  • The advertisement in the paper also says you get a free Apple TV with any Mac purchase. Can't see this on the website though http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/17413/image.jpg

WII U Premium and Super Mario Bros U for $398 delivered? Sold.
Still accepting woolies staff card for another $20 off? Hell Yeah.
No click and collect for that item? Damn You Dick Smith.

  • +7

Lots of stuff is "Temporary out of stock" .. see Dick Smith haven't changed at all.

    • I could see that happening… :-(

  • Thanks OP for posting great deal. What do u guys reckon on the cordless phone deals? What about:
    www.dicksmith.com.au/computer-accessories/x-y-laptop-bag-off…

The laptop case says up to 15.4" but the specs state that it could very very easily fit a 15.6”!

    • Is there such a thing as a 15.4"?

      • Yes, 15.4" is the standard size for almost all '15 inch' laptops.

      • +1

Maybe somewhere in the world, but the longest recorded is 13.5" apparently.

      • +3

15.4" was the diagonal measurement of the old style "squarer" format 15" laptops (not sure the exact ratio).
Current range 15" notebooks are generally 16:9 format & 15.6" diagonal.

Whilst you would think 15.6" notebooks will fit into 15.4" bags, this is not always the case due to the different horizontal/vertical ratio.

You will get a much better fit with a 15.6" bag for a 15.6" laptop.

        • Thanks for the tip!

        • -1

          That's what she said

      • -2

You probably haven't seen mine yet then !!

  • -7

Why isn't the unlocked Galaxy S4 10% off? The ad said 10% off unlocked Samsung mobile phones.

    • (Excludes already advertised lines)

      • -1

Yes, I saw that exclusion note. So what is the non advertised price for the S4 at DSE?

  • +1

This looks a good deal: Toshiba L50-A00M for $639.

But of course you would go to our friends at Officeworks and price match for an extra 5% at $607..

    i5-3337U Dual Core Processor
2GB Dedicated Graphics (Nvidia Geforce Gt 740M)
    4GB RAM
    750GB HDD (5400rpm)
    WIN8

    • Hi Guys
Would this be worth the $ upgrade for my son to play Gary's mod and Tekkit on? (or suggestions)
Cooling fan goes off it's nuts and lags with this (incl 8g ram) - http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/N61Ja/#specificatio…

Need to stay with lappy rather than desktop. Cheers!

      • Hey, yeah the gt 740M is a decent graphics card, pretty much double the benchmarks of the Radeon HD5730 graphics card in your asus at the moment (Here's a comparison http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Mobility-Radeon-HD-5730-vs-GeForce-G…)

It should run it fine, 740M can run skyrim in high at ~30fps it should give you some sort of insight on how this performs. Although if your son is going to use the laptop off charge I recommend getting a laptop with a Haswell CPU (much better battery life), although it would cost a bit more.

        • Thanks for that JEEVUS, picked it up yesterday.

"Seems" we can't download an OEM ISO for a clean install unless we know someone or take the risk with a torrent which is a bugger.

Can't find a way to back up the OEM to an external and I don't have any blank DVD's handy.

Just used macrium reflect to back up the main partition to external, things got about 4 hidden ones.

          Currently uninstalling all the bloatware.

  • Anyone know if you can use the dicksmith giftcard online?

    • Yes you can.

  • +3

    Still no option for paypal..

    PASS

    • +1

Took 3 weeks for my last refund through Paypal. Will be interesting to see how long they take to process my current refund for a payment which was made on credit card.

      • Gee what a joke..

Sucks when they have some great deals but you have such problems actually getting them in your hands.

      • You have to consider yourself lucky to get refund in 3 weeks.
During those Panasonic cordless phone fiasco, mine never get refunded. Even after 3 separate call in the space of 6 weeks. Paypal ended up returning my money after I log a claim. In total, 10 weeks for a refund…

    • They used to have PayPal. It was taken away from them.

  • The Nintendo Wii U's were still cheaper at Big W when bigw had their sale on both basic and premium packs.

  • Hi
Just asked local DSE to hold Philips Soundbar Home Cinema Speaker CSS2123 for $79 but display unit.

    What your guys think?

    • Do you mean of the soundbar or that it is ex display?

I haven't seen that one in use, only the Samsung but unfortunately that was no where near the price of this one.

Ex display could just mean that it was the one out of the box on show or it could have been attached to a tv for demo purposes…….

      • @cynic

        Thanks for kindly reply.

