    Availability:
    Temporarily out of stock

    • I purchased new Sunday even though Website said "temporarily out of stock" on Sat. Carlingford Syd has Display model (staff commented little or no use). So sydney appears to have some stock. suggest if you have been looking for this model a ringaround can save a few hard earned $.

      • Display PVRs in DS just sit on the shelf. Never known 1 to be plugged in. Only issue might be scratches, dust, and being dropped - but attached to security system (have seen PVR dropped when shelf collapsed).

  • Ah bugger this is expired :(

    • Why ? Offer ends 29 July, so it's still got the rest of today…..

    • Que? Still stock at two stores local to me.

    And out of stock…

Got display model from Logan hyperdome late yesterday. Apparently Ipswich also had 3 left.

    • The Ipswich ones were still boxed. I grabbed one.

Bought a Topfield PVR previously & I can honestly say it was the biggest piece of tech junk I ever owned - it couldn't even manage basic functions (fast forward of program etc.) without freezing.
Reading the reviews of this model it appears no better, so I'd suggest looking elsewhere before parting with your cash.
Replaced mine with a refurbished Beyonwiz I got cheap from Catch of the day and it has been faultless in comparison.

    • +2

Nothing wrong with the 7160 whatsoever, not even any "known issues" in the Topfield forums. There is a dud version of the firmware out there, which I suppose could be loaded if you were a bit of a newbie…

Only FTA PVR that comes with season pass capability off the floor. Only FTA PVR that allows users apps to be loaded. Can be used with ICE EPG, but isn't required by any means (unlike Beyonwiz).

    • +2

Certainly not the experience of any Topfield owner I know.
Certainly no PVR (Topfield or even cheapies) I have reviewed has ever had the problems you report.
I notice you don't say which model. What model or otherwise size of hard drive? It did have a HDD??
This is a good quality PVR - a bargain at this price.

    • Not sure what you're on about. I got this exact model for $300+ several years ago (cant remember the exact price) and its been one of the best purchases I've ever made.

  • A noob's question here.

If i were to decide between this and OO's new deal on http://www.oo.com.au/Astone-MP-310DT-Media-Gear-Mul_P140411C…
and not owning a smart TV, Which one would the best buy be?

    • +2

At that price certainly NOT the Astone. I got mine for around $100. Shop around, but be aware that it has quite a few issues with reliability, and there is virtually no manufacturer support at all.
My experience with Topfield on the other hand has been excellent. They are generally regarded as a quality unit with lots of online support.
Read more about the Astone here… http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1763918

Does anyone know if you can upgrade the Topfield's hard drive? 500Gb is not enough for me.

  • But there's no stock (according to the webpage) cant be a bargin if theres no stock!

    • Website was recently changed - can no longer search for anything but Click and Collect store stock.
This is clearance, so not displayed - you need to contact store (they can check other store stock).

Good deal, but as usual Dick Smith have no stock anywhere.
They always do this crap :(.

    • +1

How is that our fault though? It is a clearance model, hence limited stock at a very very good price.

    • This is stock around Brisbane if you call.

  • You have to ring up DSE - there's no stock in sydney CBD, but there is in North Sydney, Burwood, Parramatta

  • There is some stock around ipswich- if you miss out today, it goes back to $197 (still good price)

  • I just bought the last one in stock (display model) at North Sydney, so this location is now out of stock

  • Thank you so much. I've been on the lookout for a PVR since my PC tuners never find stations any more with Windows 8. Rang my local DS (Central Q) and they have 2 so I'm off to get one :)

  • Only downside I can see is the 500GB internal HDD + 1 1TB max external.
[I have a similar price Bauhn (crap Aldi brand, but good model PVR) which has 1TB plus added 3TB & 2TB externals.]
I could live with 500GB internal HDD, but a bit limited for external storage in my applications.
But the other features make this a great buy. Older model with firmware updated.
quality build, quad recording, series record, Mpeg4, 10/100 Ethernet, TAPS, …

  • There was one in bne cbd last week, but not there now.

  • Picked up the last new one from Springvale Vic, this thing flies when changing channels!

When Recording does anyone know if a program goes overtime this will intelligently know about it like Underbelly did last night by 10 minutes?

Thanks for the heads up OP was $699 on first release.

    • +1

no it wont, but you can set a front and rear 'padding' as a default

  • Is this Topfield 7160 better than a Beyonwiz DP2? Are there any major differences?

  • camberwell had two - now only one display model :)

btw good guys has stock to price-match

  • I had the 7160 it was a pretty stable unit however if you jump around too much FF and rewind too quickly it can freeze. I have masterpiece HD and that's even better but the 7160 with quad is a great unit.

As most DSE stores now closed Expiring Deal. (Apologies Perth if not the case.)

For those that did get heres a link to remote control tap - has android app to control / as well as PC - when using remote type is 2 (7100 style):

    Enjoy…

  • excellent device, picked it up for 197 and thought that was a bargain.

    • $197 ends this sunday

  • Mind that the version that i got needs a firmware downgrade to work with the taps. Also note that i havent bothered to dongrade yet as it works pretty well as is..

    • is downgrade needed for autostart taps only or all

      • It wipes taps on boot

  • The website may say out of stock, but that may not be true. I posted a great bargain from Dick Smith and it got removed because the website didn't show it, but the next day there was still on on the shelf at my local store. So, OzB mods decided it wasn't a bargain and removed the post. I had a topfield for years and found it great. I suggest wandering down to the store and having a look. I will.
