://www.buyincoins.com/item/34210.html

I keep adding this link to the main post but it didn't appear.

  • Can I charge anything with this via USB?

    • +11

yes you can charge your adult toys

    • Yup

  • Are these things any good? The cheaper imported ones?

Been looking at buying one all day and can't decide..

    • +4

it will be shit - too small and light for the rated capacity

      • +1

You're right it does seem unrealistic, my uneducated guess puts this closer to 5000-6000 mAh. That said, for $10 I'm tempted to get one for my fiance, she will only need 1 charge on the go anyway.

My 10,000mAh is certainly superior to this one, though it cost a lot more too.

        • I've got one of these and they're not even close to being 12000mah. I've also got the Aldi 7400mah charger and it lasts 3 times longer. That said, you will get a full charge on an iPhone 4 or similar with this unit.

  • Hmmm… 12000… looks legit…

  • I would prefer a USB charger that uses AA's over this one -

I don't trust the power rating and from what I've read a lot of these kind of things use recycled laptop battery's which may have already been used and abused.

  • +2

    Looks familiar… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109348

And I've been trying to get a refund since.

  • +2

iv got one of these, they arnt 12000, no way, can charge my phone once. thats about it or my tablet 50% on the 2amp port.

  • +3

There's just one too many zeroes in the capacity number. Most of these things in this size/price range are 1000mAh to 1500mAh ish in capacity. For comparison, an iPhone 5 has a 1440mAh battery in it (with physical volume about the same as 2 or 3 AA cells). These gadgets are generally good for about one iPhone recharge, this particular one will probably bring an iPhone up to about 80-ish percent charged.

    • +1

After a bit more reading, I think I've been too generous. This device probably would bring an iPhone up to 80% charge, if the phone was at 30%-ish before you started! Still, ten bucks is reasonable for what it is. Good ones cost a LOT more.

      • for 10 bucks i bought one that is moulded as a back case for the phone and works just as good as a backup battery + protective case, great to have as emergency power when using the GPS +3G continously (which consumes the most power)

    • +3

Not true - most of these chargers in this size are 4000-6000mAh. It definitely can't be 12,000mAh though.

The dimensions given are 10cm x 7cm x 2.3cm. That's virtually the same size as my 5,800mAh charger. I know mine is 5,800mAh because I put the cells in myself.

As with all these chargers, the mAh rating given is for the cells inside, not the output of the charger. It doesn't take into account the losses in the step-up converter. From the tests I did on my Eneloop and Energizer power packs, the efficiency is about 70%, so when you see "5,800mAh" it's really closer to "4,000mAh". There are losses in the charging process as well (that's why phones get warm when charged), so the effective capacity in that sense will be even lower.

Assuming this is in the 4,000mAh range, one should be able to get at least two iphone 5 charges out of it.

  • I've been looking for a power bank. Since the consensus seems to be that this particular one is crap, can anyone recommend a good value one?

I had a look at the 11,000 mAh Kogan one… Anyone know if it's any good? Or have any other recommendations?

As a point of interest, here's what a real 12000mAh (12Ah) power bank looks like! :-)

    http://www.gizmocentral.com.au/lepow-u-stone-12000mah-lip-po…

    • it's damn HUUGEEEE, man!

    • that looks about right, thanks for the eye opener

  • I bought a Chinese USB battery rated at 13,000mah, call BS all you want, but I can charge my phone 4-5 times over.

    And it was only $30.

    • If its an iphone 4, that means about 5680 to 7100 mah

      Not bad for 30 bucks.

    • give us the link please…most of chinese seller on ebay, including this buyincoins, just want our money. their portable batteries are crap. only charge perhaps 50-80%. lucky if fully charged.
      I warned you.

you can try this seller btw

I linked the Coolook in a thread the other day - the other info and links I posted may be of interest to some: www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110273 The Coolook tests as having the best overall blend of qualities in my opinion.