Yes, it is ex display unit but the staff said they hardly played with it and unplugged 90% of the time.

I will go and get it later as still comes with 2.5 years warranty.

I have so many items (junk…..I never needs) bought from DSE that still sealed and unused.

I will exchange them with the sound bar.

        Thanks again.

        Have a nice day

Don't buy anything from these guys unless you are aware of their service. Read people's post on their Facebook page first. I bought stuff online 4 weeks ago and I still haven't received it. No refund or anything.

  • 10% the new macbook airs…finally! Thanks OP

  • Cordless phones look like normal pricing.

  • Hi,
I want to buy a compact camera point and shot, $200-$500. Any recommendation pls? Thanks

  • +9

Take extreme care with these guys. Gone way downhill. No PayPal anymore. Disorganized and messy - expired security certificates on their site. Hell, they even stuffed up their own phone number in the apology email they sent when they stuffed up my last order.
In store can still be great if you have a decent team. Online store is a joke.

    See here:

    • +1

That bad aye. Used to be decent haven't dealt with DSE online in a while tho.

    • +2

They have the worst policies and procedures. They believe they are above the law and won't comply with Consumer Protection Laws and believe they will get away with it. Their Facebook Page says it all.

In store it is decent. When you have to deal with them over the phone or email, you might as well bum slide on sandpaper and shower your wounds in vinegar. It is hell.

      Read the comments;

      • Gee they must have done a real number on you Mapheox, 2nd time you've posted about it

        • Yeah, I hate being lied to and treated like crap. I paid hard earned money for goods and services and for some corporate to take it then tell me I have no rights is just frustrating.

  • Free Apple TV offer only for in-store purchases? Not showing up online ….

  • Just spoke to them and the free Apple TV is in-store only

  • +2

After reading some peoples comments on their facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia) I would highly recommend not buying anything from their online store.

Some peoples complaints are very worrying.

    • +1

thanks for the link, will add another neg review of mine :p

Just picked up MacBook Air 13" with free Apple TV. Cheer cheer OzB!

    • Nice! I'm thinking of the 27 inch i7 iMac +free Apple Tv for <$2k… hard to resist

      • I mean i5…

    • did u buy it at a store to get the free apple tv?

      • Yep.

  • I can see an i5, do they do an i7?

    • sorry Goldberg, i meant i5, my bad

      • All good, looks like you can upgrade though via Apple store.
I reckon they'd price match the i5, pay the i7 upgrade fee, and throw in an Apple TV?

  • +6

15% off cameras? What a load of rubbish. Take the Nikon S3500 for example. On the Dick Smith website it's $118 after 15% off. Funnily enough, JB Hi-fi and Harvey Norman also have it for $118, seem to be Harvey's regular price too.

EDIT: oh look at that, the Good Guys have it too…at $118, what a shock.

  • are these macbook airs the latest haswell processor ones?

  • Unless someone can tell me a better option I'm gunna grab this SAMSUNG 64" Full HD 3D SMART PLASMA TV for $1,697 from Harvey's tomorrow (local OW doesn't stock the big sets) http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tvs/samsung-64-163cm-fhd-3d-smar…

    Specs - http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

Anyone know of something better for the $ ?

Prob also gunna get this L50-A00M for $639 http://www.dicksmith.com.au/laptops-notebooks/toshiba-satell…

    • Prob also gunna get this L50-A00M for $639

But of course you would go to our friends at Officeworks and price match for an extra 5% at $607..?

      • Yea that's the plan actually, don't know why I didn't type it.

More concerned I'm gunna find out there was a better option or deal in a few days time, for both. Always someone that says Aw ya should of told me…. coulda saved ya…

    • The Samsung is great value for that price, go for it

  • +1

Cheapest price I have seen for Mac mini $629
    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/hifi-systems/apple-mac-mini-2-5g…
Would be smoking if could combine with free ATV

    • For those stores that pricematch, would they also give the free Apple TV?

    • I picked up the Mac Mini and free apple tv for $629.
      Awesome deal

  • You guys know if built to order apple mac's are pay on order or pay on collect? Because my gift vouchers haven't arrived yet :( when they get here on Monday, sale would have ended!

    • Special built to orders don't have 10% I already asked.

      • That sux… I'll give my local store a call.

Never mind… Just saw the small asterisk print. Excludes ipads and built to order.

Hope pay on collect is available

  • Noticing a lot of posts/talk about Gift vouchers, is everyone having birthdays or is there some special deal regarding them?
