What exactly is refurbished, like is it "used", does it have any physical blemishes…etc.?

I don't mind opened boxes…etc. as long as everything is there and it doesn't have any scratches and things like that?

Can anyone comment on whether there is a risk here? I would buy if there isn't.

    • I would also like to know if anybody has had any experiences.

      • Allegedly refurbished items are generally better as they have been fixed and checked by the manufacturer, as they dont want to have to fix it again. I can't say ive had any experiences myself with refurbished goods, but thats what ive heard before on ozbargain (where of course, everyone is an expert). Take this post with a grain of salt!

I do have a tf300t though and its epic :D I love mine.

        • Would you recommend this sort of a set up for a student? How much extra weight does the keyboard dock give it? All up under 1kg?

        • +1

I am a student, the keyboard adds a little more weight but not too much. The tablet can get a little shaky when typing on solid surfaces since the tablet weighs more than the keyboard, and it overbalances, but i got used to that and now just tap softer.
Not sure on the total weight.. But i dont think its too heavy…

I would of preferred a windows tablet though in hindsight as a student, but mostly because i really want multi windows.

If you just want something to take notes, this is good, battery life is amazing (15 hours with dock) but if you want something that can multi window, maybe spend a little more on a windows tablet, and maybe a bluetooth keyboard?

        • Thanks heaps for the reply, sounds like a windows one may be the way to go.

    • I got a refurbished Zenbook via an Ozbaingain post last year… All cables are not in those little plastic bags, but everything was there. It is definitely used, but no scratches and very clean. I was even able to claim dutyfree tax on it, but the MB died on me during Singapore stopover…. Couldnt do anything till i get back home… Rang up the service centre and was told that althought it is less than 30 days old they're not replacing it (because it is refurnished), but instead I have to take it to the local Asus service centre to get it fix (they replaced the mb -2days-and everything ok after that)

It was a cheap buy but not happy with the thing dying on me…. Maybe it was just bad luck… I would buy refurbished again though.

  • Mine from oo.com.au came with no packaging, wrapped heavily in bubble wrap, in a shipping box.

I totally recommend this tablet, amazing options with the small chance will be updated to 4.3, got 4.2.1 I think in July.

weird thing at first was its wider landscape wise, seems smaller than a 9.7 inch but in portrait seems much better for viewing websites.

Battery life is great on eco mode, left it about a week in stand by.

Really happy with it personally, only issue I have had is when not docked would register touches on other side of screen, dock then undock its fine.

plays external hdds, though had to reboot with it plugged in to activate. HDMI out works great, though read is a bug with sound, not checked though.

in any case refurbished looked as new, but ofcourse is a chance of some costmetic issues with a refurb, though never experienced it myself across about 5 refurb devices.

edit: Also other day newegg had refurb red docks only for 60 usd, in case want an extra, though only real benefit would be extra battery.

  • Has anyone tried this for reading comic books and magazines?

    • +2

I have the TF101 (thinking of upgrading to this as the TF101 doesn't do HD for some reason). Reading comics via Comixology is great in tablet form but in laptop form it only renders half a page on the screen due to the landscape view.

For less than legal comics, it will display an entire comic page which is readable.

      • Thanks, mate. Will consider this.

  • thanks, bought anyway. free shipping btw, actually 299.95 with free shipping

  • I bought floor stock from Dick smith for less than this just a month or so ago
Pretty decent travel pad, esp that with the keyboard it has all the functionality of a mini laptop.

  • Thanks bought one.

  • Got mine yesterday, very happy so far - not much in the way of packaging, but no marks or scratches on the unit, and impressed so far by the performance for my light usage.