Unit (without generic china charger) is available cheaper from bic than the price fasttech sells it for bare. Use a better quality charger - that you may well already own. Do buy the batteries from fasttech.

Even when issued a while back, bic almost always has a 5% coupon active at any given point. Save even more overall. A couple of bucks anyway. I've bought piles of stuff from bic - never not found an active coupon. If you're keen try 'KEXERJOE'. Let me know if it's still working.

if you take prices from both.

14.79x2 for the 3400 pana cells.
          13.24 case from bic
          total = 42.82

if you buy the 4-in-1 option without the charger from fasttech its 41.99
          http://www.fasttech.com/products/1420/10004471/1342300

found a coupon code for fast tech which works "BLF" less 2.10 from the 41.99 price makes it $39.89

        • Any veteran 18650 users that can vouch on the safety of these Li-Ion batteries?

Did some googling & read that some ppl nearly getting blown to bits w/ unprotected variants! Very disheartening if you ask me…don't want to have to worry about exploding batts when I just want to use them. Especially since the case above uses unprotected batts.

How do protected ones stack up?

Any safe trusted/tried & true chargers?

Makes me want to stay put with NiMh rechargeables.

        • Just stick with protected.

If you want to be very, very certain you're safe, you'd have to pay extra for a brand-name unit like Eneloop.

        • Didn't see the batteries-included option sans charger.
Particularly good buy if that coupon works. Good find.

Haven't you washed your socks yet?!

        • eneloop makes 18650s?! what? OO"

        • oh no no, brand-name unit as in a brand-name power bank, like Eneloop:
          http://www.eneloop.info/eneloop-products/mobile-booster.html

        • the blowups happened with bad cells (cheap cr@p) put in series in an air tight container (blows due to the pressure). these cases the cells are in parallel safer and not in an air tight container.

open up a laptop battery you will find 18650 cells.

also the protection is built into the case so it prevents overvoltage and undervoltage.

Are you refering to protected vers. though?

  • 10 bucks so no great loss if it turns out to be crap

    • OZbargain Blasfemy ! 10$ get you a lot of gadgets on ozbargain.

  • Hey guys, i actually bought this power bank from this seller before on ebay back in January 2013. Its pretty good actually, gives me about 3 full charge for my iphone 5. It cost me $18 that time. I think its a pretty good deal considering its only $10 shipped!!!!!

    Ebay link http://bit.ly/T6UFRS
(Sorry, im copying from my iphone, just go ebay snd search "12000 mah power bank" and cheapest. Shows me $10.79 shipped). So i think this is a pretty good deal.

  • buyincoins…. hmmm. I have bought 3 times of these kind of thing (5600mAh etc) from them and each time the item never arrived. Of course I got back from paypal, but just wondering why the item never arrived. 3 times unlucky?

    • Never had anything go astray from bic.
For a while towards the end of last year their were issues with China Post refusing to handle packages that exclusively contained lithium battery rechargeable items (powerbanks or individual cells). If that was the timeframe in question, your packages may have gone astray as a result.
Otherwise - dodgy mail handler somewhere, or general bad luck, or, I don't know, maybe bad karma - FOR LYING! .

You're not Michael Jackson, and you haven't really walked on the actual moon - have you. ADMIT IT!!!

Any suggestions for one that can charge laptop/notebooks (w/ proprietary plugs)?

  • Anyone tried one of these? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1pc-USB-4X-AA-Battery-Emergency-P…
Looks like you stick in 4 x AA batteries to charge phones.

    • Those where the 'old skool' battery packs before powerbanks came along.

The one you posted doesn't state power specs, so I'll assume its 0.5mAh charging current, same as USB. Abit slow by todays standards. Good if you only plug in a device (no urgent need) to charge slowly or overnight.

  • 5000 mah at most ~~ but at $10 this isn't that bad a deal .. how long will it last though :)

  • so how do you take part in the "Buy one Get one FREE - BuyinCoins 5th Anniversary SALE 2" ???
