Discontinued model, but excellent for the price.

    • +8

errr… this is 13" Retina Display model?
It hasn't even been a year since its release I believe…

There's no new MacBook Pro apart from MacBook Air and Mac Pro since the last Apple Keynote

      • +11

tantryl is correct. This is the discontinued "Late 2012" model; new model "Early 2013" 13" rMBPs with very minor speed bumps (and lower prices) were released in February.

        • +51

Really? I didn't know that. Apologies to tantryl.
I thought I kept pretty up to date with Macs for a PC guy

          cheers electronictomato

        • +51

Love this polite behaviour! Doesn't happen very often around here.

        • Must be something in the water…

        • +1

          must be the chobani yoghurts

        • -8

bro I read your comment stoned and felt a bit warm inside LOL. No homo

        • We need a show like "Mac eye for a PC guy"

        • +2

This surprisingly attracted more + votes than anything else i've done on OZbargain….

        • the apology was unnecessary, kazines didnt insult anyone.

        • Well, technically, you can get this model new from Apple as a CTO on the 128GB model (it costs the same as the 2.6GHz 256GB model), so both tantryl and kazines are correct…

    • +2

I got two negative votes for this comment that's true and pretty much everyone agrees with. Good ole OzBargain.

  • Good deal, almost same price as air for better spec… for those not willing to wait for the Haswell version due probably next month… but then will wait for prices to drop to that level

  • Rep…can we get free shipping :D…will make an awesome Oz Special Deal from Megabuy

    • Shipping is free.

    • i checked it was free shipping to Melb Metro
but it seems there's surcharge for even Visa and Master cards… as kale mentioned below…

  • +1

2.5% fee for Payal, Visa, MasterCard and 3.75% for Amex.

    • +8

Sellers are not allowed to charge customers extra for using PayPal, they would be breaking the PayPal terms and agreements.

      • +3

on ebay only. Anywhere else no different to cc surcharges.

  • +1

3.75% is a bit rough considering merchant charges are less.

    • +3

To get around this, Paypal accept Amex, so only 2.5% fee.

      • I remember a time when paypal didnt accept AMEX and I was disgruntled by it. I just checked and paypal seems ok with amex now. when did they all get along?

        • +2

          Around 3 months ago…

  • Chance of Price Match with JB ?

    • Assuming they have stock of the superseded model!

  • Jb have the model with only 128 flash for 1478 - they might match that one. lol

  • +2

so for $550 less than the "current" model, you get 0.1 Ghz slower processor, am I right? is that all there difference?

    • -3

and also missing out on the haswell goodness.

      • Newest 13" rMBP is the Feb 2013 one that costs $550 more. It isn't a Haswell model. So far Apple have only released the Haswell Macbook Airs.

      • +1

No, the current retina models do not have the Haswell architecture CPUs. They have not updated their Macbook Pro or their Retina Macbook Pro to this CPU yet.

If you really want a retina macbook now, I'd get this. However, if you are prepared to wait for a few more months, you will get some with Haswell CPUs. Personally, I'd wait it out - the battery life that's being achieved with the help of this CPU is simply amazing!

        • +1

That was exactly my point… everyday I'm wa-i-ting!

        • +2

Shuffling will pass the time better ;)

        • The Haswell Macbook Pros are likely waiting for the USB3 sleep fix.

  • This is a great deal if you were interested in the 128GB model.

  • Very good price, considering the updated model is only a hair faster

  • +1

Maybe Megabuy bought up all the remaining stock of the old MBP 256gb Retina display models lol

  • Ordered one, choose to pay via Transfer as the card/Paypal charges are bit high. I hope order is confirmed and stock is held for people with order nos and payment via Bank Transfers. rep, can you please confirm, dropped you a PM as well. I don't think the payments will credit before EOD Monday for people transferring via Bank Transfer.

    • +1

Send an email to [email protected] with your remittance,

We will make sure anyone paying by bank doesent lose out.

      • Thanks mate…will mail you the details.

      • +1

the email address is wrong. Would you please give the right one?

  • Even cheap for a windows laptop with this spec level!

    • +3

      was i wrong?
im just saying this is a good price.
      calm down fruit lovers.

      • thats what i wanted to see!

  • +1

This is cheap. I bought mine from DS for $1400 when they had 15% deal.

    • same here and it was only a 128GB SSD model :(

  • -8

terrible deal as the mba totally ousts this laptop in battery life at the same price range

    • "Retina" display vs. Dodgy arbitrary sub-FHD resolution

I'd totally go with the Retina display

  • +3

Do not buy anything Megabuy or it's other sites… checkout whirlpool for the 1000's of reasons.

    • That's primarily if you need to claim warranty, apart from that their service is pretty good.

Shouldn't matter here anyways since you can just take it to the Apple Store to claim warranty.

