Qicklock at 50% off [$4.99] - Pocket-Sized Gadget That Adds a Lock to Your Door

promo2013

We're going travelling soon and we wanted more security to our hotel room or our overnight train cabins. I first saw the Add-A-Lock on Amazon but it was decidedly too expensive and plastic. Then I found this Qicklock which looks like an Australian company which offers a full steel version at a list price already half of the add-a-lock.

Just got it in the mail today, tested it out and seems to work quite well on most locks (except one of my doors that has a bigger lock which probably won't need it anyway). It's got a credit-card sized profile but about 1cm thick when stored in its own pouch so I think it's quite good to travel with. I'm always impressed by these simple but amazeballs effective little inventions. Especially if it's the brainchild of local Aussie geniuses.

But anyway, along with the "Thank you" letter that came in the same envelope was a 50% off promo code for my next purchase which brings it down to just $5!!! So I thought I'd share that with anyone who's either travelling soon or just want to add a lock to their room to block out pestering family members etc or whatever :) Enjoy!

Surely after 500+ orders this guy is going to have fulfilment issues. Also, I hope there is some margin left in it for him with this many orders.

FWIW - I emailed them to ask if they're Aussie owned despite the "Made in China" engraving on the side and here's theeir response overnight:

Yes we are a wholly Australian owned and operated company! I am the sole director and we work from home here in Gympie.
The original lock was designed back in the 1980’s and sold very successfully during its first release.
The project was shelved for a long time because of other business and family obligations, but we decided to have another look at it last year.
We visited China and found a great little family manufacturing company and liked the way they worked and looked after their employees so together with them we came up with this version of the lock.
As I said there are many different designs out there but we like ours because it is so simple, compact and we can offer it at a good price, making security affordable to everyone who wants it!

So there you have it folks! it IS an Aussie family business. How appropriate too, being on "OZ" Bargain :)

Side note, why does it show on website as $11,even after using promo code (that worked ok) then after paying by Paypal and going back to the website, its shows as $9.99?,yes it was $4.99,just unsure why their is a differance?

    cheers

    • EDIT,
It shows as $10 not $11 (typo).

I just found out about how the lock works. It is only useful for one use case though. You need to be inside the room to lock the door and barricade yourself. I thought it is something ingenious that allows the door to be locked from outside. Ie, to prevent someone comes to the room (and mess with your stuff) when you are not actually there!

    • go bunning and change your door knob with key lock

  • Ordered several, might pass em out. Definitely good for doors that don't have locks, or preventing others who have the key from barging in.
