    Rep, I just want to confirm that I have been to the Apple store and their confirmed that the Apple Care link provided in the post is not valid for Retina models. I have unfortunately ordered one, will I be able to cancel? Would you please confirm if this is in fact the case?

      If you got the info from an Apple Store rep, you'd better go do your own research - like hopping on their own online store. I once heard one of them reply to another you couldn't pair their Bluetooth keyboard to the Apple TV, and that was about two months ago.

      Anyway, AppleCare for laptops go by screen size, so the MD015FE/A (confusingly) is for 13-inch and under, Pro, Air, whatever. The MD013FE/A is for the 15-inch ones. Doesn't matter if they're Retina or not.

        Yep, it is indeed confusing. I found links on the Apple store 2 both $279 and $389 plans which seemingly both cover the 13' Pro with Retina. So i would like some clarification from the Rep in this regard.

        The logic I received from the Apple rep was that Retinas fall into a category of its own.

          If you double check the links for the 13" MBP and the 13" retina MBP they are both the same and have the same part number "MD015FE/A" when you add to cart.

          The part number is the same for the Megabuy website.

    If i bought this using credit card would it still be worth it? how much am i really saving if i were to buy this at say a bricks and mortar store?
    is this the same model as one listed on apple au store?

      With the rather extortionate credit card fee, 2.5% of $1299 is $32.48, making the total price $1331.48. Apple sells the equivalent model for $1849 (it now comes with a marginally faster 2.6GHz processor). You can typically get a 10% discount from Dick Smith/JB etc, making the regular price there $1664.10, so you save about $333.

      BUT, there are Haswell models coming soon, which will bring 802.11ac wireless, PCIe SSDs and newer graphics. However, the falling dollar means that prices will increase, possibly to $2099 for the 256GB model if US prices don't change.

      In short, this is an excellent deal IF the goods are available…

        256 flash storage isnt a 256 SSD ?
        Is this physically the same size dimension as a early 2011 macbook pro 13?
        Is it lighter?

          There's not enough room for a mainstream laptop drive, most space taken up by battery cells. Storage is on a memory module, can't swap with those Samsung SSDs you find on OzB.

      wow.. I ordered and paid for it late Monday arvo via bank deposit.. I received it 4pm today which is Tuesday.. 24 hour for delivery. That is the best service i've had in a long time from an online purchase. I also go emails regularly when the status changed. One improvement would be to notify me of the con number but otherwise I can't complain at all.

      I will definitely be giving MegaBuy a thumbs up in the future.

      Make sure you check if the display if from LG by typing on the command line:

      ioreg -lw0 | grep \”EDID\” | sed “/[^<]*</s///” | xxd -p -r | strings -6

      Model numbers with “LP” indicate LG, but models with Samsung displays have “LSN”

      There's a well know "ghosting" problem with LG Retina displays… not a deal breaker, just be aware of it and bring it back to have the screen changed if the problem occurs…

      Would be good to hear feedback from people who've ordered and have received the item… Everybody is bashing Megabuy… if they are doing it right this time, positive reviews should flow as well…

          I think the Terminal command only works with the 15" models. Happy to be corrected if incorrect.

          I haven't tried on the 13", but I think it should work, I've seen people reporting that the command doesn't work for 2013 models, it should work on this one

          This is definitely the right command, maybe make sure to replace the double quotes by "normal" double quotes, not sure if that's ozbargain comment system that converts the double quotes "" into “”

          Try again, this should be with the correct double quotes:

    So far not a good buying experience. Made payment via NAB on 22/7 so it'll be instantaneous, called them twice to confirm receipt this morning and afternoon and was promised a call back. No surprise it didn't happen.

    Sent another email hoping for a reply but i'm not holding my breath. Won't be looking to buy off this mob again.

    Has anyone bought AppleCare with this and tried to check the status of your serial? I tried and the support site said it cannot validate the date of purchase and that I need to submit proof of purchase. Is this normal? I was hoping to activate my AppleCare but I don't want to in case it doesn't associate properly as the serial is yet to be validated.

    I've got other Apple products and they registered without having to provide Proof of Purchase.

        Just wondering the amount stated is GST inclusive. By law the advertised price must be gst inclusive. Megabuy could be at it again, by not giving you the invoice you could not claim the GST back and Megabuy will not pass it to ATO. They essentially pocketed the 10% GST which is a requirement under Australian law as stated here:

        Do I have to register for GST?

        You must register for GST if both of the following apply to you:
        You are carrying on an enterprise – such as a business, not a hobby
        Your GST turnover meets or exceeds the registration turnover threshold of $75,000 (or $150,000 for non-profit organisations).

          "The documentation you sent, however, is not a valid reseller proof of purchase.

          Please note that , In order to resolve your issue , we need the proof of purchase that includes the following:

          1. Valid Reseller's name.
          2. Date of Purchase.
          3. Product Information with the serial number and the pricing list.
          4. Apple Care information with the Apple Care Agreement number and its price list."

          Megabuy'd better clarify why we didn't get an invoice and why registering the Apple Care is such a hassle if they don't want their reputation to go down the drain again….

          I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at the moment and wait the required 3 business days for the invoice to be generated. I'll be checking every day. I think with a valid invoice this should be sorted out.

          No idea why an invoice wouldn't be generated at the TIME of the sale. This is the first thing i've ever experierenced an online retailer not providing a tax invoice instantaneously.

          Either way, providing a tax invoice is a legal requirement. There are lots of avenues to complain about this (ATO, Fair Trade) if one isn't provided. They are a registered business with an ABN. Doubt they'd want to put that at risk. It's taking it to another level than just plain bad service.

    Has anyone bought by using paypal.
    I bought one last friday, called Megabuy on Monday and Today, and emailed for verification as well on Monday.
    And staff at Megabuy told me today payment is still verifying, very disappointing service as he could not even advise what are they verifying.

    Still waiting for their notification and if still not despatch I will call paypal and cancel my payment, as I am going overseas soon.

        Its our obligation as a Merchant to verify transactions via CC and PayPal, so unfortunately a small % of orders need to be double checked.

        I paid via Paypal and got my payment verified within 3 hours. Item shipped out same day (Monday) and received today morning. Yet to open the Apple box and test it out though as the package is sitting at home :P. Good work Megabuy and Sam for sorting out things quickly.

        Only gripe is like others, I have not yet received a GST Paid Invoice. But I guess we need to keep our cool and wait out 3 Business days before its ready and sent out to us via e-mail or be there in My Account.

    Thanks for the positive feedback guys,

    These units all come out of OUR warehouse, so we have more control than for a deal that is coming out of a supplier warehouse, so it helps.

    I have emailed all the people who emailed me, who asked for first dibs on any notebooks that may be left from non paying orders, so far they should all be right to get one. (ive seen about 5 new orders just come through from them already)

    The Link has been reactivated, so go nuts.. yes, CC payments will clear faster than bank.

    Also any new orders placed may take an extra day or two to deliver as we managed to get a few more units in at that price, we have despatched the overwhelming majority of orders already though. So please keep that in mind.

    There is also a limited number of those Applecares available at 159.