      • +1

Ahmm, no. The problems start if you actually expect to get what you ordered. I ordered stuff that was in stock, and it eventually took 3+ months, 30+ emails, dozens of phone calls for me to get my money back, let alone the stuff I ordered.
Had I ordered with a credit card I think things would have been easier.
        Seriously read whirlpool http://www.google.com.au/search?q=megabuy+site:forums.whirlp…

        • Oh well, I had several satisfactory experiences before; let's hope it goes smoothly this time round as well. *Crosses fingers and waits patiently for it to be delivered

  • Just bought a refurbished 15" one this morning!! Damn it, definitely would have been keen for this instead. Save myself $500.

    • Deleted

  • edit:removed

  • Is applecare worth it?

    • For that price at least worth considering.

    • definitely! the hdd seemed like it failed in my third yr and the genius didnt hesitate to replace it. they even upgraded it coz thye didnt have my spec in stock!

    • No. You have statutory warranty. Just mention it to the genius and they will instantly change their attitudes. (last year at a senate inquiry, many tech companies claimed that statutory warranty in Australia was part of the reason why prices were much higher than the US).

      • +1
        • that is a nice link, however, given it has no formula or guidelines for time, it can work equally adversely against the consumer.

e.g. when the retailer says, your warranty has expired, how do you prove that they are still liable for the remedy of your particular situation?

          Not that easy.

Tech companies claim that statutory warrant in australia pushes prices up, well, i doubt even 1% (total guess here) of consumers would even exercise this right. So really, its a money grab in addition to the warranty extensions. They get you at both ends.

  • -2

I would think you could get much better laptops if you are spending 1.3k…

    • +16

You can, just won't have an Apple logo.

      • +3

I'd love to see a laptop with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 (and the rest of those specs) for lower than $1.3k. I'm being serious. I'd like to have a dedicated Linux laptop.

  • +1

Great deal, paid just over 2k for my retina with same specs in late Oct last year

  • What is the difference between Apple Authorised Reseller and Apple Authorised Seller?

  • I will get it if it's 15 inch. Pass

  • +5

The Macbook Pro Retina is one of the laptop that will really benefit from Haswell better integrated graphics (on top of better battery life)… that's the only reason I'm not buying this one… think the resolution is just too high for the poor HD4000… lots of people reporting sluggishness

  • So tempted by this. How much would my current Macbook Pro be worth on ebay? 13-inch, Early 2011, 4 gig ram, 320 gig HDD, core i5 (2.3Ghz).

    • You could probably get $700-900, depending on how physical good it looks.

      • Upgrade to a much later model for around $500 more? Why not :)

    • Hmm wish i didnt read that!! Was just in the process of ordering :( will give it a miss just to be on the safe side. I had a run in with this sort of company few years back MSY been going to them for years, the problem is when something goes wrong and you have warranty issues they dont want to know you. My wife doesnt allow me to shop at these kind of places any more she reckons Chinese ppl have to worst customer services. Pay a little more get less headaches and run arounds.

    • Very scary… must like to live dangerously to order from them!

  • I would like to pay via paypal. Can you not charge me the handling fee?

  • Can I put my current SSD with windows 8 installed on it in to this?

    • No way bro

    • Nope, doesn't have a standard 2.5" drive like the old Macbook Pros.

  • I've taken the punt… gulp

(I've got my fingers crossed and a copy of the EFT code of practice readily to hand, lest it all goes pear-shaped…)

It'll be a nice upgrade from my late 2010 MacBook Air…

    • Well, the payment's been processed so fingers crossed…

  • Wow. I'm one of those anti Apple dudes and I AM tempted! Great deal

    • What you really have shown is Mac envy.

  • +1

If you remove the credit card fee I'll buy right now!

Won't be able to do the bank transfer for the next few days. Possible to order now and pay on Tuesday?

    Let me know.

  • Very good price for a macbook pro retina. I wonder when the haswell refresh is gonna come out

  • +1

Megafail I will not trust but will apple store willing to handle warranty issue for them?

  • OP, please do a deal on the 15 inch model pls!!!

  • +1

If you remove the credit card fee I'll buy right now!

    • hackle! True OZBarganier!

  • pay via bank transfer :)

  • +5

Banks charge retailers an average of 0.81 per cent of the transaction price to use MasterCard or Visa,
1.88 per cent for Amex and 2.1 per cent for Diners Club.

3.75% ….Profiting from CC fees is not good practise .

    • +2

Don't forget the 2.4% from PayPal. If they have a higher turn-over, it's far lower than that rate.

      • The US and UK don't have these stupid credit card fees.

  • If only this had a delete and insert key. As well as the alt and apple keys swapped around…

  • Hi Rep,

Do you have some left in stock still?

    • Certainly do :)

Theyre selling fast though. we had quite a lot in stock.

  • This model sports an Intel i5 3210M CPU with two cores. CPU Benchmark gives it a score of 3816.
