This would seem to be the best deal on a tegra 3 full sized tablet with genuine Australian stock. I would ignore the a500, the a700 is where its at.

    • i don't know.. a poorly supported HD screen could make things worse

      • +1

apparently, according to the cnet reviews, it stutters and can freeze due to unsupported bandwidth a Full HD screen needs

        • +1

yeah some chinese tabs (cube/ainol) have this problem too.. hence why i'm cautious about buying budget HD screen tabs

    • I was able to grab a TF201 for $200 from the recent JB tablet clearance.

  • But at that price…
I have an A500, love it. Updated to 4.1, runs well, no glitches. I use it when I travel and it has excellent expandability and connectivity. Connects easily to an Apple bluetooth keyboard (which is what I use on the 'big' computer at home, so typing is simple) and the full-size USB port takes an el cheapo mouse.
Both prices are pretty good for 32GB units. I wish I needed a new one!

    • 4.1, are you sure? Mine did not get more than 4.0.3.

      • +2

There are CM10/CM10.1 ROMs out there for Iconia A500.

      • The official jelly bean update for Australian stock is already out.

Edit: oops I kept thinking that it's A510 instead of A500. Sorry

The good: The Acer Iconia Tab A700's high-res screen sharpens text and graphics to near-iPad Retina levels. Also, it's comfortable to hold and includes both Micro-HDMI and microSD.

The bad: The base version of the Tegra 3 can't keep up with the high-res display, resulting in frequent hangs and stutters while navigating. The cameras are unimpressive.

The bottom line: The Acer Iconia Tab A700 overreaches with its high-res screen and is ultimately outclassed by tablets that offer better experiences for the money.

    Also this:
With the A700, Acer essentially took its Iconia Tab A510, slapped in a 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution screen and gave it a new name. Unfortunately, Acer failed to compensate for the extra bandwidth a high-res screen requires. The result? Stuttery performance that periodically hangs or (in one case) freezes completely

    Acer Iconia A700 Verdict
The Acer Iconia Tab A700 is a competent tablet that shows off what Android can do well, but in some key respects, it feels like a test run at a top-end tablet rather than the real deal. Its screen is impressive in most respect, but the design and the poor cameras make it feel like it doesn't quite belong at the top of the tree where it has set up shop.

  • Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200

this is making me sit up and take notice

man, i dont need another tablet… i already got 3

    • +1

One more would be better. :-)

      • +5

You NEED one for each limb.

        • +13

          So I would need 5 :)

          @Trojan,That doesn't count

        • +1

          it doesn't type, either

  • I'm not really a fan of tegra3… But the price is better than those Chinese tablets… Should I get it…

    • you and tony should just go to the pub.

      • You and roman should go bowling

    • Acer is Chinese brand too.

      • Well it's Taiwanese, and I am too… So let's not go on that Chinese or not Chinese topic…

      • I think he meant buying the no brand cheap Chinese Tab online. These ones atleast have local warranty.

  • Out of stock,the A700?!

    • wow , that was fast

      • +12

        thank god

    • Still showing in stock for me…

  • Re: Is the Acer A500 getting the new 4.1 jelly bean update ? ‎12-11-2012 04:03 PM

Acer does not plan to update the A500 to Jelly Bean.

  • Just ordered. $210 is cheap enough for me to give it a go. I've been burnt by previous Acers (& China) tablets, so hopefully this one turns out a bit better. The SD card reader seemed like a nice feature. I guess if it turns out to be a little bit crap there will be another tablet for sale on eBay…

  • My A501 runs crap since ics update :(

  • a700?? sold out

  • I want one

  • aww was too late

  • I think A700 is out of stock online, maybe still in stock for some stores? Try to call the stores tomorrow?

  • Ran out already??

  • -5

The thing with Android Tablets which i have found is, random reboots.
I had similar with TF300T, it would randomly reboot.

Just did a search on the web for A700, and it appears this also random reboots.

Maybe I will sit this one out again.

    • +2

Not sure how did you find all Android tablets radomly reboot but your nonsense comment will sure be hidden and so as mine.

  • +4

I am a sucker for a bargain, but this tablet is just crap! not sure if I am having bad luck lately, but my god was this the worst purchase I have ever made. not going to neg the deal as its cheap. But you get what you pay for, save up and buy something else!

    • I am happy with my $100 Ainol. Obviously can't compare it, but maybe I just have lower standards to you.

      • +1

generally people who settle for Ainol (for any price) have lower standards than some

        • +2

Some of us prefer ainol, don't be judging.

        • +1

          Some of us prefer ainol,

not that there's anything wrong with that

  • +1

oh and centrecom would not take it back, so buyer beware!
    you have been warned!

    • +1

Was it crap because you didn't like it or was there a manufacturing fault? I don't think any retailer is obliged to accept returns when you change your mind.

      • +1

it was crap, because the screen was laggy with video, shocking camera and it kept dropping out on the net. Now the staff at centrecom also just would not take it back. If a product is not what is advertised or does not work, they have to take it back. It is Australian consumer law. I do not care how cheap it is.

  • -1

Now it only it was 3G.

  • +1

Be aware that the A700 has a laggy interface due to the high-res screen. From CNET's review:
"The bad: The base version of the Tegra 3 can't keep up with the high-res display, resulting in frequent hangs and stutters while navigating. The cameras are unimpressive."

Guess you get for what you pay for… For this price it's about right.

  • 1200p x4 shame it isn't 2gb..& fluid; otherwise these tabs are getting there.

  • Back in stock online

  • I am pretty happy with current A510. It is quite smooth and screen is fine. For Full HD with same processor grunt and RAM for A700, I understand it might struggle a little bit.
    But still a good price.

  • +1

Just so PPL know the A700 supports Ubuntu Touch OS! https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices
I wonder if you could get a usb cellular device to make it a mobile on ubuntu touch?

  • Sold out at Sunshine.

    • Hey rep, I can't verify my order/credit card. I've sent some emails to websupport but yet to receive a reply. Not sure why I need to (re)verify as I've ordered with it from Centrecom before…

  • Checked my order status to find it has been cancelled.
    Anyone else?

    • I just called about my problem (see above) and was told that my order will be canceled because 'they can't find them'. I guess this means they sold more than they stocked :'(
