Never understood why people think it's a good idea to put lemon in cheesecake. It's just not as good as the same cheesecake without lemon. I guess it's like fruitcake: old-fashioned dishes people ate before food that actually tastes good became widely available.

Some people like hairy legs, some like shaved legs, and some like something inbetween

      i.e. everyone has differing tastes.

Pro tip: 'Breaking news' or 'This just in'. One or the other, never both.

          Good point
" 'Breaking news' or 'This just in'." contains redundancies

"One or the other, never both." - also contains redundancies.

          Oh dear, you went there.

Pro tips aren't really serious internet business but while we're ruining people's day with pedantry, Orpheus' post isn't really a redundancy, just a little more wordy than necessary. And it'd be singular, not plural.

          Thanks though.

        • Australian TV/media is a little more wordy than necessary. I stand by my original post.

Hope this teaches all of us here not to make comments about personal taste, because there are people out there who will neg ( - ) your comment just because they dont agree with your personal views.

      • Ironic..

Lemon cheesecake is the bomb when it's made with a layer of lemon goodness on top

the unfortunate thing is that I find lemon cheesecakes never lemony enough. I want it to punch me in face with 100 citrahertz of lemon power.

but more seriously, wish things had more lemons in them when they say lemon

        • Both lemon and cheesecake are delicious.

Lemon cheesecake is OK, but less delicious than either one.

" It's just not as good as the same cheesecake without lemon. I guess it's like fruitcake: old-fashioned dishes people …. "

That's fine that you don't like lemon cheesecake and you don't like fruitcake. But you seem to have deluded yourself that what you like is some barometer of majority modern tastes.

      • Actually it's not just me.

Both of these foods are in fact declining in popularity over the years, even to casual observation.

How long since you had fruitcake at a wedding? Most wedding cakes are mud cakes these days, because the majority of people prefer that. You can be pedantic and say a tiny minority disagree, but it's not really unreasonable to say "Mudcake tastes better than fruitcake". It's a generalisation, a few people will disagree, but that's pretty obvious.

        • "Actually it's not just me."

I'm sure it's not just you but that doesn't really say anything about the popularity in general terms, nor does the wedding example. Fruit cake is heavier and will upset more people's digestion I expect. Many people may not want to have such issues in a public venue (especially those struggling to fit into their formal clothes for the day) but that doesn't mean that they don't have fruitcake waiting at home.

I think it is unreasonable to say "Mudcake tastes better than fruitcake". It is personal taste and there are plenty of people in both camps as far as I know. Maybe mudcake is more popular but that does not mean it tastes better. How many Big Macs are consumed in a day compared to hamburgers from the local takeaway? Surely you won't argue that Big Macs "taste better" to the majority of people? I expect it is more related to cost, availability, marketing, etc.
